Kalamazoo couple charged for smothering death of 6-month-old girl

6-month-old Faith Roldan was found unresponsive on the morning of Dec. 13, 2023. she later died at the hospital.

Her father, Jose Roldan, admitted to falling asleep with the girl on the couch. When he awoke he found Faith unresponsive between the cushions.

But here is the truth about what happened to bay Faith -

Investigators say video evidence shows the couple drinking large amounts of alcohol in the living room. Jose is reportedly seen lying down to sleep, with Ladesha Powe seated next to his feet while holding Faith. Ladesha is then shown falling asleep when Faith falls and becomes wedged between her father and the couch’s rear cushion, documents say.

That video then shows Jose adjusting position and smothering Faith, who starts kicking and crying until she becomes motionless, according to the affidavit. The mother awakes and looks for the baby prior to giving up and making her way to the bedroom to fall back asleep.

Court officials say Faith’s death was ruled a homicide by mechanical asphyxia.

The parents have been charged with involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse.

and the mom is sleeping sitting down at the feet of the dad and she doesn't hear the baby neither... wakes up looks for baby gives up and goes to bed... nobody checked where the baby normally would sleep? nobody bothers to find the baby?? i wonder how hard and how long and where she "looked" for the baby and heck i even looked for hours to find my cat just to finally find her sleeping in the ceiling because my husband had not fully put the ceiling tile in place, as he wanted to make sure the next day that there were no other leaks, when he repaired a pipe leak on top of washing machine in our basement so low ceiling and a silly cat that could jump high enough to investigate ..

Roldan told officers he had nine or 10 tall boy cans of beer the night before and was intoxicated, as was Powe. He told officers they started drinking around 6 p.m. on Dec. 12, and that he last looked at the clock at 3 a.m. The two had also smoked a joint together that night, he told officers.

Roldan told officers he slept on the couch that night.

Powe told officers she drank about five tall boys of Twisted Tea. She said she had been frustrated with Roldan for watching pornography and decided to drink with him that night in an effort to forget what he had done. She also drank some of his beers, she told police.


“Ladesha advised she does not remember much of the night because she was ‘A lot far gone, wasted maybe, like very, very wasted,’” documents state.

Roldan weighs 300 pounds and is 5 feet, 8 inches, per court documents.

Weird and tragic things seem to occur more frequently in houses with these crazy surveillance set ups.
Guessing this will get plead down to probation or some piddling sentence in county jail.
