Final Fantasy XIII Speculation

April 17, 2007 at 7:26 am by

ImageShackBoy, various forums are going a tad crazy with Final Fantasy speculation. 360 owners are especially anxious to know, “Are we included?”. The details are tough to piece together, but what seems to have fired this off is the announcement from Square Enix that there will be SIX versions of Final Fantasy XIII: Fabula Nova Crystalis. There was a slide in the presentation which can be seen after the jump.

On the left you have the eventual product penetration of Final Fantasy VII. They are showing the movies, the spin-offs, the PSP game, the eventual PS2 game, etc. I think they were using this to demonstrate their hopes for FF XIII, and the fact that they are planning the “shotgun” approach from the start.

As you can see on the right, there are two PS3 titles planned, a Mobile (cell-phone) game planned, and THREE other IP’s in faded boxes. When questioned, they did say that other systems will be supported. If FFXIII came to the 360 it would be HUGE for that console.…

Anyone Seen Swivel?

He sent me a link to this video on YouTube of him, and no real explanation of what I’m supposed to do with it.  Very strange. Anyway, I’ll continue posting with his account until I hear back from him. If anyone gets an email or PM from the guy, please let me know.…

These guys are hilarious. Check our their official website. They have been putting out dirty, funny music for awhile, but now they are breaking into the video scene with their new series entitled: Cock Puppets.

Above is episode 1. I’ll be sure to update as they are released, so stay tuned. And be sure to go to their website and listen to a few more songs, especially number 3, “Handcuffed”, where they serenade the women tied up in their trunk and chained to their bed. Touching stuff.  Another video after the jump.

Taking Bets: Girl or Monster?

Of course, there is always the monster’s side of the shit-talking.  I’m sure they will milk this back and forth, and generate as much animosity between the two as they possibly can.

And whoever wins, you can bet your ass there will be a “Girl vs. Monster II:  The Dread Under the Bed”.…

GNotW: Croc Gives Man a Hand

April 16, 2007 at 4:34 pm by

www.testing.com

From the Good News of the Week desk:

Man’s arm is successfully re-attached after it was removed by a crocodile without the man’s permission. The victim, Chang, is a Taiwanese Veterinarian who was attempting to remove a tranquilizer dart from the Croc when the Croc took exception. So, it removed Chang’s hand from his elbow.

Zoo workers fired on the Croc repeatedly, recovered Chang’s hand. Both are back together and are recovering quite nicely. The Crocodile is also in fine spirits. Despite being shot at numerous times, no bullet wounds could be found on the animal after a thorough inspection.

All around, this really qualifies for the GNotW department. Nobody was hurt, and the Crocodile got his five minutes of fame. If you follow the “more” link, there is a short video about this fascinating story. And more can be read about it here.…

VT Update: 33 Dead, Another 20+ Injured

April 16, 2007 at 2:32 pm by

32 are now confirmed dead in this, the worst shooting in United States history. This is all taking place about an hour from my house, and police cars and ambulances have been seen rushing to Blacksburg to fill the void created by this horrible circumstance.

I have heard one report of a student who was in one of the classrooms the gunman entered. He claims that everyone in the room was shot and he fell to the ground and played possum among his dead and horrible wounded classmates. This type of story will be undoubtedly repeated many times over in the following weeks.

The only thing I have heard about the shooter is that he was a 20-something Asian student. It sounds like he was using two 9mm semi-automatic handguns, had a protective vest on, and lots of ammo. The crime was obviously pre-meditated as he also had chains and locks with him that he used to lock the main entrances from within the building. He then went room-to-room trying to get inside and shoot as many people as possible.…

Edward Norton is “The Incredible Hulk”

April 16, 2007 at 1:38 pm by

Christian Bale as Batman, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and now Edward Norton will be taking over the role of Bruce Banner\The Incredible Hulk in the 2008 sequel. This role was formerly played by Eric Bana in the first film adaptation directed by Ang Lee.

Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige stated “Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business. His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the bigscreen in a new and exciting way.”

