Bethesda Buys Fallout 3

Oh, boy. The makers of gems such as Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion now own the Intellectual Property rights of Fallout. Interplay has sold the Fallout IP to Bethesda.

Under the SECA filing:

“the Company sold all of its rights to the IP to Bethesda for a total amount of $5,750,000.00 payable to the Company, subject to various conditions, in three cash installments. The first installment of $2,000,000.00 was paid following closing when $200,000.00 was paid to the Company and $1,800,000.00”

Fallout 3 is well underway, and a Fallout MMO is slated for production. If the MMO gets made, Interplay will also give Bethesda 12% of the revenue.

Fallout 1 and 2 are both in my top 5 RPG games of all time list. I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high, but this is Bethesda, and this is Fallout.…

Panel Rules Homicide In Fetus Slaying

April 12, 2007 at 12:58 pm by

Illinois – More details are being released in regards to the murder of Jimella Tunstall and her three children.

Friend of the family, Tiffany Hall, clubbed the pregnant Tunstall in the head repeatedly with a table leg, dragged her into a bathtub and then cut her fetus from the womb. Mrs. Hall then drowned all three of Mrs. Tunstall’s children in the same bathtub, 2-year-old Ivan Tunstall-Collins, 1-year-old Jinela Tunstall and 7-year-old, DeMond Tunstall.

The grisly details in the September slayings were revealed at a hearing where a coroner’s jury concluded that the deaths were homicides.

Hall admitted to investigators that she “had been thinking about taking the baby for some time” before actually going through with it. Hall confessed to her boyfriend who then notified police, who then found Tunstall’s body in a plastic container behind the residence. The 3 children were later discovered in the washer and dryer of Tunstall’s apartment. Investigators had searched the apartment before, but had not looked in those locations for the missing children.…

20GB PS3 is Dead

For those of you who have always made the point that the 360 is $200 cheaper than the PS3, you are finally correct. Sony has pulled the plug on its 20GB PS3. Oh, sure, they are denying it when posed this way, but the unit has been pulled from retailers, from the Sony Style website, and has been selling at 10 to 1 against.

Am I the only person celebrating this move, and hoping that Microsoft will follow suit? As the 360 elite nears release, we are going to have 3 SKU’s to chose from. That is more consoles than Nintendo and Sony combined. I personally want my consoles to be simple. No thinking required. They should be a place of solace away from my confusing computer, with its 10 versions of Vista and billions of hardware configurations.

The only change these consoles should make is to keep upgrading the hard drives. This is no different than the larger-capacity memory cards that have always come out over the lifetime of a console.…

GNotW: Diabetes Cured?

April 11, 2007 at 5:04 pm by

ImageShackGood News of the Week dept: Two independent groups have found success with two very different methods of curing diabetes. That’s right, CURING it.

From poster MadAnthonyWayne at Sciforums.com: ” a team of American and Brazilian Scientists have actually cured diabetes in 13 of 15 humans their treatment was tried on.

They used chemotherapy to knock out the white blood cells that were killing the cells in the pancreas that produce insulin and then injected stem cells culled from the patient’s own blood to help regenerate the Beta cells. 11 of 15 patients achieved an immediate cure.

Two more were able to stop using insulin after about a year, but one suffered a viral infection and is now back on insulin.

It’s fascinating that we now have two potential cures using completely different methods. The American/Brazilian method makes more sense in terms of the traditional understanding of Type 1 diabetes, but if the other treatment also pans out, this could really be a great time.”

I spoke with a guy who got an early viewing and was agog about this film.  He stressed that this was not just another disaster movie, it was thought-provoking and classy.  He said to make sure that this one is seen on the big screen.  And light butter.  Always light on the butter.…

Husband Wanted in Fire Attack

April 11, 2007 at 9:09 am by

KINSTON, N.C. — Juanita Natasha Kinsey, 37, was burned over 40 percent of her body after her husband, Timothy Kinsey, 43, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire.

