TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. — A 48-year-old woman was mauled to death by four pit bulls while she took a walk on Sunday.

Witnesses say that Margaret Salcedo tried using her cell phone as the dogs began attacking her, but one of the pits grabbed her arm and she dropped it. For the next three minutes, the four dogs bit her all over her body. A man in a car tried to help Salcedo, but remained in his vehicle when the dogs attacked him as well.

When police arrived, they had to shoot and kill one of the dogs when it charged at him, but the other three ran off. They were later rounded up and taken to the animal shelter. Salcedo was conscious at the scene, but her injuries were too severe and she would later die at the hospital.

The four dogs belonged to John and Maria Hardiman, and reportedly escaped from the home’s fenced-in backyard. The DA will decide if charges will be filed against the dog’s owners.…

Summerfield, FL — 49-year-old Julien Saunders was arrested Monday morning after his 19-year-old daughter told police he pinned her down and sicced his pit bull on her during an argument.

Claiming Julien often uses the 2-year-old pit bull as a weapon when he gets into a fight, Allicia Saunders told police that after she and her father argued about the use of a space heater in her room, he held her down on the floor and allowed the dog to bite her several times. When her mother, Lyn, stepped in to pull her ex-husband off Allicia, the dog attacked her, too. Both women were transported to the hospital with bite wounds.

“The dog could have killed her if I wouldn’t have been there. God only knows how long he would have held her down there,” Lyn said. She claims she’s been bitten by the dog three times in the past. She also said she will likely have to have the dog euthanized this week.

Saunders has denied the allegations, claiming the dog is the violent one, not him.…

Ferret Chewed Off Baby’s Fingers

January 11, 2011 at 12:38 pm by

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. — Police were called to a home early Monday morning after receiving a call that an infant had been attacked by the family’s pet ferret.

When they arrived they found a 4-month-old boy missing some fingers. It seems as if the ferret had gotten into where the boy was sleeping and started chewing off all his fingers. By the time the parents realized what was happening, the boy only had three fingers left; two thumbs and a pinkie.

The father killed the ferret after seeing what it had done. “(I want) to know why the ferret was not locked up properly, secured, especially with an infant in the household,” Sharon Cannon of the Kansas City Ferret Hotline said. She’s not the only one. Because of the severity of the injuries, the Grain Valley Police Department and the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office are now investigating the case.

I hope that this is just a case of an animal getting out of its cage or something. But as we’ve seen before with snakes and even raccoons, some of you pet owners are just absolute morons.…

COVINGTON, Ga. – I shouldn’t take up a portion of this post by gloating about how I already knew that the raccoons that attacked a sleeping baby were probably family pets, but lookie there…I already did.

For those of you who are link impaired, police were called to a home earlier this month after a 9-month-old baby was attacked by two raccoons while it slept in its crib. One raccoon was shot and killed at the scene after it became aggressive towards responders, the other was captured and tested negative for rabies.

The infant would survive the severe bites to her head face and hands, but investigators were looking into whether the raccoons were wild or were pets. After the investigation was completed, it turns out the baby’s father, 35-year-old Michael Wayne Cannon, had taken the two raccoons in and had bottle fed them since June.

A month before the attack he had placed the pair outside in the backyard. Since then, the raccoons had been getting into the house through open windows and side panels of window air conditioning units.…

Pack Of Dogs Maul Boy To Death In His Yard

November 16, 2010 at 3:28 pm by

Phenix City, AL — A 5-year-old boy walked out into his backyard Monday afternoon and was subsequently mauled to death by as many as 12 dogs. I know I have a reputation of hating the pit bull breed because I seem to only post stories dealing with pits, but hey, when local news outlets start reporting on Labradors and cocker spaniels killing people, it is what it is. But in this case, the dogs that killed Cason Bryant were mixed-breed and none were pit bulls.  He was at home with a babysitter when he walked out into his fenced yard where his family owned one dog. The other 11 reportedly belonged to a neighbor and had somehow gotten through the fence. Bryant suffered numerous, severe bite marks and despite the efforts of two neighbors who performed CPR on him, Bryant would be pronounced dead at the hospital. Other neighbors reported that dogs have been roaming the area the last few weeks. Although they cannot determine which of the dogs actually bit Bryant, all of them were captured and all of them will likely be euthanized.…

Teenager Rescues Boy From Pit Bull Attack

November 8, 2010 at 9:11 am by

GRANT, MI — A Michigan teenager proved that teens can do more than eat all of your food or create obscenely high Verizon Wireless bills when he was credited with saving a boy being attacked by a pit bull. Ishmael Melton, 13, his 12-year-old brother Solomon, and 11-year-old sister Arianna were shooting basketball in the neighborhood when they were confronted with a pit bull. The dog attacked Ishmael and began chewing on his leg, causing injuries that would require a dozen stitches. It could’ve been much worse had it not been for 16-year-old Ivan Kern who was walking nearby. He heard Arianna’s screams for help and ran to Ishmael’s aide, punching the dog in the jaw until it let go and putting it into a choke hold until Ishmael could get away. The dog is currently in the custody of animal control and belongs to a family who say it got out of the house when a family member was taking out the trash. They also added the dog had never shown any signs of being aggressive or bitten anyone before.…

