In an exclusive interview with CNN affiliate KTAB this week, Shawn Adkins spoke extensively for the first time since being named a suspect in the disappearance of his girlfriend’s teenage daughter and responded to some of the allegations investigators have made against him.

Hailey Dunn / Shawn Adkins

Adkins, 25, was the last person known to have seen 13-year-old Hailey Dunn on December 27, when he claims she told him she was going to spend the night at a friend’s house. The friend has reportedly said she never saw Hailey that day.

Colorado City, Texas authorities have identified Adkins as their only suspect in the case at this point, citing inconsistencies in his statements and suspicious behavior. In search warrant affidavits, they detailed some of those inconsistencies, but Adkins told KTAB that most of the information contained in those documents is inaccurate.

Adkins explained conflicting reports about whether he quit his job on the morning of December 27 or was fired, saying that he told investigators the truth—that he quit—but he initially told Hailey’s mother Billie Dunn that he was fired to avoid having a fight with her over it.

Asked about cell phone pings suggesting he was in the Colorado City area after leaving work while investigators say he told them he had gone to his mother’s house in Big Spring, he insisted that he was never asked specifically when he went where so those records do not contradict his story.

According to the affidavits, Adkins deleted information about his call history from his phone while police were interviewing him. “That never happened,” he told KTAB.

Adkins also denied making a comment to Hailey’s uncle about how hurting a 13-year-old girl would be like killing a deer. He said the uncle told him he had never told that to authorities. “I love animals,” he said. “I wouldn’t hurt animals either.”

He admitted that he has not been cooperating with investigators since hiring a lawyer because his attorney told him not to talk to them. He called the investigation a “witch hunt” and said that he did not trust the police anymore because “they were just trying to pin it on somebody, which was me.”

In the interview, Adkins told KTAB that he and Hailey got along well and he had no idea why her friends would say she was afraid of him. He denied claims in the affidavits that he admitted to investigators that he threatened Hailey’s life during a domestic dispute with Billie Dunn in February 2010. He acknowledged that he and Billie had a “rocky” relationship and that he threatened her, but he insisted, “I never made any threats toward Hailey.”

He also commented on photos and videos posted online of him and a relative in horror costumes, saying that those were taken for Halloween and he does not dress up like that regularly. He defended his collection of horror movie memorabilia and serial killer articles as no different from hobbies other people have, such as collecting Star Wars memorabilia.

Adkins said that he understands that people want somebody to blame for Hailey’s disappearance but it is unfair for them to continue blaming him, despite him being the last person to see her and having been unable to pass a polygraph test. He told KTAB that “I’m not a monster like some people have made me out to be…I’m just a regular guy and I love my girlfriend, I love Hailey and David, and I would never do anything to hurt her or him.”

When asked why some people the KTAB reporter had spoken to were afraid of retribution by him, Adkins said they were just scared “because of what they heard on Nancy Grace” and nobody has anything to worry about.

Bad weather and low turnout has stalled the search for 13-year-old Hailey Dunn, missing from Colorado City since Dec. 28, but three national search organizations are planning to return this weekend to bring momentum back to the search.
Volunteers from the KlaasKids Foundation of California and the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children of Houston will return and will be joined by Team Amber Rescue of San Diego. Team Amber Rescue formed after the abduction and murder of Amber DuBois in 2009. stogether we will have close to 20 volunteers coming, ssaid Brad Dennis of the KlaasKids Foundation. It has been almost two months since Hailey vanished. The Colorado Middle School student was reported missing by her mother, Billie Jean Dunn, on Dec. 28. Searches will be conducted Saturday and Sunday. Volunteers may sign up from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Civic Center. sare getting things rolling again now that we have some nice weather,sDennis said. Members from the KlaasKids Foundation and the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children helped organize volunteer search efforts three weeks ago. The volunteer search group has been conducting semiweekly searches on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Bill Markunas, a spokesman for the local search group, said volunteers are bringing four-wheelers and horses to hunt for the missing teen. Searchers have combed areas in the nearby community of Dunn, as well as areas in Mitchell, Howard, Scurry and Nolan counties. swould like to invite off-duty law enforcement and anyone trained with search and rescue dogs to show up,sMarkunas said. Markunas asked that any large groups that plan to search call 325-280-0429. The group has set up an account called sSearchsat City National Bank of Colorado City for donations to pay for expenses.

