In The Mean Time...

Hey, wondering where we went? No worries, we are just changing format and conducting some testing before we flip the switch. For now, you can get all of our new stuff by clicking here.. We aren't quite ready to switch quite yet, but the end result will be a continuous flow of dark and often day-wrecking content from our regular authors as well as other members. It's a work in progress and we are still working on some design and function stuff, but the updated content is now coming through.

The Bionic Woman

May 15, 2007 at 10:50 am by

Premieres: September 1, 2007
Show Categories: Drama, Science-Fiction
Cast: Michelle Ryan (EastEnders); Mae Whitman (State of Grace); Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica); Miguel Ferrer (Crossing Jordan); Chris Bowers (Rescue Me); Will Yun Lee(Witchblade); Molly Price (Third Watch)

Well, the people that brought you a newer, realer Battlestar Galactica are at it again. This time they are going to tackle the ’70s show, The Bionic Woman. In the updated tale, Jaime Sommers will be played by Michelle Ryan. A bartender who is also raising her teenage sister. After suffering a devastating accident, the only thing that can save her is some medical procedures of the top secret kind. It involves giving her two bionic legs, a bionic arm and a bionic eye.

This procedure comes at a price that will undoubtedly involve Jaime Sommers stopping crime or thwarting enemies with her newly acquired assets, while still managing her own life…or something like that.

Michelle Ryan may already be familiar to some as the actress in the British soap-opera, Eastenders, but if you are like me, I have never heard of her before.…

Half-Life 2: Episode Two Preview

May 14, 2007 at 11:37 pm by

Shacknews has posted an article detailing their hands-on preview of the follow up to Half-Life 2: Episode One. Along with some new screens, it is also full of spoilers, so if you do not want any of the story, new features or enemies revealed, I do not recommend reading it.

But let me say…I am such a nerd. I cannot wait to fight the Hunters that will make their debut in this installment. These guys are tiny versions of the larger Striders that were in the previous chapters. Early reports stated that the Hunters would hunt in packs, work together tactically to eliminate you from flanking to even gaining better ground if you have found cover. From this article, it seems as if they were not exaggerating.

It also talks about the new muscle car you will be driving in the games, as well as Alyx and her improvements. Alyx was a great example of how a sidekick should operate in a game like this, and now she is back again with more improvements, including being equipped with a boosted AI that will help her in the new arena style battles she will be taking place in such as taking cover, blind shots, etc.…

Boy, 11, Killed by Friend’s Father

May 14, 2007 at 1:49 pm by

HOUSTON – 58-year-old Raymond Shaw, a man who has been in poor health and whose wife passed away a few years ago, came home to find a group of boys in his house. The boys were there to see Raymond’s 13-year-old son. Raymond ordered all of the juveniles out of his house, but one boy, 11-year old Jonathan Dixon, allegedly pushed Raymond and cussed him before leaving.

Raymond then did what any of us would have done at that point, he grabbed his sawed-off shotgun, followed the boy into the yard, and then shot him in the back of the head.

Neighbors were able to get the gun away from Raymond as he was trying to reload.

Shaw is being held in the Harris County Jail with bail set at $50,000.

Sony Facing an Uphill Climb?

May 14, 2007 at 1:28 pm by

The LA Times has posted an article in regards to the PS3 and the fact it seems to be struggling in it’s efforts to get out of last place in the next-gen console wars. It does mention the fact that the PS2 suffered a similar situation, but after cheaper production costs led to cheaper consoles, and a few PS2 only game titles, they were back in business…and still are to this day.

Is that going to be the case with the PS3? Is it just a late bloomer? Some do not think so. With a reported loss of $240 per console already, a price cut at this point does not seem too likely. Even with the reported cheaper lasers saving Sony $100 per console, there is no guarantee that this will be passed on to the consumer.

