EMERSON, NE – A Nebraska couple have pleaded not guilty to charges they deprived their two teenage boys from food and showers.

The Busker’s kids are hungry. And stinky.

Why? Because the Buskers are assholes. Cheap assholes.

On Wednesday August 8th, Blaine Busker, 41, and Donella Busker, 38, of Emerson, Nebraska, were arrested for the mistreatment of two teenaged boys that were under their care.

Local media reports refer to the boys as their “sons,” but the story linked above notes that the Buskers had received a total of $5,475 from the state of Nebraska “from February through June to care for the children,” and the duration of the abuse was specified as being from January 1st through June 18th, so it looks like the boys are actually foster children.

Which doesn’t excuse the starvation, privation and abuse that they had to endure.

Even with all that money coming in, the Buskers begrudged the two (presumably) growing boys proper nutrition, so much so that they kept the refrigerator and kitchen cupboards padlocked to prevent any surreptitious snacking.…

REEDSBURG, WI – Police have arrested a couple after their 15-year-old son starved to death during the family’s religious-based fast.

God tells people to do wacky shit every day; he has been the cray-cray-whisperer for millennia. And people listen; boy, do they ever.

The Big Man has been on a roll ever since he whispered in Abraham’s ear:

“Then God said, ‘Take your son, your only son, whom you love— Isaac— and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.'” (Genesis 22:2)

…and Abraham grabbed Isaac and some camping gear and got to steppin’.

Of course, anyone who has spent any time in Sunday School knows how that old story plays out: right before the knife comes down on lil’ Isaac, God busts that psych-move, gets a good belly-laugh, and spares Isaac, much to the chagrin of a nearby ram, who got the honor of dying for God instead.

You’d think at some point, people would stop listening to the ol’ Cosmic Jokester, since his commands always seem to end with someone dying a horrible death, but no.…

MEEKER, OK – Four members of a family in Oklahoma have been arrested after a 15-year-old boy was found starving to death inside a barn.

Police were called after a passerby called to report seeing an extremely malnourished boy outside of a barn.

When authorities arrived at the property, they found the teen sharing a barn with goats, rabbits and chickens. When found, police say he only weighed 80-lbs.

According to the teen, he had been living in the barn for the last two years. Since he was not allowed to eat food from the house, he had to forage for food on his own and had been eating sticks, leaves and grass.

The boy was also found to have suffered head injuries, broken bones and had shotgun pellets lodged in his leg after having been shot by his father.

The boy’s father, Jimmy Lee Jones Sr, 34; stepmother, Amy Adkins Jones, 46; and two older stepbrothers, Jonathan Luke Plank, 20, and Tyler Joe Adkins, 24, have all been charged and taken into custody.…

ALTA VISTA, IA – An Alta Vista couple has been charged with murder after the maggot-riddled body of their severely neglected 4-month-old child was found in a baby swing at the family’s apartment in Iowa.

Zachary Paul Koehn, 28, and his girlfriend, 20-year-old Cheyanne Renae Harris, had the bracelets slapped on this past Wednesday when they were charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment.

According to court records, their son, Sterling Daniel Koehn, was found dead Aug. 30 after Zachary Koehn called 911 requesting an ambulance come to the couple’s home.

When Chickasaw County sheriff’s deputies and medics arrived, they found the deceased infant sitting in a powered baby swing, according to the criminal complaints. Sterling was found in a bedroom separate from where Koehn, Harris and their older child slept.

No report of whether the room had an Air Wick, though autopsy results suggest it must’ve been getting pretty ripe in there.

When deputies first arrived at the couple’s apartment, Koehn reportedly told them that Harris had fed Sterling that morning and, “he was fine.”

Koehn claimed that when Harris checked on their son a few hours later, he had died, according to the complaint.…

WYOMING, MI – Police have arrested a woman after they say she starved her infant to death as he sat strapped in a car seat inside her apartment.

On July 19, 22-year-old Lovily Johnson showed up at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital with the corpse of her six-month-old son, Noah Johnson.

“Upon arrival, Noah was clearly deceased and had been for some time,” Wyoming Detective Robert Meredith wrote in a probable cause affidavit.

Meredith also wrote that Johnson admitted to intentionally depriving Noah of food and left him strapped in a car seat for several days on the upper floor of her apartment with no air conditioning.

Johnson was arrested several hours later and charged with felony murder and first-degree child abuse. Both charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison. She is being held without bond until her probable cause hearing on Aug. 2.

Johnson also as a 2-year-old daughter who has been placed under the supervision of the state.

If an infant starving to death while strapped in a car seat sounds familiar, you may be thinking of a similar case we reported on back in 2008.…

JOHNSTOWN, PA – A 5-month-old baby starved to death in a bassinet after her parents both died of heroin overdoses.

Police were called to the home of a couple after someone went inside to check on the family that had not been seen or heard from in a week.

Once inside, they found 27-year-old Jason Chambers and 19-year-old Chelsea Cardaro dead from heroin overdoses. Chambers was on the first floor while Cardaro was found in a second-floor bathroom.

But they got off lucky compared to their 5-month-old daughter, Summer Chambers. She was found dead in a bassinet after suffering “three to four days” of dehydration and starvation.

Officials believe the family has been dead for a week. Neighbors last saw the family Dec. 11, and thought they had taken a planned trip to New York.

“It’s an unfortunate incident where they both possibly overdosed at the same time – and being from out of town, not having anybody in town,” said Johnstown police Capt. Chad Miller. “It was too long for anybody to notice that they were missing.”