COVINGTON, Ga. — A 9-month-old is currently in the hospital in critical condition after being attack by two raccoons while sleeping in a crib in the same room as her mother. Police arrived at the home sometime around 4 a.m. Wednesday after the mother called 911. The infant was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston suffering from severe bites to her head face and hands. The raccoons were still hanging around when officers arrived, one of them acting so aggressive that an officer shot and killed it. Animal control caught the other raccoon after it ran away and it tested negative for rabies. Investigators think the two animals got in through a window but are looking into the possibility of the two raccoons being kept as pets by the family. If the latter case turns out to be true, the family will possibly be looking at charges as keeping wild animals without a permit is illegal. The only part about this story that has me thinking they were pets is the fact that they were still hanging out when police got there…like they had nowhere else to go.…

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A family is suffering the loss of their son, 3-day-old Justin Valentin, after the family dog attacked and killed him. Mark Valentin, the boy’s father, doesn’t know how this could have happened. “My wife went to the restroom and the dog got to the baby. We’re not neglectful parents.” He says he has raised the dog since the day it was born, was a very nice and loving dog who was never beaten or showed any aggressive behavior towards neighbors or his 4-year-old son. Granted, the 4-year-old dog could have just thought the infant was a toy or something, but police who took the dog away from the home painted a different picture stating the dog was very aggressive. Well, until it was euthanized. Police, animal control officials and the Department of Children and Families are all investigating. “Our investigation will reveal if the incident was abuse, neglect or an accident,” said the DCF spokesman. Personally I don’t feel it was abuse, but how can leaving a days old infant alone with a dog be anything but neglect?…

San Diego, CA – Remember the terrible story we posted back in April about a 7-month-old baby boy whose testicles were chewed off after his mother left him alone, strapped in his carseat, in a room with an adult pit bull and 6-month-old weimaraner-pit bull mix? For those who don’t feel like clicking, the child was left unattended in the room for about 10 minutes while mom was elsewhere in the home. The younger dog apparently went sniffing around the infant’s diaper and ended up gnawing on the boy’s scrotum. The child lost both testicles and will forever be required to undergo hormone therapy. Mom, 22-year-old Carrie Rae McKinney, was eventually arrested and charged with felony child endangerment. At McKinney’s preliminary hearing last Friday, Judge Dennis McConaghy characterized the attack as nothing more than a terrible accident and dismissed the case. “I don’t see a crime here,” he said. Prosecutor Sasha Jones argued that McKinney should have known it was dangerous to leave her child unattended around “aggressively playful” dogs.…

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. — An 8-year-old girl was outside playing with friends when a neighbor’s pit bull ran through an open gate and began attacking her. Luckily for the girl, 75-year-old Gerald LaMonica was out walking and saw the dog attacking the little girl. “He had her on the ground and was just biting into her. She was screaming,” he said. So ignoring his own safety, LaMonica stepped in between her and the dog. “He came at me and I kicked him real hard right in the chest. He flew back for a second but he came right back again, and then he grabbed me,” he said. Both LaMonica and the girl are expected to be ok, although both suffered numerous bites and scratches. The owner of the dog, Laura Langston, said 2-year-old Tigger has never attacked anyone before and probably thought her daughter was in danger because of all the kids that were out playing. “I feel real bad, and if I could change it, I could. But, I can’t,” she said.…

Rusk County, Texas – Well it has been one hell of a week and I am a bit behind with some stories, so I’m just gonna post some of the ones I had been working on before the site started acting like a bitch. Starting with the story out of Texas where a jury returned a $7 million verdict against the owners of two pit bulls that mauled 10-year old Justin Clinton to death last year. He had been riding his skateboard to a friend’s house when the two dogs chased after him, dragged him to the side of the road, and then killed him. The trial found that the dog’s owners, Ricky and Christy George, were negligent and hopefully sent out a wake-up call to owners of these kinds of dogs. Justin’s mother is working to draft legislation called Justin’s Law that doesn’t focus on banning dangerous breeds, but rather holds the owners legally responsible for their dog’s actions. Personally, I like it and I hope it passes. Maybe after a couple of these judgments are handed down, people who have to own these kinds of dogs will take that responsibility a little more seriously.…

OH, NO! NOT THE BEES! NOT THE BEES! AAAAAHHHHH!

September 9, 2010 at 2:29 pm by

DOVER, N.H. — If I were posting this story as an excuse to make a Nicholas Cage reference, trust me when I say I would admit it. But the reality of it is that I hate bees. I’m sure by now a lot of you may have come to the conclusion that I’m not a fan of pretty much any living creature aside from myself. But the truth is that I’m just not a fan of being attacked by any other living creature…especially bees. Wasps and yellow jackets to be more specific as those fuckers are insane. Some sixth-grade students at Dover Middle School found this out while on a field trip in the woods near the school after a student stepped on a nest. The angry residents immediately swarmed the group. The students were chased all the way back to the school, some of the bees ending up in the nurses office. Although eleven students were stung, one of them over 25 times, none suffered any severe effects.…
