According to a criminal complaint, 23-year-old Dakota Canfield is facing charges for endangering the welfare of children and 22-year-old Alexa Kephart is facing charges for involuntary manslaughter after they found their baby had died in their bed.

Troopers say the baby’s death happened in July at a home in Penn Township, Clearfield County.

According to the criminal complaint, Canfield and Kephart were sleeping in the same bed as the 39-day-old baby and her 22-month-old brother.

Investigators say the baby girl was found unconscious and blue when the family woke up in the morning.

Kephart told authorities that she picked the baby up, called 911 and began performing CPR until EMS personnel arrived and took over.

The child was taken to Penn Highlands Dubois Hospital Emergency Room, where she was pronounced dead.

Troopers say that during an interview with the baby’s parents, they learned that the Clearfield County Children and Youth Services had an open case with them that began when the child was born.

A CYS caseworker confirmed that on the day the child was born, Kephart had methamphetamines and amphetamines in her system, according to the complaint.

The caseworker told troopers that another time after that the couple had tested positive for methamphetamines, amphetamines, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol.

Following the baby’s death, the couple was drug tested again, and they both tested positive for methamphetamines and marijuana, according to state police.

Troopers say Canfield admitted that he and Kephart had used methamphetamine and marijuana before and after the birth of the child.

Why are there tons of pictures of her dumbass, a dog, a fish tank and the 22 month old - but none of the new itty bitty - fucking skank. She had one job - stay clean while pregnant - if you use find a safe place for your kids .. from the pictures they look young, uneducated, and poor. Uuugggghhhhhhh..

Most states do not have a law that requires hospitals to test infants and new moms for controlled substances. In Minnesota and North Dakota, a test is required if there are drug-related complications at birth.
In Texas it can be felony endangerment of child.. Hospital reports and tries to get CPS involved before they go home - as to taken possession before released to home environment. Something she said, did, or possibly her drug withdrawal raised red flags..

A Grampian egg donor was sentenced to six months to one year in jail for the death of her infant daughter.

Alexa Lynn Kephart, 23, agreed to plead guilty to felony endangering the welfare of a child and misdemeanor involuntary manslaughter.
Prior to sentencing, Kephart’s mother and grandmother told Judge Paul E. Cherry that she is off drugs and a totally different person now.

Her attorney Mike Worgul said, “She is moving in the right direction at this point” and pointed out that if someone is responsible for the death of a child, that person carries it the rest of his or her life.
Deputy Assistant District Attorney Trudy Lumadue asked Cherry for a 12-month state prison sentence while Worgul argued for house arrest. However, he stated Kephart was ready to accept a period of incarceration.

It was noted that Kephart tested positive last week for heroin, and the sample was sent out for further testing. Worgul defended this saying that Kephart’s drug of choice was methamphetamine, not heroin and this was the first drug test she had failed while out on bail.
After she was tested again Monday, she was only positive for THC, which indicates marijuana use. Kephart reportedly has a medical marijuana card.

Cherry stated that “unfortunately it took the death of a child for you to wake up and stop using drugs.”

Cherry also sentenced Kephart to five years’ concurrent probation. She must complete drug counseling as well as a child nurturing program.
According to the affidavit, the 39-day-old child was found unconscious and blue when the parents woke around 10:14 a.m. on July 1, 2020. She had been sleeping with them in a full-sized bed along with her 22-month-old brother.

She was later pronounced dead at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Both Kephart and the baby’s father, Dakota James Lynn Canfield, 24, were subjected to a drug test that same day and were positive for a variety of drugs.

Records from Clearfield County Children, Youth and Family Services reportedly indicate that when Kephart gave birth, she tested positive for both methamphetamine and amphetamines.

Canfield is awaiting sentence/

That's great - now these two need to make sure this worthless bitch stays on birth control.

Well let's give her a pony and big bag of fentanyl.

Obviously it did not Cherry since the bitch tested positive for heroin.
She needs to complete a tubal ligation not a fucking child nurturing program.

I shake my head EVERY time they say meth and amphetamine . Analysis of amphetamine in urine is confounded because it is a metabolite of methamphetamine and certain medicinal products. Not that I agree with them being on drugs or the bitch continuously fails drug testing but is miraculously sober. I think she needs jail time to contemplate her actions. However, don’t make it sound worse than it is. She has to face the consequences just fucking be transparent in charges.

On Tuesday, Judge Paul Cherry sentenced Dakota James Lynn Canfield, 24, to seven months to two years less one day in jail with five years probation for misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children and recklessly endangering another person, according to court personnel.

In two additional cases, Canfield pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of a controlled substance and in one other case with possession of a controlled substance for which he received concurrent sentences.
