Murder Trial Delayed For Alyssa Bustamante

August 25, 2011 at 9:00 am by

ST. MARTINS, Missouri – One trial I am looking forward to is the trial of Alyssa Bustamante, the teen accused of killing her neighbor, 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten. I had hoped it would start as scheduled, but now it looks like it won’t start until the beginning of next year.

Olten vanished while walking home from a friend’s house back in 2009. The day after she disappeared, the older sister of the friend Olten was visiting, a then 15-year-old Bustamante, led police to Olten’s dead body.

The mentally disturbed teen, with a history of cutting and a suicide attempt at 13, admitted to police that she killed the girl. After strangling, stabbing and cutting the girl’s throat, she buried her in a grave behind her house that she had dug a week prior. She told police she killed the girl because she wanted to know what it felt like.

Her attorney wanted her tried as a juvenile and kept in a juvenile facility where she would receive better treatment and increase her chances of rehabilitation.…

Bushnell, Florida – It’s been over two years since 2-year-old Shaianna Hare was killed by her family’s pet python, but yesterday afternoon the couple accused of causing her horrific death learned their fate.

After being found guilty of manslaughter, third-degree murder and child neglect, a judge has sentenced Jaren Hare, 21, and Charles “Jason” Darnell, 31, to 12 years in prison.

For those of you who have not followed this case, the couple were charged after they woke up one morning to find that Gypsy, their 8-foot long python, had gotten out of its tank and had turned 2-year-old Shaiuanna Hare into a squeeze toy.

Darnell was able to get the snake off of her by stabbing it, but the girl had been strangled to death. It would later be revealed that Gypsy had not been fed in a month, that Gypsy had escaped from her tank on multiple occasions — including earlier the day the little girl was killed.

The couple had been offered a plea deal that would have had them serving 10 years in prison, but they felt they did nothing wrong and opted to put their fate in the hands of a jury who would end up finding them guilty on all counts back in July.…

PLAINVIEW, N.Y. — A mother in has been charged with manslaughter in the death of her 8-year-old, disabled daughter. Police say she killed her daughter — in a way that I’m pretty sure we’ve never reported on before — before trying to kill herself.

Just hours before she was supposed to participate in her cousin’s wedding as a flower girl, Julie Cirella was found lying dead beside her unconscious mother, 30-year-old Veronica Cirella.

The mother and daughter were found in the basement of the home they shared, Julie laying dead on a mattress with Cirella laying beside her unconscious and a cord wrapped around her neck.

Cirella was taken to the Nassau University Medical Center and charged with manslaughter. Prosecutor say she purposely fed her daughter food she was allergic to then withheld her allergy medicine as she suffered an attack. Julie died from her throat closing as she went into anaphylactic shock

Victoria then tried to kill herself, but was less successful. They also claim Cirella left a note that said detailed her intentions to kill her daughter, who suffers from cerebral palsy, and that she “should die.” The girl’s father is currently in jail after violating an order of protection taken out by Veronica.…

Bushnell, Florida — A little over two years after we first posted about the couple whose little girl was killed by the family’s pet python, the couple were on trial fighting murder charges.

Yesterday they were found guilty on all counts against them. It took a jury less than two hours to find Jaren Hare, 21, and Charles “Jason” Darnell, 31, guilty of manslaughter, third-degree murder and child neglect.

The couple were charged after they woke up one morning in 2009 to find that their 8-foot long python named Gypsy had gotten out of its tank and was firmly fastened to 2-year-old Shaiuanna Hare’s head.

Darnell was able to get the snake off of her by stabbing it multiple times, but it was too late, the girl had been strangled to death. It would later be reported that the snake had not been fed in a month, that the tank it was being kept in was inadequate and that Gypsy had escaped from it on multiple occasions — including earlier the day the little girl was killed.…

Orlando, FL — Jury selection has started for a couple charged in an incident Jaded posted about two years ago. Back in July of 2009, a 2-year-old girl was strangled to death by her family’s pet python while she slept in her crib.

Jaren Hare, 21, and her boyfriend, 34-year-old Charles Darnell, were both charged with third-degree murder, manslaughter and child neglect after they woke up to find their 8.5 ft long Burmese python, Gypsy, trying to eat 2-year-old Shaiuanna Hare.

Darnell would reportedly stab the snake multiple times in an effort to get the snake to relinquish the stranglehold it had on Shaiunna, but it would be too late, the girl was already dead. This is Florida’s first case in which a non-venomous snake has killed a child, so the couple hold the distinct honor of being the first people in the history of Florida who have been charged with murder over a non-venomous snake killing a child — and with good reason.

Investigators would learn that the snake had not been fed in a month, and that Darnell had placed the snake in a tank with a quilt over the top.…

Wayne City, IL — Roughly four hours after allegedly beating and choking  his new wife so badly she had to be placed in a coma, an Illinois man was found dead.

35 year-old Charla Baker was married to 41 year-old Rodney Baker for less than a week before he allegedly choked her unconscious Wednesday morning. Her children woke up to the sound of her screams for help and witnessed Rodney fleeing out the front door. When police arrived, Mrs. Baker was found unresponsive and bleeding from the nose and mouth. They stated she also sustained a head injury.

She was brought by ambulance to the hospital where doctors place her in a medically-induced coma. Rodney’s body was found shortly after 8am by two farm workers, hanging from the steps of a grain bin, which is probably some farm-type apparatus I can’t be bothered to look up. Said Wayne County Coroner Jimmy Taylor, “It appeared that he hanged himself in a hurried fashion very shortly after the incident… he first tried to use some clothing to make a rope, then found a piece of rope from a fishing net in the tool box of his truck.” Yikes.…

WAYLAND, Mass. — Nathaniel Fujita, 18, has been charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, 18-year-old Lauren Astley.

