LAKE CITY, FL – An inmate at Columbia Correctional Institution murdered his cellmate, gouged out his eyes, then strolled to breakfast with the victim’s ear on a necklace.

The incident happened early Thursday inside a cell being shared by 58-year-old Larry Mark and another man who has not been identified.

Mark was reportedly aggravating his cellmate to the point that his cellmate strangled him to death. But the cellmate wasn’t done.

After killing Mark, the man gouged out Mark’s eyeballs and placed them in a cup. He reportedly told other inmates he planned to eat them later.

Mark’s body was not discovered until after his killer showed up for breakfast with other inmates and began showing off Mark’s ear that he had fashioned into a stylish necklace.

Unconfirmed reports state Mark’s killer had recently been transferred to Columbia from Florida State Prison where he had been on Death Row.

Obviously, I don’t know Mark so I can’t comment on his character or if he deserved the death he got. However, he was serving a life sentence for beating a cab driver’s skull in for $35 and a wedding ring.…

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – A woman made her husband return to prison two hours after he was mistakenly released due to a prison mix-up.

James Rynerson, 38, was being held in the Mesa County Jail on menacing, disorderly conduct and trespassing charges.

Another inmate, Marvin March, was temporarily placed in Rynerson’s cell while his own cell was under construction.

The jail’s staff neglected to note when March was moved back to his own cell.

So you can imagine the gears turning in Rynerson’s head when jail officials came to his cell — thinking he was March — to release him.

Rynerson decided not to tell them he wasn’t March and rolled with it. YOLO, right?

The jail staff didn’t bother to check his wristband or identification to confirm his identity, so not only was he released, Rynerson also collected March’s paperwork, debit card and leather jacket on the way out.

The jail didn’t realize their error until March asked them when the hell was he getting out.

But they didn’t have to search long as Rynerson turned back up at the jail two hours later.…

amber-hilberlingMCLOUD, OK – The 25-year-old woman convicted of second-degree murder for pushing her husband through the window of their 25th floor apartment has been found dead in her prison cell.

We first reported on Amber Hilberling back in 2011 after her she pushed her husband, Joshua, through a plate glass window. Police would charge her with murder after Joshua’s fall was stopped by a garage roof 17 floors below.

Hilberling was 19-years-old and seven months pregnant at the time, and went on the news circuit claiming her innocence. This included an appearance on “Dr. Phil” where she claimed her husband’s death was an accident — the result of self-defense and thin windows.

However, a conversation between her and her grandmother in a police interrogation room captured Hilberling calling herself a “horrible person” and asking what kind of person would push her husband out of a window. She also says her husband was messing with a television when she shoved him through the window.

There was also the fact that her husband had filed an emergency protective order against her before his death, claiming she was physically abusive towards him and had brained him so hard with a lamp that he had to get staples and stitches.…

Roberto FernandezFLORENCE, AZ  – A man approaching his release from prison killed his cellmate so that he would not be sent back to Mexico.

According to a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, 43-year-old Roberto Fernandez was serving time after being convicted of  a sex crime. He’s from Mexico, but committed the crime in the U.S and was serving his time in an Arizona prison.

With his release date coming up, Fernandez decided he liked being in prison and did not want to possibly be sent back to Mexico upon his release. To solve that problem, he decided to do something that would ensure he stayed right where he was. He decided he would commit murder.

The person Fernandez chose to kill was his cellmate, 55-year-old Michael McNaughton, who was serving a six year prison sentence after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge.

But simply killing the man wouldn’t do, figured Fernandez. To ensure he received the stiffest penalty possible, he needed to make sure the murder was brutal enough that he was charged with nothing less than first-degree murder.…

Rithy MamCalifornia – Thousands of paroled child molesters and rapists in California are removing court-ordered GPS monitors, aware there’s little risk of serving time for doing so, and some are being charged with new crimes that include sexual battery, kidnapping and attempted manslaughter.

A Times investigation has revealed that since October 2011, when the state began referring parole offenders go to county jails instead overcrowded prisons, more than 3,400 arrest warrants for convicts who tampered with tracking devices. Most of these warrants were for sex offenders, and many were for repeat violations.

“It’s a huge problem,” said Fresno parole agent Matt Hill. “If the public knew, they’d be shocked.”

California has 33 adult prisons designed to hold a maximum of 80,000 prisoners, but currently has 140,000. The Supreme Court declared California prison overcrowding unconstitutional in 2011, stating California cannot imprison more than 109,805 inmates at any time, then ordered 33,000 prisoners be released over two years

To help with this demand, Gov. Jerry Brown introduced a “realignment” program that would see 52,000 prisoners released, 19,000 more than what was required.…

Jeremiah TaylorNew Castle, IN — Jeremiah Taylor, a man convicted of child molestation last year, was beaten to death inside an Indiana prison.

According to police, the 37-year-old was found unconscious at the bottom of a staircase at the state prison in New Castle late Thursday night. He was taken to Henry County Hospital then flown to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he died Saturday morning.

Investigators believe the inmate’s injuries were “not the result of an accident, but were the result of Taylor having been battered shortly before being found in the stairwell,” an Indiana State Police release said.

Taylor was charged with molesting a preschooler in 2009, but was not apprehended until 2011. He pleaded guilty to charges of child molestation in June of last year, and was sentenced to 20-years in prison with 12 years suspended. Taylor had been at the prison since July of last year and was scheduled to be released in 2018.

