Laporsha Murray Charged In Death Of 2YO She Had Been Abusing For Months

A woman charged in the death of a 2-year-old child had been abusing the child for months, officials allege.

Laporsha Trishae Murray, 31, has been charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. Both charges are felonies carrying sentences of or up to life in prison.

Authorities contend Murray, a mother of three, is responsible for the 2022 death of her youngest child, age 2, said Washtenaw County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Lou Danner during her arraignment hearing.

The child was found dead June 28, 2022.

Danner said the child was dead for several hours before a relative called police.

The 2-year-old had injuries in multiple stages of healing, blunt force head trauma, bruising to the ribs, injuries to the spine and swelling to the brain, Danner said during the arraignment. There was also evidence the child had not been drinking or eating, he added.

“This child had suffered multiple months of medical neglect and abuse,” Danner said. “…I have not seen a child with abuse to this particular state.”

Murray was arrested on May 30 and arraigned two days later before 14-A1 District Court Magistrate Elisha Fink, according to court records.


“It took so long based on the nature of the case and the ongoing evidence being gathered, but it’s something that’s been worked on ever since the 2-year-old died back in June of 2022,” Jackson told MLive in an email.
