BURLINGTON, NJ – Police have arrested a woman after she threw a 5-year-old girl in front of an approaching train.

The incident happened Friday night after a bus driver called police to report a suspicious woman at the New Jersey Transit platform.

When officers approached the woman, identified as 20-year-old Autumn Matacchiera, she grabbed a random 5-year-old girl who had been standing nearby with her mother.

Matacchiera then gave the girl the ol’ heave-ho, tossing her onto the tracks as a train approached.

Luckily, police were able to get in front of the train to signal it to stop as the boyfriend of the girl’s mother got the girl to safety.

The girl was taken to the hospital to treat a facial cut and some bruising, while Matacchiera was taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Once she is released, she will be taken to jail on an attempted murder charge.…

Roquel BainLOUISVILLE, KY – Roquel Bain was killed after being stuck by a train while investigating the mythical Pope Lick Monster – a half-man, half-goat creature that tricks people into getting hit by a train.

Bain, 26, and her boyfriend came to Louisville from Dayton, Ohio on Saturday to take part in a paranormal tour scheduled from 10 p.m. to midnight. Before the tour started, the couple decided to investigate the Pope Lick Monster.

The creature reportedly lives under the Pope Lick train trestle and lures people to their deaths by having them walk on the trestle, which stands 80 to 100 feet high, and get hit by an oncoming train.

As the couple were walking along the trestle, a Norfolk Southern train came barreling towards them at around 30 mph. Realizing they did not have time to run for safety, the couple decided to hang from the sides of trestle until the train passed.

The train’s engineer sounded his horn and put on the brakes, but it would be too late for Bain who, unlike her boyfriend, was unable to clear the tracks in time. …

Bradley BarngroverMORGANTOWN, IN – Bradley Barngrover was killed after his truck stalled on some railroad tracks and was struck by an oncoming train.

Barngrover, 32, was with his 9-year-old son driving to purchase Barngrover’s “dream truck” when his current truck stalled on the train tracks. After getting himself and his son out of the truck, the train hit the vehicle.

According to eyewitnesses, the force of the collision caused Barngrover’s truck to smash into him. Barngrover was rushed to Indiana University Health Morgan Hospital where he would die from his injuries.

His son was taken to the hospital where he was treated for pain, but I’m guessing the bulk of the damage that kid will suffer from isn’t the physical kind.

A GoFundMe page has been setup to help Barngrover’s wife and three children with funeral and medical costs. The couple dated for 12 years but just got married last year.

“I still keep hoping to wake up and have my sweet husband laying next to me like he was supposed to for the rest of my life.…

Mary and Earl MyattVerona, NY – Earl and Mary Myatt killed themselves in a joint suicide by stepping in front of a freight train moments after calling their son to apologize.

The couple, who were both 59-years-old, were dealing with Mary’s failing health after she suffered a brain aneurysm earlier this year. She’d already spent a month in intensive care and has underwent several surgeries. The most recent procedure was performed two weeks ago.

Earl had altered his work schedule so he could spend more time with his wife, who was in constant pain and left with the motor functions and abilities of a toddler.

Their son said Mary just wasn’t the same person she’d been before the aneurysm, often losing her train of thought and not understanding what was happening around her. His father had become depressed and missed his wife. “She was his world,” Brad Myatt said.

Brad said his father called him and put Mary Myatt on the phone. Brad said he couldn’t understand what his mother said, but Earl got on the phone and apologized for what was about to happen.…

Jenna BettiMartinez, CA – I can not imagine what the friends and family of 14-year-old Jenna Betti are going through today after the teen was struck and killed by a train while trying to retrieve a cell phone she’d dropped on the tracks.

According to the girl’s mother, Jenna had been sitting on the tracks with her boyfriend Sunday afternoon when a train approached. Her boyfriend jumped off on one side of the tracks, Jenna on the other.

‘Today my beautiful daughter kissed us goodbye. She was tragically killed today by a train,” Jenna’s mother wrote on Facebook. “She was sitting on the train tracks with her boyfriend… Why they made such a horrible decision we’ll never know.”

Jenna’s second horrible decision was apparently going back to retrieve her cell phone she’d dropped when she jumped off the tracks. “She didn’t judge the approach, and the train creates a vacuum, we were told, and it sucks you in,” her mother posted. Jenna was killed after being struck by the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway freight train.…

KENOSHA, WIAntonio BrownA drunk man dressed as a clown has been accused of dangling a boy over a railroad overpass early Sunday morning.

According to police, 33-year-old Antonio Brown came home drunk after attending a Halloween party Saturday night. Still dressed as a clown, he told his girlfriend’s two kids that he wanted to go walk the train tracks, something they had all done before.

As he and the two boys – ages 13 and 8 – walked along the tracks, Brown continued drinking alcohol. The boys said Brown was “acting strange” and ended up making them drink the alcohol to the point that one of the boys threw up.