The sequel is being penned by Zak Penn (X2, X-Men: The Last Stand) and will not be as self-serious, making it more in line with the comic series and TV show. It will go back to the roots of The Hulk and detail the tortured Bruce Banner alluding authorities as he tries to discover a cure for his transformations into the green giant.…

Multiple reports are coming in of a shooting at Virginia Tech University in which 22 people have been fatally shot, one of the dead being the actual shooter. The shooting occurred at West Ambler Johnston residence hall at about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Aimee Kanode, a freshman from Martinsville, told The Associated Press that the shooting happened on the fourth floor of the dorm, one floor above her room.

CNN is reporting that three days before this incident, a bomb threat forced the cancellation of classes in three buildings on Friday. Also, the 100,000-square-foot Torgersen Hall was evacuated April 2 after police received a written bomb threat, The Roanoke Times reported.…

More 360 Woes

April 16, 2007 at 12:23 pm by

[youtube rlQYkaXv8RU video]

It has taken several months, but Microsoft has today finally fessed up to manufacturing problems with XBox 360’s manufactured in late 2006. There has been complaints and speculation online for a few months now, but it is always hard to tell if these problems are real, are just the result of a handful of loud complainers amidst millions of satisfied customers, or the exaggerations of fanboys from the other side. Because of this, it took an independent investigation by Kassa, a Dutch television show, to confirm that this is a manufacturing problem. The Video posted above is from the episode that started it all.…

Prince of Persia: The Movie

April 16, 2007 at 12:01 pm by

ImageShack

The adaptation of the popular game franchise has been in the works for awhile now. Jerry Bruckheimer has been helming the ship, and we now know who the director will be. Uwe Boll.

Okay, just kidding. Actually the long-time partnership of Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer made this one a no-brainer. Coming off of the highly anticipated “Transformers” movie adaptation, work is set to commence on the Prince of Persia film soon. The release date is slated for the Summer of 2009.

Why should anyone be excited about this movie? It is simple: Think Pirates of the Caribbean. Just as Disney used a very loose association with a theme-park ride to serve as the foundation of an original script, so too is the Prince of Persia team using the games as a general guide. The Arabian setting of Prince should make for a gorgeous backdrop for thrilling action scenes, just as the Caribbean worked for “Pirates”.…

Maryland — Peyton Duschl, 2, was severely burned after he went down the slide at an elementary school playground. Seems as if someone had previously broken into the school, stole several bottles of industrial-strength drain cleaner and then proceeded to splash it all over the playground equipment.

Peyton suffered second and third-degree burns, mostly on his legs, from the cleaner which contains a strong concentration of sulfuric acid. He was with is grandmother who heard him screaming immediately after coming down the slide. He was rushed to the pediatric burn unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and was scheduled for surgery Sunday morning.

He will likely will be hospitalized for several weeks, said Carol Duschl, the boy’s mother.

Whoever is responsible probably also suffered burns, and could face charges of first-degree assault, burglary and destruction of property, said Sgt. Vickie Warehime, a county police spokeswoman. A hazardous materials team cleaned up the playground, using tens of thousands of gallons of water.

Update: Two unidentified 16-year-old boys were charged with reckless endangerment and second-degree burglary and released to their parents.…

Resident Evil Umbrella Gameplay for Wii

April 15, 2007 at 2:41 pm by

[gamevideo 10742 video]

I was just complaining to Morbid that the Wii seems destined to suffer the same fate as the Gamecube. Oh, guess what? The Gamecube had a great Resident Evil game as well!

This looks to be a very welcome addition to the Resident Evil saga, and a future member of my Wii library. The only annoyance I’ve ever had with the RE games is the gun control, and I have been dying for a reason to shoot my TV with my WiiMote, ever since WiiPlay teased me with a miniature version of Duck Hunt. Hopefully the recent shots of gun accessories for the Wii mean that we’ll be blasting zombies in realistic fashion quite soon.…

New Mac Ad

April 15, 2007 at 8:49 am by

[youtube 1EbCyibkNB0 video]

I hate Macs. The reasons are simple: monopolistic pricing, and no software. But I love the Mac ads. When I see them flying by as I fast-forward through commercials, I have to stop and see if it is a new one. Well, here is a new one.

