David AbbottGAINESVILLE, VA – a 39-year-old police detective saved some taxpayer money after he killed himself before being charged with having inappropriate contact with two young teens.

David Abbott was a Manassas City detective who served on the Northern Virginia-Washington, D.C. Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

According to reports, police had been investigating relationships he had with two teen boys he met while a Prince William youth hockey coach.

Police say Abbott solicited sex acts from one boy, who was 11-years-old when they met, over the phone, by text and through social media and email. Police would then learn of a second victim, a 13-year-old boy.

When officers arrived at Abbott’s home to charge him with two counts of taking indecent liberties and two counts of using a communications device to solicit sexual offenses, Abbott refused to come out of the house.

As detectives spoke with Abbott, he pulled out a gun and fatally shot himself.

If Abbott’s name sounds familiar, he made the news last year as the lead detective in a case involving a 17-year-old teen who was sentenced for sending explicit texts to his 15-year-old girlfriend.…

Josefina SolisPRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, VA – Josefina Solis will spend six months in jail after she allowed fleas to kill her dog.

Prince George Animal Control reported to the Country Aire mobile home park in September, after a concerned resident called about Solis’ dog that had been outside crying for almost eight hours.

The neighbor, Amanda Hios, said that when she went to check on the adult dog named Golden, she could see that he was totally covered in fleas.

When the reporting Animal Control officer checked on Golden, she found a dog that was in serious trouble and was immediately covered in fleas herself while trying to help the dog.

“The dog was completely unresponsive. He was breathing shallowly. She could see the dog was in dire straights,” said Prince George County Animal Control supervisor Job Greene. “She picked the dog up, wrapped it in a blanket and drove him to Disputanta Animal Hospital immediately.”

Sadly, Golden would die on the way to the hospital.

It was later ruled that the dog died of anemia.…

Rachel HutsonCHESAPEAKE, VA – A judge has sentenced 21-year-old Rachel Hutson to 15 years in prison for fatally shooting her mother with a shotgun then sending a picture of her corpse to her father.

In November of 2013, Hutson aimed a shotgun at her 58-year-old mother, Susan Hutson, and threatened to shoot her.

Susan, who was dying of congestive heart failure and other illnesses, thought her daughter was playing a sick joke and told her she was going to tell her father when he got home.

Unfazed, Rachel pulled the trigger and killed her mother, who she’d cared for for years. Afterwards, Rachel called her father, who was out shopping, and told him what she’d done. He didn’t believe her so he hung up the phone.

To prove she wasn’t joking, Rachel used her phone to take a picture of her dead mother then texted it to her dad.

“That’s when I realized this is probably real,” he said in court, adding that it was 90 minutes before he was able to call 911 because he was on the phone trying to stop his daughter from killing herself.…

Alison ParkerMONETA, VA – Local CBS news station WDBJ reporter Alison Parker and cameraman Adam Ward have died after being shot to death during a live broadcast.

Alison Parker, 24, was in the middle of an interview with Smith Mountain Lake Chamber Director Vicki Gardner at around 6:45 a.m. when a man walked up and fired about eight shots at Parker and her cameraman, 27-year-old Adam Ward.

You can see Parker reacting and screaming during these shots as the camera falls to the ground and captures a man in black pointing a handgun at Ward. The segment quickly cuts back to the news room to a very shocked anchor.

WDBJ’s general manager Jeff Marks would come on the air later to confirm that both Parker and Smith had been shot to death.

“We do not know the motive. We do not know who the killer is,” Marks said. “We do know that Franklin County sheriff… they are working very diligently to track down both the motive and the person responsible for this terrible crime against two fine journalists.”

The Franklin County Sheriff Department is saying that three people had been shot in the incident, so I am assuming Vicki Gardner was shot and is currently alive.…

Logan Hunter QuesenberryPULASKI, VA — Logan Quesenberry was sentenced to 12 years behind bars after pleading guilty to severely burning a 1-year-old boy she was babysitting.

Back in January, Quesenberry was babysitting Koda Chrisely while his mother went out job hunting. The mother knew Quesenberry since middle school and had let her babysit her children multiple times in the past with no issues.

That all changed on Jan. 17 when she tried to pick up her son and Quesenberry would not answer the door. Over the next 72 hours, the mother tried getting her son while Quesenberry made excuses as to why that wasn’t possible but assured her that Koda was fine.

Koda’s mother finally told Quesenberry that she was calling police if she did not get her son back, and that did the trick. But once the woman was reunited with her son, she discovered he was suffering from severe second- and third-degree burns on his left arm. He also had what appeared to be cigarette burns on his abdomen, behind his ears, nose and other areas.…

Tonya SlatonHAMPTON, VA – Police have arrested 44-year-old Tonya Slaton after the remains of her son, missing since 2004, were found in the trunk of her car.

Slaton was pulled over by a state trooper on the morning of June 6 for driving her Ford Mustang on expired tags. When the trooper asked Slaton about a large white spot on the floor behind the driver’s seat, Slaton explained it was from bleach.

The trooper asked Slaton if she had anything in the trunk of her car, she claimed she only had clothes in her trunk. When the trooper decided to look for himself, he reported the smell of rotted flesh as soon as the trunk was opened.

The source of the smell was the corpse of Slaton’s biological son, Quincy Jamar Davis, who has been missing since 2004. His body was in two plastic bags wrapped in duct tape. The boy has not been seen since 2004 when he was in seventh-grade at Virginia Beach Middle School.

