Puyallup, Washington — As most have learned by now, Josh Powell, the man suspected of killing his wife in 2009, has killed himself along with his two young sons.

Police say that on Sunday, a social worker arrived at Powell’s home with his two sons — Braden, 5, and Charlie, 7 — for a court ordered, supervised visit. Instead, Powell pushed the worker out of the house and locked himself inside with his two boys. A few minutes later, after the social worker had attempted to gain entry, the house exploded.

Three bodies were found together in one of the rooms in the burned house, and while they have not been positively identified, investigators believe them to be those of Powell, Braden and Charlie. Here’s a gruesome update; the bodies were identified as Josh and his two boys. Josh used a hatchet on Braden and Charlie, causing “chop” injuries to their necks, but both boys and Josh died from inhaling carbon monoxide.

The social worker stated she smelled gas shortly before the explosion while Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer stated that Powell had committed murder-suicide, saying the fire “was done intentionally.”

Reports also say that Powell sent emails to friends, family and his attorney shortly before the explosion that rattled windows in the neighborhood.…

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — That loony chick who murdered a 9-year-old girl because she wanted to know what it felt like to kill someone has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Alyssa Bustamante has pleaded guilty to the October 2009 murder of her neighbor, 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten. She was only 15 when she slit the girl’s throat, strangled her and stabbed her before putting her in a grave she had dug previously.

In court, judge Pat Joyce instructed Bustamante to describe how she killed Olten.

“I strangled her and stabbed her in the chest,” Bustamante said looking the judge in the eye.

“Did you cut her throat too?” the judge asked.

“Yes,” Bustamante responded.

Elizabeth Olten

Originally charged with first-degree murder, Bustamante pleaded guilty to the lesser murder charge to avoid a trial and a possible life behind bars. In February, Cole County Circuit Judge Patricia Joyce will decide how long Bustamante will spend in prison. A second-degree murder conviction can carry a sentence from anywhere to 10 years to life with the possibility of parole after about 25 years.…

Ft. Smith, Arkansas — The body of 24-year-old Cassie Cotta was found yesterday in rural Crawford County after having been missing since December 30 and her husband has been charged with her murder.

Cassie Cotta’s mother contacted police on New Year’s Eve after her daughter failed to show up for work.  The last time anyone had any contact with her was at around 11pm on December 30 when she left a post on her Facebook account that read  “Blah blah blah.. Cheers people! Fuck it.”

Cassie’s husband, 33-year-old Brent Cotta, was the last person to see Cassie alive and told police she left for a party with a man named “Brandon.” He also commented on that last post of Cassie’s, joining in with concerned friends and expressing his concerns over Cassie’s party habits and the people she hung out with.

The Ft. Smith PD informed Cassie’s family that due to New Years Eve celebrations they would not be able to form a search until January 1, so Cassie’s friends and family started a grassroots effort to locate her using Youtube and Facebook to get the word of her disappearance out to the public.…

Murder Trial Delayed For Alyssa Bustamante

August 25, 2011 at 9:00 am by

ST. MARTINS, Missouri – One trial I am looking forward to is the trial of Alyssa Bustamante, the teen accused of killing her neighbor, 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten. I had hoped it would start as scheduled, but now it looks like it won’t start until the beginning of next year.

Olten vanished while walking home from a friend’s house back in 2009. The day after she disappeared, the older sister of the friend Olten was visiting, a then 15-year-old Bustamante, led police to Olten’s dead body.

The mentally disturbed teen, with a history of cutting and a suicide attempt at 13, admitted to police that she killed the girl. After strangling, stabbing and cutting the girl’s throat, she buried her in a grave behind her house that she had dug a week prior. She told police she killed the girl because she wanted to know what it felt like.

Her attorney wanted her tried as a juvenile and kept in a juvenile facility where she would receive better treatment and increase her chances of rehabilitation.…

The body of a 25-year-old mother of three was found dead yesterday, located in a church’s septic tank. Her estranged husband, along with his parents, have been arrested.

Summer Inman was abducted last Tuesday after leaving work as a janitor at a bank. Witnesses saw two men forcing Inman into a car driven by a blonde woman. Coincidentally, Inman’s estranged husband, William Inman Jr., was seen taking his white Crown Vic to a car wash the following day. Hours later, the car was taken to get new tires.

Summer was in the middle of a nasty divorce from William, and told the courts that he had threatened to kill her if she took his children away from him. Feeling they probably had enough circumstantial evidence, William and his parents, Sandra Inman and William Inman Sr., where taken into custody on Thursday. But they weren’t talking. That is, until Tuesday.

That’s when police say Sandra told them where Summer’s body was located. After six screws were removed from a septic system’s cover behind a church in nearby Nelsonville, Ohio, Inman’s body was discovered.…

Orange, Conn — The FBI, state and local police are searching for 12-year-old Isabella “Bella” Oleschuck who was reported missing by her parents on Sunday morning.

Her parents believe their daughter, who is deaf in one ear, left without their knowledge Saturday night. She does not have her hearing aid. “The parents discovered her missing from her room, and there’s no indications at this time of foul play, so we’re covering all angles,” Orange Assistant Police Chief Ed Koether said. “We’re continuing to do the search and will do so until we have successful resolution.”

Dive teams are searching a pond behind Racebrook School and police would like to speak with a young man and woman seen walking near the pond early Sunday morning. At this time police are classifying Oleschuck as an endangered runaway, but are not ruling anything out.