I love it. And there is something about the quaint problems that come with a PC that make me love them all the more. I love command-prompts, and juggling conventional memory, and searching the web for .dll files. I love that I know how to make mine work, with its water-cooling and RAID arrays.

That’s why I can love these commercials, and hate Macs at the same time. Imagine trying to sell a vehicle to car-lovers which said things like, “You’ll never have to pop the hood” and “Simple enough for your grandmother to drive”. Yeah.…

Guitar Hero 2 Song-Packs: Rip-Off?

April 15, 2007 at 8:37 am by

Remember the Oblivion “Horse Armor” snafu? Yeah, the first sign that “downloadable content” was going to mean an ass-fucking for the consumer. Well just when you thought that the gaming industry learned that a few bucks aren’t worth the negative PR, RedOctane and Activision are getting heat for the exact same nonsense. With downloadable songs coming in packs of three, so you are forced to buy two songs you hate to play, with every song you enjoy, and priced at a whopping 500 points. Breaking out my “Confusing Points Calculator” and I get just over $2 a song. Or around $90 to download a game you can buy physically for $30.

Let’s just say that the gaming community at-large isn’t too amused. Everyone is commenting on this, as they should. This makes the Imus debacle look meaningless in comparison. A round-up from the regulars:

Joystiq: “is that just the highest possible dollar figure that could be charged without causing people to involuntarily throw up on themselves?” and ” we already know that it’s Microsoft’s hand on the insanity-dispensing Live pricing gun.”

Kotaku: “$6.25 is pretty damn steep for 3 songs.…

Guitar Hero 2 Update is Bricking 360’s

April 15, 2007 at 8:10 am by

ImageShack In case you missed earlier Guitar Hero 2 news, there was a whammy bar problem on two batches of guitars. These two sets of models were not relaying whammy bar input to the hit game for the 360. Some intrepid hackers figured out how to resolve this problem by taking your axe apart, adjusting a mount, and tightening a few screws. RedOctane, however has recently released a patch for this problem which supposedly fixes the whammy bar, but… it is hard to tell if it works or not… because it bricks your 360.

Okay, obviously not all 360’s, but take a look at Microsoft’s official forums at XBox.com. The “Red Ring of Death” has visited more than a few of the members. There is some speculation that the USB port is to blame, but it is nothing but speculation at this point.

Larger issue: One of these guys is waiting on his FOURTH 360 (various causes, not all related to Guitar Hero). I have seen more than a few people who have gone through multiple units.…

Two newlyweds, Mak (Siwat Chotchaicharin) and Nak (Pataratida Pacharawirapong), inadvertently awaken the ghost of Mae Nak (Porntip Papanai), a woman who, 100 years earlier, terrorized her local village after dying and coming back as an extremely vengeful ghost. After dispatching anyone she felt was standing between her and her living husband, Mak, the local religious leaders performed a ceremony that was to keep the ghost of Mae Nak at rest. Now she is awake again and not too happy that she cannot find any peace after death. …

Empire State Building Suicide Jump

April 14, 2007 at 2:34 am by

New York, NY — Moshe Kanovsky, 31, a lawyer, leaped to his death from a 69th-floor office at New York’s Empire State Building, severing a leg that crashed to the sidewalk in front of horrified onlookers. Mr. Kanovsky worked for the law firm Ashok Karmaker. It is being reported that Kanovsky met with a client in one room and jumped from another.

“He was interviewing a client,” said a man who works in the suite. “He just got up, opened the window and jumped.”

Several witnesses called 911 to report that a leg, severed below the knee, was on the ground by the building, bare except for a gray and black sock. The rest of Kanovsky’s body was found intact on a 30th-floor landing.

It wasn’t immediately clear what prompted Kanovsky’s suicide.

At least 30 people have jumped from the Empire State Building since it opened in 1931. Before Kanovsky, Dovid Abramowitz, 21, was the last to die. He leaped from the 66th floor on February 2, 2006, after buying a ticket to the 86th-floor observation deck.…