Slaton never filed a missing person report, and it doesn’t seem as the kid had anyone who cared enough about him to notify authorities that he had simply disappeared.…

Laquanda NewbyHenrico County, VA — This is Laquanda Newby. She is a slow learner. This woman showed up at the courthouse to answer to accusations of leaving her child in a hot car last month, and left her children sitting in the car in the parking lot.

Just last month, the 25-year-old mother was accused of leaving her children, ages six and one, in the car while she shopped at Sam’s Club. Because the responding officer did not actually witness the alleged crime, a warrant was sworn and Newby was informed that she must turn herself in at some point.

Newby turned herself in Monday. And left her kids sitting in the car. Again. At the courthouse.

It is unknown exactly how long the children were in the car, but surveillance video apparently shows it had been for more than an hour. The temperature hit 90 that day, and the windows were rolled up, but police say the kids seemed to be ok — just sweaty and hot. They were hydrated, fed, and released to their father.…

Sarah SchrockMECHANICSVILLE, VA – Sarah Schrock was arrested last week after the 56-year-old was accused of putting dead skin shavings from her feet into milk she served to family members.

Last week, Jessica Hurry and Allison Depriest showed up to Schrock’s home for dinner and were served milk to drink. Depriest suddenly began choking and coughed up what looked like dead human skin.

Hurry also began gagging, and a witness found dead skin shavings in the milk after pouring it into a strainer, according to court papers filed by St. Mary’s sheriff’s deputy Jaime Davis.

Police were called and Hurry would tell them she believed the dead skin was placed in the milk by Schrock. She said Schrock has dry feet because of diabetes, and that she “has trays in her room with the same kind of dead skin shavings that had come off of her feet.”

Shrock was jailed on Wednesday on a food contamination charge and for failure to comply with a peace order that ordered she have no contact with Hurry.…

Alexis BreedenSPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA – A teen mom in Virginia is facing child abuse charges after a picture of her 14-month-old son hanging from a hook was posted on Facebook.

The picture shows the son of 18-year-old Alexis Breeden suspended in the air from a door frame, hanging by his t-shirt that had been attached to a plant hook. The shirt is tight around his neck and the boy is obviously not to happy about the situation.

Some people were so disturbed by the picture that they shared it on the Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page hoping that they would investigate. They did, and ended up identifying Breeden, who turned herself in after a felony warrant was issued for her arrest. She’s currently facing a felony child abuse charge.

Breeden recently pleaded guilty to an assault and battery charge against a family member and was ordered by a judge to complete anger management courses and undergo a mental health evaluation.

As you can imagine, a lot of people have chimed in to criticize Breeden, and she later posted a response to those people that read:

“The cops came to my house twice last night and saw that he was fine.…

Barry JerniganCHESTERFIELD, VA – Police say 35-year-old Barry Jernigan fatally shot his wife and two kids before killing himself Sunday evening.

Police were first alerted to the family’s home after Barry’s boss called to report that Barry had left him a message “that sounded threatening and possibly suicidal in nature.” Officers heard gunshots as they approached the home, but it was already too late.

Barry’s wife, 30-year-old Renotta Jernigan, and stepdaughter, 9-year-old Alexis Kellas, had both collapsed in the front yard after being shot. Neighbors who’d heard the gunfire were providing first aid to the victims, but Renotta would die on the scene while Alexis would die later at the hospital.

Inside the home, police would find 2-year-old Seth Jernigan had been shot to death as he lay in his crib. As for Barry, he was also found in the home, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. “At this point, the investigation indicates that Barry Jernigan shot his son, stepdaughter and wife before turning the gun on himself,” police said in a statement.…

Vincent ParkerNORFOLK, VA — Vincent Parker, 16, has pleaded guilty to brutally murdering his parents with a crowbar after they took away his iPod.

Parker was charged with two counts of murder after his parents, 55-year-old Wayne Parker and 57-year-old Carol Parker, were found murdered in their home on Dec. 19, 2013. He was scheduled to stand trial this week, but pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder on Wednesday.

On the day of the murders, Wayne Parker called 911 to report he and his wife had been attacked by their son.  When emergency crews arrived, they found Carol dead upstairs.  Wayne was taken to the hospital where he would later die.

Parker would later admit that he’d been angry with his dad and the two had argued over his iPod being taken away as a form of punishment. So the honor-roll student at Norview High School with no criminal history left school early and drove home while his father was at work.

He said he sprayed his mother with pepper-spray before stabbing her in the eye and beating her with a crowbar and a baseball bat “until she stopped breathing.” A medical examiner later identified 25 separate smashes and stabs to Carol’s neck, face and head.…

heroRichmond, VA – A 9-year-old boy was killed while trying to stop a teenager from raping his 11-year-old sister.

According to reports, the siblings were playing near some railroad tracks behind their home Thursday afternoon when they were approached by the teen who suddenly attacked the girl.

The boy tried to stop the teen from raping his sister, but was beaten to death. “From what I understand, the sister was raped and (the brother) tried to save her,” the children’s aunt, Jacqueline Smith. “And he was hit in the head with a brick and killed.”

Police were called to the scene after the girl was spotted running from the woods naked and bleeding. She initially told police that the person responsible for the rape and murder was a white man with scraggly hair. Police would later reveal the suspect was a teenage black male who threatened the victim into giving false information.

Richmond Police later reported they have a warrant out for the teen who is currently being evaluated at the Tucker Pavilion at Chippenham Medical Center.…