Authorities will not confirm if any evidence was found at the Big Spring landfill.
Tuesday they searched through the trash for clues of Hailey Dunn.
This was the second time the Big Spring landfill was searched, and the fourth landfill investigated as the case nears the two month mark.
Authorities told us they were following up on a lead.
As you mentioned, they did not confirm if anything was found.
This as tensions rise among some volunteer searchers and Hailey's family.
Tuesday, the search group named "Hailey's Angels" gave KTXS a copy of the video they say caused a fight between them and Hailey's mother Billie Dunn.
"It made a certain somebody really upset to see what they didn't want to see," said Mychelle Grissom.
Not prepared for an interview Tuesday, Billie told KTXS off camera, she felt the group was focusing on themselves and not her daughter.
She also wants searchers to look for an alive little girl, and "Hailey's Angels" were only searching "ugly creek beds and fields for a body".
Freda Radcliff, with "Hailey's Angels" said they sometimes search where they don't want to, "It's been two months. I'm hoping we find Hailey alive but we have to search everywhere for her."
Though Monday, Radcliff told us the group was quitting the search, over night they had a change of heart, "We're going to continue on whether we have their backing or not."
Meanwhile, Tuesday Colorado City City Manager Pete Kampfer answered resident's questions about the Hailey Dunn case on a local radio show.
Jim Baum, the owner of the station fired away, "Question called in: is law enforcement working with the organized search parties?"
Kampfer answered, "We like to encourage and thank everyone for searching but at the same time we cant advocate it, because of legal issues." Kampfer goes on to explain that people who trespass or get injured while searching can not hold the city liable.
Baum: "Why have their been no recent updates from law enforcement on Hailey's Case?" Kampfer: "We cant tell you everything we know because we don't want to hurt the ongoing investigation."
Baum: "Do you feel like you're restricted in what you can release from those conducting the investigation?"
Kampfer: "There's definitely a restriction and I purposefully don't know all the details so I can't answer them."
But there are still questions that go un-answered.
Like why, after eight weeks, have there been no major breakthroughs in the 13 year old's case?
And where could Hailey Dunn be?
Though the group "Hailey's Angels" have gone out on their own there will still be other volunteer groups meeting to search at specified times.
The next organized search is this Friday.

A Big Spring landfill came under scrutiny Tuesday as the search continued for missing Colorado City teen Hailey Dunn.

Law enforcement officials are "following up on leads that they have developed over the past month," said Pete Kampfer, Colorado City's city manager and the spokesman for the task force conducting the search for Dunn, 13, who was reported missing Dec. 28.

Over the past seven weeks, officials have conducted searches in landfills in Abilene, Colorado City and Snyder. Cadaver dogs from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice were used at the Colorado City landfill, the Snyder Solid Waste Disposal Facility and the Allied Waste Services landfill in Abilene.

"I'm not sure if they have cadaver dogs, but they do have dogs at the Big Spring landfill," Kampfer said.

The Texas Rangers, investigators from the Mitchell County district attorney's office and members of the Big Spring Police Department were among those taking part in the searches.

Over the weekend, the search for Dunn continued with volunteers from three national missing children's organizations — the KlaasKids Foundation, the Laura Recovery Center for Missing Children and Team Amber Rescue — organizing the effort.

Warm, sunny weather attracted a record number of volunteers from all over the U.S. to assist with the search.

Kampfer said no charges have been filed and no arrests have been made in the case.

Law enforcement has named Shawn Adkins, the former boyfriend of Dunn's mother, Billie Jean Dunn, as a suspect in the case.

With the update on the front page I now have only 2 things to say: torture them till they reveal what they did with Hailey, then shoot them. No doubt in my mind what happened there. I will be overjoyed if she's found alive, and I will apologize for having a evil mind; but I am convinced now one or both killed her and they both covered it up. They are both candidates for a kerosene bath, a scrubbing with steel wool and a painful execution. The bio unit should have a .38 stuck up her vay jayjay, him up the ass; I'll pull the trigger.

Hailey Dunn, 13, has been missing for two months – and now child porn has been found in Billie Dunn’s dresser drawer. According to Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs, child porn, bestiality, and “deviant pornographic images and videos” were found on a memory stick in the master bedroom of Billie Dunn’s home early in January. Another 108,498 files were found on the computer

In one way I can agree because it would save the rest of us from supporting them in prison. In another way, they do not deserve a quick and relatively painless death.

Hmmmm...how about if I use a .22? Take a long time to die from that, plus, we could cover them in fire ants!
I think an electric fence post, introduced in the channel you spek of, and aimed in a direction that hits the spine would be appropriate! Not that I'm against your idea, but I believe they would enjoy that more!

Or...............how about hog tied with razor wire, a hot curling iron shoved up each of their asses, in the desert, under the hot sun on top of a fire ant colony, where we could come back every hour and douse them with lemon juice until they die.

I see no one has posted about Shawn and Billie's little "problem",,,where to begin

http://seamusoriley.blogspot.com/2011/03/adkins-denies-child-pornography.html

In a nutshell, well over 100,000 pieces of various types of porno; including child pornography and bestiality just to mention a few, on a computer at Shawn's mother's house,,,THEN, they found one of those little flash sticks, also chuck full of the same in Billie's bedroom drawer. They deny it's theirs, of course. It's at the Grand Jury now in Texas, if I am understanding correctly, charges are expected to be filed!

here's a little sample of their hobby,

Coming at no surprise to the readers of Statement Analysis, Billie Jean Dunn, mother of missing 13 year old, Hailey Dunn, has been arrested.

Last week, we reported that prior to the Grand Jury convening , we would see significant movement in the case, in particular, surrounding the disappearance, whereas criminal activity attending the involvement of Billie Jean Dunn and Shawn Adkins has been noted.

Thursday, 9:30 p.m.
The Mitchell County District Attorney's Office tells KTAB's Michelle Ashworth that Billie Dunn will face three charges: hindering apprehension of prosecution, possession of dangerous drugs and false report to a police officer.

We're told the drugs in question were prescription drugs without a proper prescription.

Howard County went to the home in an attempt to serve a search warrant of Shawn Adkins' body.

Scurry County is in the process of serving a search warrant for Adkins' grandmother's home in Dunn.