Before anyone assumes he was murdered because of his admitted crimes, Mike Smith, public information officer at the New Castle Correctional Facility, said a large segment of the New Castle prison population consists of sex offenders.…

MONROE, Wash. – Last year we reported on the heinous murder of Jayme Biendl, the 34-year-old prison guard at the Monroe Correctional Complex, who was murdered in the prison chapel by inmate Byron Scherf. His videotaped confession has been made public, one in which he explains why and how he killed Biendl.

Scherf was serving a life sentence for rape and assault when he was noticed missing during a head count last year. He was eventually found sitting in the prison’s chapel where he often volunteered, suffering from scratches and bite marks to his arms and hands.

He explained he had been attacked by a pack of Mexicans and had fallen asleep in the chapel. It was an hour later, while Scherf was being questioned in the shift lieutenant’s office, that Biendl’s body would be discovered inside the chapel. She had been strangled to death with an amplifier cord.

Scherf would be charged with Beindl’s murder and the prison would suffer some fallout in regards to Biendl’s fellow employees trying to cover their incompetence, and even some changes that improved worker safety.…

Los Lunas, NM — An man in jail died of a drug overdose and now his girlfriend is facing charges after police say the drugs were mailed to the dead man inside children’s paintings.

Joseph Segura died of a Suboxone overdose while in state prison last year. The drug, normally given to people trying to get off heroin, was smuggled into the prison inside watercolor paintings supposedly made by his kids.

At face value, the artwork looked like any other crappy artwork children make, accompanied with notes about missing and loving daddy. But the paint used to create the yellow sun and duck was spiked.

Police say his girlfriend, 47-year-old Shari Stone, crushed up Suboxone and mixed it into the paint so that when Segura got the artwork, he would simply lick the paintings and catch one hell of a buzz.

Not any more of course, as he’s dead and his girlfriend is looking at a charge of involuntary manslaughter, bringing contraband onto prison grounds, conspiracy to commit bringing contraband onto prison grounds and distribution of a controlled substance.…

Mexico City — Here’s one of the stories I was working on yesterday. A woman is now facing multiple charges after she got busted trying to sneak her husband out of prison in a suitcase.

Maria del Mar Arjona, 19, had been allowed a conjugal visit with her husband, Juan Ramirez Tijerina, who was serving time after being convicted of federal drug trafficking charges.

As she was leaving, prison guards noticed something very odd about the overstuffed suitcase Arjona was toting. The suitcase, on wheels, was clearly overstuffed and something inside moved as Arjona, who was six months pregnant, attempted to take it up the stairs that led out of the prison.

The guards stopped a nervous Arjona and checked the contents of the suitcase. Inside they found Tijerna packed away inside, curled up in the fetal position.

Luckily the guards snapped the following picture of their find before taking Tijerna back to his cell, and the Internet thanks them for doing so. It really is a great picture…almost looks like the suitcase is giving birth.…

HUNTSVILLE— Cary Kerr, 46,  has been on Huntsville Prison death row since his 2003 conviction of sexually assaulting and strangling 34-year-old Pamela Norton. She was killed after he pushed her from a moving vehicle. He has always professed his innocence, even though the evidence showed otherwise.

The jury agreed with prosecutors and convicted him of the charges and decided the world would be a better place if Kerr was removed from it, agreeing he was a suitable candidate for the death penalty.

Yesterday was his date with the needle and aside from having a last meal that consisted of cheeseburger and fries, spaghetti and lasagna, pizza, fried mushrooms, tacos, pork ribs, fried and baked chicken, quiche, and ice cream, he was also the first recipient of Texas’ new drug combo used during lethal injections.

Sodium thiopental is one of the three drugs used in lethal injections and is no longer available. So now pentobarbital will be used in its place. This new mixture was administered to Kerr at 6:14 yesterday evening and by 6:19 he was pretty dead, proving the new drug combo works pretty well.…

CRANSTON, RI — Back in 1975, Michael Woodmansee, then 16,  kidnapped and murdered 5-year-old Jason Foreman. Eight years later he would be sentenced to 40 years in jail after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and kidnapping. Now it is being reported that Woodmansee is set to be released 12 years earlier than expected.

Because of a longstanding law, Woodmansee has earned up to 12 days off his sentence for every month he behaved and held a job during his last 28 years in prison. This prompted outrage from the Foreman’s family, leading to his father, John Foreman, going on air and promising he would kill Woodmansee if he is released.

Speaking to WPRO’s John DePetro John Foreman said, I do intend, if this man is released anywhere in my vicinity, or if I can find him after the fact, I do intend to kill this man.”

Can’t say I blame him. The kid was abducted by Woodmansee, who lived down the street, on his mother’s 25th birthday. Foreman admitted he had long fantasized about killing someone, and 5-year-old Jason just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.…

COVINGTON, TN – A man currently in prison for raping two girls continues to abuse his victims from prison by sending them letters and cards from his cell.

Terry Bernard McConnell was convicted of rape of a child and aggravated sexual battery involving two female victims back in 2003 and sentenced to almost 20 years in prison. In the meantime, he continues to victimize the kids he sexually assaulted by sending them birthday and Christmas cards from prison.

Happy birthday, I hope you have a wonderful day and following year.  I cannot believe my little tot-tot is already a teenager.  You might be tired of me writing this but I can’t get over how fast you are growing up,” Donna Turner with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department read from one of these cards.

He is able to get away with this because although he was convicted of raping children, he is not a registered sex offender. Not yet, anyway. The registry was created so that the public would be aware of where a sex offender was located.…