Astley’s father became concerned when his daughter did not check in with him after leaving work Sunday night and began calling her friends. Not long after, her Jeep Grand Cherokee was found at the Wayland Town Beach, but there was no sign of Astley.

On Monday morning, a bicyclist discovered Astley’s body in a marshy area off Water Row Road and called police. When police pulled Astley from the water, she had a bungee cord wrapped around her neck to go along with a “gaping, significant, and horrendous” neck wound.

On Tuesday, Middelex County DA Gerry Leone stated Astley was killed by strangulation from “a ligature and a wound to her neck using a sharp object.”

It didn’t take long for police to zero in on Fujita. He had dated Astley for three years and she had recently broke things off. Astley’s friends told police Fujita been calling her at work Sunday night and she had told them she was stopping by his house after work.…

Stamford, CT — Gerard Michael Landon, 46, was arrested Friday evening for sexually assaulting a woman who, in defense, bit off a “substantial” piece of his tongue.

According to police, the alleged attack occurred as the victim was exiting St. John’s Church at about 10:00 p.m. Thursday evening. Landon reportedly approached the woman, who is said to be in her mid-50’s, and asked for a hug. When the woman refused, police say Landon attacked, wrestling the woman to the ground and shoving his vile tongue in her mouth. The attack came to an abrupt halt, however, after the woman chomped down on Landon’s tongue.

“It was a substantial piece of his tongue,” said said Stamford Police Sgt. Paul Guzda. “About an inch worth.”

The offending hunk of meat was recovered at the scene and area hospitals were alerted to be on the lookout for a man with a serious tongue injury. In addition to the identifiable piece of tongue, police also recovered video surveillance recordings from the church that substantiated the woman’s story.…

Bangor, ME — Roxanne Jeskey, 48, was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the brutal torture and murder of her husband, 53-year-old Richard Jeskey. And she didn’t murder him just a little bit either…

According to the police affidavit, Richard’s naked, beaten and bloodied body was found in the bathtub on June 13. An autopsy conducted the next day revealed extensive multiple blunt and sharp force injuries to the head, neck, torso, and limbs…

“These included nose fractures, loss of an eye, rib fractures, rectal incised wounds, and internal hemmorhage from an instrument(s) pushed through his scrotum into his abdomen,” Bangor police Detective David Bushey wrote in the affidavit. “Further, Mr. Jeskey was strangled with sufficient force to break the hyoid bone of his neck.”

Roxanne reportedly admitted to police that she assaulted her husband with various weapons including pliers, a box cutter and a plastic baseball bat.

She described to detectives how she used a pair of pliers to injure Richard’s genitals, stating that as he sat in the bathtub, presumably bleeding from his baby-maker, he “made a statement concerning the fact that she had hurt him,” to which she replied, “Now you know how I feel.”

Roxanne told police she exited the bathroom and left Richard sitting in the bathtub.…

Fond du Lac, WI — A 9-year-old girl came to the aid of her mother by stabbing Jason Fields, 27, in the back for the second time in two years. The woman and Fields have a child in common.

It all began when police were called to the woman’s home last week after Fields jumped on the woman’s car and broke the windshield. According to the complaint, police left after Fields gave the woman money for the windshield and assured them that he would leave the home for the day. He did not.

The couple started fighting shortly after police left. Fields is accused of strangling the woman and holding a knife to her throat, threatening to kill her. As Fields was threatening her, police say the 9-year-old girl plunged a kitchen knife into Field’s back – he then dropped his knife in response.

According to the complaint, the 9-year-old girl told police she was not upset by the incident as she had stabbed Fields in the leg two years earlier when he also was hurting her mother.…

Calumet City, Illinois – Wanderer posted a story a couple days ago regarding the dead body of 18-year-old Rosemary Newman being found in a forest preserve. She was nine-months pregnant. Yesterday police announced they have arrested and charged two people for her murder. It turns out it was her ex-boyfriend and another woman, and what they did was as chilling as it was cold-blooded.

Newman was lured to a restaurant by her ex, 20-year-old Deandre Minkens, 20, under the guise of getting back together. Minkens is reportedly the father of Newman’s unborn baby. Newman’s family tried to warn her not to go, but she went anyway leaving a note that read “he already in my hands because he want to get back with me.”

What Newman didn’t know was that her family was right about their suspicions and that she had walked into a trap, a murder plot Minkens had spent several weeks planning. After eating at the restaurant, the pair got into Minkens vehicle where 19-year-old Shante Thomas was hiding. …

Muncie, IN — Kenneth Wayne Meer, 21, was arrested Sunday morning after going to Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital for treatment for stab wounds to his stomach and back.

Police were actually anticipating Meer’s arrival at the hospital after a 21-year-old female Ball State University student reported a rape during which she had stabbed her assailant four times.

According to police, at approximately 4:30AM, Meer knocked on the door of the victim’s apartment. Police say the victim opened the door and Meer “forced his way into her apartment.” The two then began to struggle.

Meer pulled a knife and put it to the woman’s throat, but dropped the knife during the struggle. The victim grabbed the knife and began stabbing Meer as he strangled her. The woman passed out from the strangulation, according to police reports.

It was after the victim regained consciousness that Meer reportedly raped her. As he was doing so, he tried to contain the blood from his multiple stab wounds using a T-shirt.

Meer’s mother and girlfriend told investigators Meer returned home around 6 a.m.…