When the younger of the two boys got scared and wanted to go home, Brown got angry. The two boys took off running with Brown in hot pursuit. Brown caught up to the older boy, grabbed him, picked him up and hung him upside down from an overpass. “If you try that again, I’m going to drop you,” he allegedly informed the boy.…

RR CrossingRavenna, OH – A 15-year-old girl learning to drive was killed on Sunday after the vehicle she was driving was struck by a train.

Sierra Thornton had recently received her temporary driver’s permit and was driving on an access road with her father and four younger sisters. At around 6 p.m. they approached a railroad crossing near her home that doesn’t have a crossing gate.

The girl didn’t see or hear the approaching train, but her father did. When he alerted her, she panicked and ended up stopping in the middle of the tracks. “She got into a panic and didn’t know what to do and was not able to get out of the way of the train,” Portage County Sheriff David Doak said. “We think she was trying to get the vehicle into another gear or trying to back up.”

Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to get out off the tracks, and a Norfolk Southern train struck the driver’s side of the SUV, killing Thornton. Her father was conscious after the crash, and he and his other daughters were taken to the hospital.…

Tara LewmanBATAVIA, IA – Two children were killed on Monday after their mother, Tara Lewman, drove her minivan around lowered track arms and was struck by a train.

Verdae Blom, who works for Vision Ag, which is located by the tracks where the accident occurred, said he heard a loud noise around 4 p.m. Monday, and then saw a large plume of dust.

“It was a mess,” said Blom, describing the aftermath as being like nothing he’d ever seen before. When he went to the crossing to get a better look, he saw that two young children had been
thrown from a Dodge Caravan, which landed nose-down in a ditch.

“It was a tangled-up mess,” said Blom. “The whole back of it, on the passenger side from the front seat, the whole thing was wiped out. It was terrible.”

According to Iowa State Patrol’s initial crash report, Tara Lewman, the childrens’ mother, allegedly drove around a lowered railroad crossing gate at around 4 p.m. when her vehicle was hit by a westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train.…

SACRAMENTO, CA — A popular visual arts teacher at St Francis High School was killed while taking pictures of an oncoming train.

Police said 52-year-old Kathy Carlisle was on train tracks near the campus of St Francis, taking pictures of an approaching train, when she was struck from behind by a train travelling in the opposite direction. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The president of St. Francis said the school canceled classes on Monday and organized a memorial service for Carlisle. They’re also providing grief counselors and allowing students to set up a memorial and posting a bulletin board for students who want to share memories or express their grief.

“We’re taking this opportunity to really reflect on the tremendous gift that she was to our community,” said Reid Brown. “She was so skilled and passionate in her work, and really had a gift. The girls understood that she had a gift to share with them.”

Carlisle, a married mother of three, taught 600 students at the all girl Catholic school since 2008.…

Midland, TX — A town in Texas is mourning the loss of four veterans during a parade accident in which a train struck a Show of Support parade float.

Yesterday evening, the ninth annual Show of Support parade was taking 24 veterans and their spouses and girlfriends from the DoubleTree by Hilton to the Horseshoe in south Midland where the Hunt for Heroes banquet was to be held. Afterwards, the veterans were being treated to an all-expenses paid weekend hunting trip, while their spouses would be treated to a variety of activities in Midland.

The parade float transporting the veterans consisted of two separate flatbed tractor trailer trucks. Each were adorned with American flags with two dozen veterans and their spouses sitting in chairs set up on the back of each flatbed tractor-trailer.

At one point during their route to the Horeshoe, the trucks had to cross over a set of railroad track. Police were reportedly directing traffic as the first truck made it over the tracks but then had to stop.…

STATEN ISLAND, NY — I’m just getting back from vacation and behind on the news, so I’m just going to post some stories I found interesting, starting with the 15-year-old high school freshman who jumped in front of a train last week because she was tired of being bullied by members of her high school’s football team.

Felicia Garcia, a 15-year-old student at Tottenville High School, was being picked on because of rumors that she slept with multiple members of the football team at a party held after a game. After school administrators heard about the rumors, they met with Garcia and the 17-year-old boy who was singled out as the main instigator.

Reports are that the meeting ended with Garcia running out while shouting at the boy. Her friends say that Garcia normally didn’t let the bullying bother her. She’d already had a tough life with her parents dying when she was young and being bounced between foster homes after running away from her aunt’s home to be with an older man.…

POPLAR BLUFF, MO — Two years ago we reported on someone in North Carolina who was killed by a train while investigating a ghost train. Now we have two teenage girls in Missouri who were also trying to catch a glimpse of a ghost train, and were killed when a very real train smashed into the vehicle they were sitting in.

“They were playing a stupid game called ‘Ghost Train,’ and the object is to get scared, kind of like telling stories on Halloween,” Butler County Coroner Jim Akers said. “The game was to park on the tracks, let the windows fog up inside and let your mind play tricks on you.”

As Aikers stated, and as detailed in a post at strangeusa.com, the game consists of stopping your vehicle on a particular stretch of tracks on Wilcox Road and turning it off. As you sit there with the rolled up windows becoming increasingly foggy, legend says you may see the lights of a train that crashed in the 1900s.…
