Valez appeared in Lewis and Clark County Justice Court Monday afternoon.

According to court documents, Valez was in his home when he believed that the woman and another individual had come to his residence in order to remove him.

Documents say that neither individual made any threatening gestures or verbal threats towards Valez.

Police say that Valez admitted that he snapped, retrieved a firearm from his bedroom, and then began shooting at the two people.

The woman was struck by the gunfire. Bullets fired missed the second individual but hit an 8-year-old girl nearby.

The young girl was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to police, no other individuals were injured. The woman is expected to survive. The name of the girl killed has not been released.

Valez has been charged with four felonies, including one count of deliberate homicide, two counts of attempted deliberate homicide and one count of criminal endangerment.

He will make his initial appearance in district court on July 29.

Lewis & Clark County Sheriff/Coroner Leo Dutton has identified 8-year-old Arianna Frankie Louise Valez of Helena as the girl that died on Sunday, July 10, 2022, after being shot at a residence on Orange Avenue.

Arianna is the daughter of Tony Louis Valez, who has been charged with killing her while firing at two other people on Sunday.

Officers were called to the area just after 5 p.m. for a report from a man that told dispatchers he shot at people inside his residence due to those people trying to assault him. A second 911 call was made by another person in the same residence stating that an adult female was shot.

Court documents state that Valez believed that the two people had come to his residence in order to remove him. Documents say that neither person made any threatening gestures or verbal threats towards Valez.

Police say that Valez admitted that he snapped, retrieved a firearm from his bedroom, and began shooting at the two people.

One woman was struck by the gunfire. Bullets missed the second person, but hit Arianna. The young girl was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead at 5:47 p.m.

It's hard to get the full picture without knowing who these two people were who were (according to Valez) trying to "remove" him from his home. And what "documents" show that these people made no threatening gestures?

Were they bill collectors (including the kind that break knee caps)? Bailiffs serving him with papers? Paramedics trying to remove him because he was in full paranoid delerium? Concerned friends or family members?

Given his extreme reaction, his oxygen needs to be turned up a quite a lot ... or, given that he killed his daughter, turned off entirely.

Arianna is my sister. The two people were my mom and Tony's friend/employee. My mom had asked for a divorce weeks prior. Tony did not keep guns in the house the only ones he had were ones he inherited in November 2021 whe. His father died and they were immediately taken to a storage unit by him and my mom. So he would have had to have gone to the storage unit to get the gun at some point. He planned this. He is a disgusting excuse for a human being.

A 66-year-old man in Montana will spend the rest of his days behind bars after admitting to killing his 8-year-old daughter last year, fatally shooting the little girl while trying to kill his longtime partner and their 18-year-old son in a fit of rage last year.
District Court Judge Mike Menahan ordered Tony Louis Valez on Wednesday to serve 100 years in a state correctional facility for the 2022 slaying of young Arianna Frankie Louise Valez, authorities confirmed to Law&Crime.

Valez, who suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, emphysema, diabetes and hepatitis B, appeared for the hearing via Zoom because he requires an oxygen tank, the Independent Record reported. Video posted by the newspaper showed Valez sitting next to his lawyer with tubes out of his nose during the hearing
Valez last month pleaded guilty to a count of deliberate homicide for killing Arianna.
In addition to shooting his daughter, Valez shot his longtime partner and Arianna’s mother, who recovered from her injuries after reportedly doing a stint in the ICU. Valez also tried to shoot his 18-year-old son but missed and accidentally struck Arianna in the back.

In exchange for pleading guilty, prosecutors reportedly dropped two counts of attempted deliberate homicide for Valez shooting at the two adults.
Valez also reportedly addressed the court, apologizing for his actions and saying that “the pain will last a lifetime.”
