http://www.standard.net/live/news/174387/OGDEN -- A 3-month-old baby is in the hospital with 13 broken bones after her father beat her because of her continued crying, police say.
Police have arrested Benjamin Pearo Willis, 24, after they were contacted by Department of Child and Family Services concerning a child who was at Primary Children's Medical Center with multiple bone fractures, said Lt. Scott Conley.
"The mother of the child transported her to the hospital for medical treatment and because of the medical injuries involved, the hospital notified police," Conley said.
The baby's broken bones include four ribs, a foot, both legs and an arm. Medical examiners said some of the injuries showed signs of healing and occurred up to three weeks ago.
Upon interviewing the mother, police learned she and the father were the only people who had contact with the infant, leading the investigation to focus in on them as possible suspects.
"The father of the child gave inconsistent explanations of the injuries and changed his story further into the interview," Conley said.
At the end of the interview, Willis told police her injuries were a result of him playing rough with her after he had apparently became distraught over her continued crying.
Willis was booked into Weber County Jail and charged with three counts of second-degree felony inflicting a serious physical injury on a child intentionally.
