A 15-year-old girl and her 11-year-old sister have been arrested in Florida and charged with the murder of their 16-year-old brother, authorities said Tuesday.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office said that {REDACTED], 15, grabbed a handgun from her parents' bedroom and fatally shot her brother, 16, sometime before 10 p.m. Monday in the living room of their home, and that {REDACTED] sister, 11-year-old {REDACTED], helped in the crime.


{REDACTED] was arrested and charged Monday, and her 11-year-old sister was arrested Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff's office said. Both are charged with premeditated murder.

The children's parents, Keith Kornegay, 37 and Misty Kornegay, 33, were out of town at the time, but were later arrested on charges of child neglect for failing to supervise their children. Another three-year-old at the home was taken into custody by the state Department of Children and Families, the sheriff's office said. Both parents remained at the Columbia County Detention Facility on no bond, according to jail records.

Sad, three lives wasted. I do wonder if there was some sort of abuse going on here, and that's why they did it.

Either way it sounds like another case of stellar parenting.
 
They look like they could be the grandchildren of a guy I was in HS with. Same shape of face & nose & eyes.

I agree w/ you @Dutchesse , they weren't doing their job as parents. Just because one of the children is sixteen and is babysitter age doesn't mean they could leave the whole brood alone to care for each other. And with a three-year old!

I don't think this is the first time they were left alone. It sounds like they're team drivers. But these are the years when one parent is better off at home raising the kids. Less money for sure, but kids need parenting.
 
Ignorant ass parents. 16 and 15 are generally old enough to take care of themselves but to up and leave town while you leave all the kids at home, one of which is 3? Nope, I don't like it.

When were they planning on coming back? What about school for the older ones? Who watches the 3 year old during the day while Dad is working and Mom is off riding shotgun?

I need to know more about what that house was like before the shooting. She could have been provoked by her brother, not that it excuses her actions but it would put it all in a different light. I will attempt to reserve judgment on the kids but the parents are selfish assholes.
 
I agree with the others. These children were failed. We don't know what the relationship was like between the children and if it was ever volatile the parents will receive even more scrutiny for leaving them to their own devices.
My kids fight - no matter how responsible my eldest is I cannot imagine leaving her alone for days with her younger brother. It wouldn't be fair to either of them, if anything siblings need to know they can get away from one another when they need to.

Well...all I know is, this is a messed up situation all together.

I was (Mostly) responsible enough to be left alone by myself when I was 14.
Mostly because when I did get the house to myself all I wanted to do was cook my own food, watch movies, read books, have only a select few friends over for movie nights. Whatever.
I was never the "LETS THROW A HUGE PARTY" type. Plus my sister was always there with me and she was pretty much the same way. Same with my brother.

These girls must have had a very bad relationship with their brother :(
It makes me sad. Siblings should never hurt each other, much less kill one another :(

He must have really abused them. Or the 15 y/o was just straight up fucked in the head and her 11y/o sister must just really look up to her... IDK

These parents suck! It must have been known that these siblings were not ok with one another.
That they had some serious issues.
This could have been prevented.

I hope the little one gets a second chance, a new beginning and a better one.

They both seem completely emotionless. This doesn't seem to have affected them negativley in any way.
There seems to be no remorse.

All that's missing is the pit bull that was left to watch over the baby.
Those parents are real pieces of shit for leaving their kids high and dry to fend for themselves while they were out of town. Glad they are being charged and I hope they don't get the 3y/o back!
 
They kept her (the 15 year old) locked in her room for weeks at a time, standard issue bucket & blanket that those dungeons seem to always have. The older brother not only beats her on a regular basis, the so called Mother
“ caught them having sex”?! More likely she walked in on her son raping her daughter! No wonder they look as if they're dead inside.
 
They were caught "having sex" in 2011. She was 11-12 years old. He would've only been a year older.
There is a LOT more to this story.

I went to the fathers FB page. There are others, but his is open. I just kind of feel like some priorities were skewed, I don't know. I don't think you can judge from the page, it's just a feeling.

The older girl knew her parents kept a pistol in their room, but they had locked their door. So the girl went outside and used a knife to remove an air conditioner from her parents' bedroom window. She climbed in while her 11-year-old sister kept watch and grabbed the gun out of a pink bag and loaded it, police said.

The girl went back inside the house, telling her young sisters to get in the closet, she told police. She turned her head and fired at her sleeping brother in the living room, and he screamed "Help! Help!"

She buried her head in a pillow for a while and upon returning to the living room, the girl found her 3-year-old sister trying to wake her dead brother, according to the police report.

She fled with her 11-year-old sister, leaving the 3-year-old behind, police said.

"It's hard for us to get our arms around this act," Columbia County Sheriff Mark Hunter said. "This is the stuff nightmares are made of."

When officers arrived at the home, the 3-year-old said: "he's dead." The brother's body was lying near the fireplace, under a blanket with his head on a pillow.

Police have not released a motive for the shooting.

The girls' mother told police that they often locked the 15-year-old girl up when she misbehaved. The longest they kept her locked in her room was 20 consecutive days, the father told police.

In the girl's room, police found only a blanket and a bucket filled with urine in the closet.

"It was learned that (the 15-year-old girl) has made past attempts at ending her life but neither law enforcement nor (emergency management services) was notified," police wrote in their report.

The girls are in being held in juvenile detention on suspicion of murder, and a prosecutor is trying to decide whether they will be charged as adults. Their parents face charges of child neglect and failing to supervise.

The 3-year-old is in the custody of child welfare officials.

I'm not surprised in the least that boy I'd dead after reading that shit. The fuck. I wanna slap those so called parents til my hand cramps up then kick the shit out of them til my legs stop working. Just beyond infuriating :punch::rage::mad:
 
This is a train wreck of story. I started out thinking she was just a narcissist bitch who threw a tantrum, and by the end my heart goes out to her. And her little sister.
Hopefully they'll charge them as juvies and take into account the mitigating factors here.
 
This is beyond horrific. That poor girl has been victimized by so many in her life. The ones that should be protecting her victimized her terribly. I'm sure she was acting out after being raped by her uncle and sexually abused by her older brother. It seems they blame her. How do you lock a kid in a room for 20 straight days. How do you provide your child with nothing but a blanket and bucket to pee in...in the closet. I'm sure she went thirsty and hungry as well. This girl didn't stand a chance and something like this was bound to happen as a scream for help. I hope both of these girls get help. I hope the 3 yr old is adopted into a nice normal loving family that protects her and keeps her safe. I pray she never has any memories when she gets older...of being left with her dead brother.

Fortunately, three is just young enough that's she's most likely not going to have memories of that particular horror (necessary systems for conscious memories are still developing at three).

The best thing to come out of this obviously long-term horror situation is the three year-old may escape her f-d up family and get a chance at a normal life.

JFC No wonder those girls look so flat in those photos. I'd be probably be dead inside after all that too.
