Yeah it is the narrowing down to what i really need that is messing with me.

All you really need is a good toner, moisturizer, and cleanser. Those three basics will do wonders. I don't really know what brands work well because I only use NuSkin but for a whole face care pk through NuSkin it would be about $115. You can find much cheaper in stores that probably work almost as well.

Anyone have any experience with Arbonne products. I went to a party and really liked one of their facial creams. It felt like an instant face lift. I need to find out just what the hell it was that I tried there. o_O

I've heard this was good stuff but haven't had the chance to try it.

Anybody use any philosophy stuff?

BTW, www.beautypedia.com was free for Jan. & Feb. but I was in there last night - still free! A great resource.

Anyone use any good at home peels? I had one (years ago) by Ellen Lange. Serious chemicals I think but omg my skin looked so good! I think it was 85 bucks for 8 uses. Can't afford that now.

I use philosophy now and then, bought a starter kit the first time i tried it. It's OK, not bad, but i wasn't all that impressed...but it's been awhile so I need a second go at it. I did really like Hope In A Jar , and LOVE their perfumes...."Falling In Love" I think is my fave.

I know the cosmetics cop (at beautypedia) wasn't thrilled with the philosophy line but today I ordered some facial exfoliating stuff. I was telling my mom about it and she got it for me as a gift.
I've been using drugstore brands that beautypedia DID recommend with some success: Roc multicorrexion night treatment and neutrogena's pore refining cream w/ spf. Neutrogena stopped making that cream and it was such good stuff, damn it! Now I've gotta find another moisturizer with spf. I thought I'd try a tinted one as well. I went to beautypedia & checked out the reviews. Hopefully I'll get to the drugstore later this week. I miss the days of being able to buy whatever I wanted at the department store counters but I like the idea of getting something maybe just as good at drugstore prices!

oh, ROC has real good research behind their products, tried it and love their stuff. gosh, I SO miss the days having actual allocated monies to buy girly stuff...those days are gone! at least for now.

Maybe you shouldn't have got me started on this girly stuff - I love it! It's been a while since I've taken a real interest in makeup; no money plus no social life = I've just been dealing with what I had & not wearing it very often anyway. But this birthday has kicked my butt so I bought some concealer & tinted moisturizer. I used beautypedia's reviews to help me pick Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Double Face Perfector. This stuff isn't bad esp. considering how cheap it is. All Maybelline at my local Rite Aid is on sale this week 40% off so it ended up being just over 5 bucks. There's a brush liquid concealer on one end with pretty good coverage and a liquid highlighter on the other end. I've worn it all day today (around eyes and blemish coverage) and it's wearing well. So, good deal. The tinted moisturizer I chose is Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Enhancer spf 20. It looked kinda dark in the bottle but went on very smoothly and the color was fine. My skin feels good; I don't feel like I'm wearing makeup. Not bad.

I use the eracer one instant rewind, love it BUT might be too moisturizing for our weather here in the summer with all the humidity. Neutrogena's always been a pleaser for me since way back, i'll have to try the tint, i love that for the summer w/ high spf and also for everyday wear.

So last night me and Kiki got in a pillow fight and that bitch hit me upside the head so i tackled her, but then i felt bad so it ended up just being a kissing fight. Lol!!!!

(better harley?)

Got my eyebrows did today and am now noticing she didn't get all the goo off.... I don't want to use alcohol.. any ideas?

Kitty any oil will get off the goo...baby oil, etc.
And IMO that Hope In A Jar smells like shit. Really....actually...it smells like vomit. I have used it....cant say whether it works or not seeing as there was no way in hell I could put vomit on my face (more than once). Though it IS one of Oprah's most favorite things or whatever...if anyone wants to try it ask Philosophy counter for a sample they usually have them.
They have a microdelivery peel that is pretty good. It gets nice and warm and gives your skin a healthy glow. Smells orangey.

I have super dry skin-- and I generally do my own mask with plain old honey and hot water.... leaves you all glowy and it smells nice-- also not bad when you accidentally lick your lips..

Ugh...honestly I would kill for dry skin....mine is oily. I also tend to get those tiny milia right above the cheekbones...they drive me crazy. I have even been to a dermatologist. He was useless. They aren't big enough to even pop out. (ugh) Anyone know of any remedies? NON-prescription? Like, whats everyone favorite exfoliator?

Honey works for oily too, apply & let it sit 10 minutes or so, rinse with hot water and follow with a cold water rinse to close your pores, follow with a light astringant like witch hazel...

For exfoliating, I use http://www.makeupalley.com/product/showreview.asp/ItemId=54907/Pore_Perfect_Pore_Unclogging_Scrub/Biore/Scrubs

I don't remember it smelling like shit or vomit, lmao, but i do remember the reason i stopped using it was 'cause of the smell, turned me off and I'm real smell sensitive. I'll have try the microdelivery peel.

