MIAMI, FL – Authorities say 14-year-old Nakia Venant was live-streaming when she hanged herself in her foster family’s bathroom.

The two hour live-stream happened Sunday night inside the bathroom as Venant made a noose from a scarf. She then attached the scarf to the shower door frame and hanged herself.

One of Venant’s friends saw the live-stream and contacted police, but police first showed up at the friend’s house. They were then provided the wrong address before finally finding the correct residence.

Once inside the home, they found Venant hanging in the bathroom as her foster parents slept. Despite efforts to save her, Venant would be pronounced dead at the hospital.

Administrators with the Florida Department of Children and Families aren’t saying much about the circumstances surrounding Venant’s suicide, only stating that police were investigating the death of a child in the care of a foster family.

“We are absolutely horrified and devastated by the news of this young girl’s death,” said DCF Secretary Mike Carroll. “We will do everything we can to support this family and all those who cared for her as they begin to heal from this tragedy.…