Juanita, who worked helping domestic abuse victims, was in critical condition Monday with second- and third-degree burns in Jaycee Burn Center at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Juanita Kinsey’s 14-year-old son, Timarcus Carraway, was also burned when gasoline splashed on him and when he used a coat to try to put out the flames burning his mother.

Police were trying to find Timothy Kinsey, 43, whom they believed was in Lenoir or Jones County and has served time in state prison for receiving stolen property and for drug possession, according to state records.…

Why am I posting this? Because I’m sick of reading in other forums about how stupid Americans are. You’ve seen the videos of biased reporters asking drunk homeless men where Uzbekistan is, and pretending that this is an indictment of American intelligence, right? Well here is a British TV show which is astounded when the force of some jet turbines blow cars over backwards.

Um. Newton’s 3rd law of motion states that for every action, there should be an equal and opposite reaction. Those turbines are pushing a jumbo jet full of hundreds of people FORWARD. Through the AIR, even. The force of those engines is evident in their everyday use. They are doing just as much work in both directions.

This is an older video, but it is making the rounds at other forums, like Gizmodo, and they should be ashamed.…

GTA, Jesus Style!

April 10, 2007 at 8:12 pm by

I know that one of the Ten Commandments is “Thou Shalt Not Steal”, but that didn’t stop Jesus from sending his posse out to jack a jackass. That’s right, it is in the Bible and everything. Jesus sent his homies out to steal him a swank sled for his gangsta-ride into Jerusalem. Here’s the text from Luke:

29And it came to pass, when he was come nigh to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount called the mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples,

30Saying, Go ye into the village over against you; in the which at your entering ye shall find an ass tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither.

31And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him.

32And they that were sent went their way, and found even as he had said unto them.

33And as they were loosing the ass, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the ass?…

Guitar Hero 3 for Wii/PS3/360 in 2007!

April 10, 2007 at 7:19 pm by

Oh, boy. I am a carpal-tunnel-suffering Guitar Hero freakazoid. Any Guitar Hero news will be making the front page, for sure. And this one is big. Even though Guitar Hero 2 for the PS2 just shipped this year, and GH2 for the 360 only recently hit store shelves, there is already word about GH3 due out this fall.

Rapturous joy!

This looks to be a next-gen only affair, but with the large PS2 install base, I wouldn’t be surprised if a disc-only version hit for that older console as well. It will be interesting to see which systems get a wireless axe*, and if any of them have technical difficulties like the current 360 one has suffered.

The End (of war) is Near!

April 10, 2007 at 5:36 pm by

Good news of the week, this second week of April, 2007: The end of war and conflict is approaching.

ImageShackImageShack

The graph on the left is a chart of world political systems. You can see what the Cold War really meant by this graph. It wasn’t play-time, it was a major world war of ideologies. Democracy won out. Now look at the graph on the right, this is a chart of world conflicts. Look at how the two charts oppose each other. Check out that dotted vertical line, that is the Berlin Wall coming down. (it is obvious that the turning point was before this, and the wall coming down was a lagging sign of the collapse, and not the actual cause of the collapse)…

Quake III: Team Arena Coming To Xbox 360?

April 10, 2007 at 1:15 pm by

Rumors of Quake III becoming part of the Xbox Live Arcade line-up have been stirring after America’s Entertainment Software Ratings Board (ESRB) had a listing on its website that showed that Quake III: Team Arena was submitted for rating and earned itself a ‘Mature’ rating.

The ESRB listing also showed the publisher as Pi Studios, instead of Activision, the same publisher which publishes the PC version of the game. Pi Studios is a Dallas based game developer who has worked on a number of Call of Duty projects for Activision and is developing the editor for Halo 2 Vista along with a PS2 port of Mercenaries 2.

There has been no official statements from any of the mentioned companies, but if this rumor turns out to be true, I will have no issues spending 800 points on it.…