I think it was OMalley that mentioned Paula's Choice, skincare/makeup. I read her book Don't Go To the Makeup Counter Without Me, years ago...a major eye opener. Her line is backed by excellent research and doesn't break the pocket book....and you do get REAL results, IMO, one of the best lines you can invest in.

Kitty, PC's moisturizer choice that is newer part of her line called Resist, the product called RESIST Barrier Repair Moisturizer...is awesome, love, love, love.
totallytoddler, she has a new product called SHINE STOPPER...she's promoting it right now on the site, and when you order products you get free samples. Oh, and as for exfoliators she carries both AHA/BHA exfoliants with the high levels required to get real results....but if you like a delivery system that is a scrub instead not sure if she carries one as the aha/bha works far better. But you can try one from the, Say Yes To Carrot's line, organic/natural line you can find at Target....love their scrub.

Ugh at you all; I am jealous. I wish I could just watch you look and pick out make-up products. I can apply make-up really well; I know nothing about the products. Couldn't afford it when I was younger, so almost everything was self made and now that I can afford it somewhat, I have no clue what to get. This is me shopping for make-up things (no clue what a toner does BTW): Hit Mac counter, Christian Dior, Urban Decay, Nars, Bobbi Brown and Estee Lauder - leave with an abnormal amount of things to clean face with, tone with, exfoliate (and other magical things that go beyond my ability)....do not use any of it (because that would require some type of commitment), throw out after a few years and feel stupid for buying it in the first place or wait until someone visits, raids my make-up shelf and they take what they want home. Yeah...I'm sophisticated.

I'm definitely gonna try Paula's choice.

Do any of you use tanner? I am addicted coming from the beach and then moving to the damn moutains.... I foudn a realllllly great tanner that I am obsessed with and it's somewhat affordable.

Oh and do any of you use anything for scar removal or less-appearance scar stuff? lol I don't know how to word it. I have used Merderma and it didn't work for me as I wear make up everyday, all day. Merderma requires 3 x usage per day on cleaned, washed face. I have tried Bio Oil too and nada.. I have scars that I cannot stand, one in particular. Plastic surgeon said it would stretch over time and be hardly noticeable... it's still noticeable! And in the worst spot ever. Any suggestions?

From a chick who doesn't really "do" make-up: my friends swear by L'Oreal self-tanner. Affordable, tans gradually and not orangey at all. I will find the name and post.

For scars - I am told strivectin works wonders.

Ok so what 'felt' like goo was actually booboos.. when the redness went down last night, it looks like she did my brows with a cheese grater.

Hey, wake up thread!

Dry hair help, anyone? Been wanting to dye my hair lately, but the damn stuff already feels like straw in the summer heat. My stylist tells me it will almost always feel like that because it's curlier, too (unless I get their ridiculously overpriced, reoccurring "treatment", of course)...but there's gotta be some that will make it nice. Home remedies would be helpful, too. Money is pretty tight around here right now:/

Too bad I could take all the extra oil in my skin and transfer it to making my hair nicer:p

My mom was a beautician for over 20 years. When ever my Hair was real dried out she would buy this...http://www.amazon.com/Queen-Helene-Cholesterol-Cream-oz/dp/B00112TIE0 ... I would first put it in my hair and wrap a shopping bag around my hair. Then I would take a hair dryer to heat it up. I usually would do it for a least 30 minutes. I would do this once a week. Plus I would use it as my regular conditioner until I was happy with my hair again. Works like a charm for me every time.

That stuff Mommyof2 recommended isn't a bad price at all. I've tried something similar with olive oil, plastic wrap, and a hair dryer but it was a nasty mess to get out, I would go with the Queen Helene stuff instead.

Also, how often are you washing your hair? My hairdresser recommends only washing 3 times a week, max. Washing too often dries out your hair. My ends aren't dry anymore and shampoo/conditioner lasts a lot longer, which is a big bonus if you're using the expensive salon stuff.

Did we already talk about dark circles and dry skin under the eyes? I can't remember. Skin under my eyes has looked like a wreck ever since the Incident of Unfortunateness a couple of years back.

The skin is very very dry so concealer looks like nuclear fallout on me. Any suggestions for products that will actually reduce the darkness rather than try to cover it up?

I like Garnier Fructis. They have some wonderful products. Also Infusium 23 has a great line. Both are very reasonable.

I don't have a terrible problem but i have noticed more last couple years (do to bs and stress), so I tried a couple products recently that I like and don't cost a tit and a half.
Garnier eye roller concealer....The Aveeno is the one i'm trying out now but think I got better results from the Garnier.

The Garnier Fructis anti frizz serum and Frizz Eez is good. It makes it look healthy, and the more you use it the more it really does look AND feel healthier and nourished. Careful though, you only need a little. Too much and you will look like a grease monkey!

Personally, I like Biosilk oil... mid-priced but a little bit goes a long way.
