Castration Serial Murders, US Serial Killings
Around 7:00 A, M. on June 14, 1982, sheriffs deputies in Wasatch County, Utah, were summoned to the banks of Daniels Creek, where a fly fisherman had reported a grisly discovery. On arrival, they found a mans nude body lying on its back, knees raised, with the genitals severed and missing from the scene. Autopsy results disclosed that the castration had occurred postmortem, and that the victim was shot once in the back of the head with a .38 caliber pistol. On October 11, 1983, the victim was identified from fingerprints as Marty Shiik, age 21, from Truckee, California. He had last been seen alive on June 12, 1982, leaving his mothers home on a hitchhiking trip to Colorado.

Another four years and seven months elapsed before Utah authorities submitted details of Shiiks murder to the FBI National Center for Analysis of Violent Crime, for comparison to other crimes reported from around the country. The marvels of computer science notwithstanding, it was May 1989, nearly seven years after the slaying, when G-men reported back on a strikingly similar case from Pennsylvania. There, six miles north of Williamsburg, another young man had been found on August 19, 1981, nude and emasculated, shot in the back of the head. The Pennsylvania victim was identified as 30 year old Wayne Rifendifer, a North Carolina native with a record of arrests for larceny. Ballistics tests proved that Shiik and Rifendifer had been shot with the same gun.

Authorities suspect the same killer is responsible for the November 1986 murder of 26 year old Jack Andrews, an Oklahoma native with a criminal record, found nude and wrapped in a blanket at a highway rest stop near Litchfield, Connecticut. In addition to the standard missing genitals, Andrews nipples were also cut off and both legs were severed at min thigh. None of the missing parts were found, and the cause of death was not determined in the Litchfield case. Andrews had not been shot.

No progress has been publicly reported on these crimes since 1989, and while investigators theorize about a transient killer, possibly a long haul trucker who preys on hitchhikers, they are no closer to a suspect now, than back in 1981

DEATH OF HITCHHIKER IN UTAH IS LINKED TO A SIMILAR SLAYING IN PENNSYLVANIA
Dec. 9, 1989
The Wasatch County sheriff's office has its first major break in the execution-style slaying of a hitchhiker who was found dead in Daniel's Canyon seven years ago.
His death has been linked to a similar killing in Pennsylvania.Wasatch County Sheriff's Detective Stevan Ridge and agencies in other states are looking for a serial killer who has traveled across the country, killing and sexually mutilating young men.
No suspects have been identified, however.
Marty James Shook, 22, hitchhiked out of Sparks, Nev., on June 12, 1982. Two days later, a fisherman found Shook's body - clad only in socks - dumped in some trees 30 feet from U.S. 40 in Daniel's Canyon 15 miles east of Heber. He had been sexually mutilated.
Last year, Ridge placed the homicide on the FBI's Violent Criminal Apprehension Program (VICAP) list.
Pennsylvania State Police trooper Steve Toboz noticed the entry and began comparing it to one of his cases.
A ballistics test, the results of which were released last month, revealed that the same gun fired the copper-jacketed bullets that killed Shook and Wayne Leigh Rifendifer, 30, Bridgeport, Conn. The gun is a .38-caliber revolver, possibly a Charter Arms brand, Ridge said.
"We got real lucky," Ridge said. "Of course, computers are really starting to pay off in this business."
Rifendifer, a hitchhiker, was found Aug. 19, 1981, in a densely wooded area about six miles from I-80, 15 miles south of Jersey Shore, Penn. He was nude, had been hot in the back of the head and had been sexually mutilated.
"Oddly enough," said Ridge, "our victim and theirs looked an awful lot alike. They both had basically the same build."
The fact the victims were found along well-used truck routes leads detectives to believe the killer is a truck driver or possibly a traveling salesman.
The FBI is piecing together a psychological profile of the suspect.
Detectives are also comparing the Utah and Pennsylvania cases to similar killings in Natrona County, Wyo., northern Connecticut and Georgia.
Ridge said detectives believe the killer started in Pennsylvania then committed the murder in Utah and "then got more strange and started doing more mutilation. It might be that some other kook is doing this too," Ridge said.
In the Wyoming case, which occurred in August 1980, the victim, a 27-year-old man known to hitchhike, was found dead alongside a highway 20 miles southwest of Casper. The man had been shot 10 times with a .38-caliber handgun in the head and torso.
In the Georgia case, which occurred in July 1983, the victim was found with only a swimsuit on and had been shot multiple times. Tests are being conducted on the bullets.
In November 1986, the headless body of a male was found at a Connecticut rest stop that is a known homosexual hangout.
The fact that there have been no new cases since 1986 doesn't mean the killer has stopped, Toboz said.
"He could still be doing it and the bodies just aren't being found. He could be burying them. We were lucky we found our body."

I feel so bad when I read about unsolved cases from the past. I wonder where the killer is now...and how many more died at his hands

I feel so bad when I read about unsolved cases from the past. I wonder where the killer is now...and how many more died at his hands

Or HER hands, maybe?

What was the case in FL where a woman killed men who picked her up hitchhiking? Aileen Wuornos, wasn't it?

Cross country trucker knocking off a hitchhiker from time to time in his travels, would be almost impossible to catch
If this is the case the cops will need some luck on their side on this one

LE believe the guys imprisoned or left the country, still no clue.

Here's a serial castration killer who WAS caught:

2004

"A 39-year-old bicycle mechanic in Rio de Janeiro has confessed to killing 24 boys in a string of castration murders stretching back over a decade.

Brazilian prosecutors said today that Franciso das Chagas made his confession on Tuesday evening after four days of intense police questioning.

If it proves true, it would spell the end to the mystery of who was killing and castrating boys in northeastern Maranhao state at a rate of about three per year since 1991."

" Chagas was arrested on Friday after police uncovered the remains of two young boys buried beneath the dirt floor of his shack on the poor outskirts of Sao Luiz.

One of the bodies belonged to 4-year-old boy who was identified by scraps of clothing he was wearing when he disappeared in February 2003. Police were uncertain about the identity of the second corpse.

After initially denying everything, Chagas, over the weekend, confessed to killing 20 boys between 1991 and last year. Since Monday he confessed to four more killings."