Oleschuck has blue eyes and shoulder length blond hair. She is 5 feet, 4 inches tall and weights about 120 pounds. She might be wearing a light blue jacket, brown felt hooded cape and black rain boots.…

Jonathan FosterHOUSTON, TX — An Amber Alert was issued Monday for 12-year-old Jonathan Foster. He was last seen around 1:45 p.m on Christmas Eve at the Villa Nueva Apartments where he lives with his mother and stepfather.

Shortly after he was last seen, his mother received an emergency phone call at work. “Someone called and said it was an emergency,” said Mary Gifford, the missing boy’s grandmother. “But by the time she picked up the phone, no one was there.”

Foster’s biological father and other relatives live within walking distance, and Foster often spent time at their homes. His mother called police at 9:30 pm. when she was unable to find him.

“I don’t know if it’s an abduction,” said Sgt. Stuart Harris of HPD’s Missing Persons Unit. “I don’t know if he just walked off. I don’t know if there’s foul play involved. We have no reason to think he’s a runaway. … He’s missing under suspicious circumstances, which is always a major concern for us.”

Jonathan has red or auburn hair and blue eyes.…

CONSTANTINE, MI — While posting the Rowan Ford update below, I remembered another case we posted about at around the exact same time involving 11-year-old Jodi Parrack. She was last seen around 4:45 Thursday afternoon November 8, 2007 riding her bike and was found dead in the Constantine Township Cemetery. Her mother found her there around 10:30 PM that evening, fully clothed with her bicycle nearby. That was three years ago and an arrest still has not been made nor has a suspect been identified. There has been some developments but not much in way of new information. A cause of death has never been released and the police are staying quiet on if Jodi was sexually assaulted or not. Six months after her death, prosecutor Douglas Fisher said they have at least 75 suspects and that her immediate family were not among them. While he was not specific, he added they had forensic evidence from the crime scene that will help in both identifying and clearing suspects. I take that to mean there was DNA collected which means I assume there was a sexual assault.…

HOWARD, Ohio — Police have located the bodies of a missing woman, her son and a family friend after receiving information from their suspected murderer’s lawyer. We know a lot of you have been following this nightmare of a case, and sadly it ends the way some had expected. A massive search for Tina Herrmann, 32, her son Kody Maynard, 10, her daughter Sarah Maynard,13, and family friend Stephanie Sprang, 41, began after Hermann did not show up for work earlier this month. Days later, on Nov 14th, Sarah would be found bound and gagged in the basement of 30-year-old Matthew Hoffman’s home. Police say he had been watching the family and was taken into custody and charged with her abduction. Yesterday investigators were called by Hoffman’s lawyers and given directions to a hollowed-out tree in Apple Valley, Ohio. Stuffed inside the tree the bodies of the missing trio were found wrapped in garbage bags still wearing the same clothes they had last been seen in. Police had already prepared the public that the outcome may not be a good one based on some of the blood evidence they had found, but were still holding out some hope that they would be found alive.…

PAYSON, Ariz. — Searchers are in the air and on the ground frantically searching for 4-year-old Travis Mitchell who disappeared in some woods while playing with friends. Travis was with his older brother and a group of kids playing in some neighborhood woods Sunday evening when walked home to use the bathroom. It wasn’t until the his 10-year-old brother got back to the house that anyone realized Travis had never made it back. The family immediately began searching and called police when they could not locate him. Payson police Sgt. John Heflin say Travis has dark hair, was wearing a red shirt with a football helmet on the front of it, blue shorts and flip flop sandals. Police say there is no indication of foul play.I spent many years with my friends playing in the woods near our neighborhood. Good times…although I wasn’t 4-years-old. I haven’t pulled up the area on a map yet, but I’m assuming the home was pretty close to where the kids were playing. …

MORENO VALLEY, CA – Norma Lopez, 17, has not been seen since Thursday morning last week when she vanished walking home from Valley View High School where she had attended summer classes. She took a common shortcut through a field, where she was to meet her sister and a friend at her home. When she didn’t arrive, they began searching for her with no success and after a couple hours, called police. Witnesses did not see Lopez taken against her will, but they did described seeing a newer model, green SUV speeding away from the area around the time Lopez would have been on her way home. Police also found some of Lopez’s personal items strewn along the route she took, leading them to believe there was some kind of struggle. Norma is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and 110 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black-and-white horizontal stripe sleeveless shirt, “skinny” jeans and black shoes. Today, a $7,500 reward was posted and anyone with information on her whereabouts should call the sheriff’s dispatch center at (951) 776-1099, or a tip line, (877) 242-4345.…

FAIRFAX, Va. – Two teen girls have gone missing and the police no longer think they left on their own free will. A week ago 15-year-old Tram Hoang was spending the night with 16-year-old Tiffany Ghani at the Lillian Court apartment complex. The two girls snuck out of the apartment sometime around 10 p.m Friday night. Tiffany’s father woke up and discovered they were not in the apartment at around midnight. He ran out into the parking lot where he saw a young girl get into a dark car with two adult males inside. Police feel the other girl was already in the car. Tiffany’s father yelled for them to stop, but the car took off and no one has heard from the two girls since. They missed their final classes at George Marshall High School, their cell phones are no longer on, the took no clothes or money and friends and family have heard absolutely nothing from them.