This isn’t the first time police had been to the home on an overdose call.…

mary-martinezMILWAUKEE, WI — Two women have been charged in the death of a 7-year-old boy who was malnourished, burned with cigarettes and whipped with cords.

According to police, 44-year-old Etter Hughes moved from Arkansas to the rat-infested apartment of 47-year-old Mary Martinez, a woman she had met in prison.

Hughes brought along her 13-year-old son and the two younger sons of her cousin, who was moving to Wisconsin at a later time.

Almost immediately after moving in, 7-year-old Trevion and his 9-year-old brother suffered beatings at the hands of Martinez, and were routinely denied food.

Investigators say Martinez would kick them in the head, punch them in the back, burn them with cigarettes and whip them with electrical cords. Police say that at no time during this abuse did Hughes intervene.

That changed last week when Trevion was found unresponsive with his eyes were rolling back into his head.

When Martinez saw the boy’s condition, she allegedly told Etter she and the boys needed to get out of her house and to drop Trevion off in the woods.…

Kimberly HaygoodSARASOTA, FL – Police have arrested a couple after three children were found abused and severely malnourished, including a 4-year-old boy that weighed 22 pounds.

Police were called in to investigate a severe case of child abuse involving a 6-year-old boy and 4-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, who had been admitted to All Children’s Hospital.

“The sight of the 4-year-old boy took my breath away,” Detective Megan Buck said. “My description of him when I saw him was that he looked like a skeleton. His body was skin and bones. He has no hair because of lack of nutrients. He has a skin rash and marks from the lack of nutrients. He is non-verbal and cannot talk.”

According to reports, the boy’s intestines were completely empty and he only weighed 22 pounds – the normal weight of an 11-month-old baby. His twin sister only weighed 26 pounds.

The older sibling said that they live with their mother, 27-year-old Kimberly Haygood, but their father, 30-year-old Anthony Jones, also stays at the home and beats them with a belt.…

Michael GundersonBALDWIN TOWNSHIP, MN – Michael Gunderson, 32, is facing charges after his two children were found by their mother starving in a crib, and one of them appearing to eat feces.

The children’s mother left for Utah for work, leaving the toddlers, ages 2 and 3, in the care of Gunderson. When she returned two months later, she found the kids alone in a crib inside a home that smelled like piss and was littered with trash and dog shit.

Even worse, the children were “weak and thin” with their rib cages clearly defined. One “appeared to be trying to eat feces,” while another was too weak to even walk.

The mother took her kids to the hospital where medical personnel noted that the children had sores on their bodies and “were diagnosed as being severely malnourished and subject to starvation.” The kids were immediately given fluids by IV, and police were notified about the conditions of the children.

When police interviewed Gunderson, he admitted he left the children at home so he could go to work.…

Amanda HancockGRANTS PASS, OR – Stephen Williams Jr., 26, and Amanda Hancock, 21, have been charged with starving their 7-week-old son to death while Hancock was busy self-lactating online for paying customers.

Last month, and ambulance was called to the couple’s home to treat an infant who’d stopped breathing. Data Hancock would die later, despite best efforts to revive him. The couple was arrested on murder charges on Tuesday after an autopsy revealed the infant had starved to death.

According to the charging documents, the couple showed “extreme indifference” to human life by failing to provide Data Hancock adequate food and medical care. The couple admitted that they never took Data to any doctor appointments and didn’t participate in any prenatal care before Data was born.

Williams told investigators the baby was fed milk a few times a day, but he did notice the baby was losing weight. He didn’t call the doctor “because that was Amanda’s responsibility.”

One reason why the infant may have went hungry was because Hancock’s breast milk was being sprayed out of her nips for the enjoyment of paying customers.…

Angela AlexieEASTPOINTE, MI – Angela Alexie is behind bars after police say the 24-year-old gave birth to a baby that she let starve to death in an unheated garage.

On Jan 14th, employees at a Roseville recycling center found a dead newborn on a sorting conveyor and contacted police. The resulting investigation lead police to Alexie, who is homeless, and she would admit to them that the baby was hers.

According to Alexie, she gave birth to the baby boy on Dec 22 at a home she had been living at, possibly with her boyfriend. Instead of calling for help or dropping the baby off at the nearest fire station, Alexie put the baby in the home’s unheated garage until it died several days later.

“She left the house and then back out to the garage to check on the baby every few hours,” said Roseville Police Detective Brad McKenzie. “Then the baby finally passed away on the 24th of December.”

McKenzie went on to say that the dead baby was placed in a recycling can by “some unknown person” weeks later.…

Kathleen DensmoreSAINT PETERSBURG, FL – Kathleen Densmore, 48, has been accused of neglecting her elderly uncle so severely, that he was found dead weighing about 50 pounds.

Densmore shared a home with her uncle, 85-year-old Robert Densmore, who she also cared for. She called police on Friday after finding the man unresponsive in his bed. When officers arrived, they found the man “extremely emaciated” and suffering from bed sores.

Densmore told police her uncle suffered from dementia and had lived with her for several years. Although she was his caregiver and legal guardian, she hadn’t taken him to the doctor in five years.

She also informed them that her uncle hadn’t been able to move for the last year of his life, during which time, she’d only fed him baby food. Densmore also admitted she hadn’t bathed her uncle for the last two months because his skin would fall off when touched.

Densmore was arrested and charged with one count of elderly abuse. Additional charges may be filed after an autopsy is completed.