There is also the fact that the PS3 just does not have any games that are must-haves. With GTA being released on the 360 and possibly even the next Final Fantasy seeing a multi-platform release, Sony has not given anyone a real reason to quit using their current consoles, including the PS2.…

Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed

May 14, 2007 at 10:45 am by

Just a heads-up for any of you who may be interested, but The History Channel will be airing a two-hour documentary on Star Wars called Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed.

From their press release:

Through interviews with politicians, academics, journalists and critics – all of whom weigh in on the enduring appeal of George Lucas’ creations – the special demonstrates that Star Wars isn’t just a high-action adventure in space. It’s a remarkably complex and sophisticated story about power, politics, sin, spirituality and redemption—almost Shakespearean in its power, humor, presentation and influence.”

The episode will air on Monday, May 28th at 9:00 pm and again on May 29th at 1:00 am.

Spiderman 4 Villains?

May 14, 2007 at 10:16 am by

Freeze Dried Movies is reporting that a 100 percent reliable source, the same source that told them that the Spiderman 3 villain would be Venom, has told them that the villains for the 4th installment of the Spiderman franchise will be Carnage, The Lizard and possibly Black Cat.

As with the part 3, the theme of merging past villains with new ones will continue. I am not surprised with the two choices and I am so glad The Lizard will be making his debut. Aside from Doctor Octopus, the Lizard was my favorite villain.

They had pretty much set things up for Carnage already with the piece of symbiote that Dr. Curt Connors had was shown and then never mentioned again.

Anyone else think this is good news? If only they could get rid of Kirsten Dunst…say she had gotten a job in France or something…

When I read that Mike Patton’s record label, Ipecac Recordings, would be releasing Goon Moon’s Licker’s last Leg, I was pretty damn excited. Not just because Ipecac is home to some of my favorite groups, but because it was a pretty good sign that the next Goon Moon album was going to be somtehing I had not heard before. It didn’t let me down.

First off, Goon Moon is a group formed by two well-known, seasoned vetrans of the music scene; Jeordie White aka Twiggy Ramirez (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle, Marilyn Manson) and Chris Goss (Queens of the Stone Age, Masters of Reality). In the case of Licker’s last leg, they are joined by the likes of Zach Hill (Hella, Team Sleep), Josh Homme (Kyuss, Queens of the Stone Age, Eagles of Death Metal), Dave Catching (Eagles of Death Metal, Yellow #5), and Josh Freese (The Vandals, A Perfect Circle).…

Houston – Initially, Katherine Nadal, 25, had told social workers that when she had awoken from a nap, she found her 3-month-old son, Holden Gothia, had been attacked by her miniature dachshund. The injuries were a gash on the boy’s upper leg and missing genitals. A vet and a doctor later disputed these claims because no blood or human tissue were found in the dogs mouth.

Police are now saying that Katharine used a sharp instrument to cut off the boy’s genitals. Nadal has a history of prescription drug abuse and tested positive for cocaine and methadone the day after the incident.

She has been charged with injury to a child and held on $100,000 bail and her parental rights are in the process of being terminated. The boy will have to go future re constructive surgeries and is currently in the custody of relatives.

A guilty verdict has been delivered. Jurors deliberated for about eight hours before delivering the verdict against Juan Luna on all seven counts of first-degree murder. The same jurors will reconvene on Monday for the death penalty phase of case.

In March of 2002, Anne Lockett implicated her former boyfriend, James Degorski, and his associate, Juan Luna, in the crime. Artist Spotlight: Weedeater

May 11, 2007 at 10:48 am by

VocalsBass: Dave “Dixie” Collins
Guitar: Shep
Drums: Keko

As some may have noticed, I love DoomSludge metal with a side of Stoner Rock. But when it comes to Southern Doom, nothing beats the boys from my state of North Carolina, the filthy outcasts, Weedeater.

A three peice sludge/doom band hailing from Wilmington, these guys have some of the most evil sounding vocals backed by some syrupy riffs and a punching bass it could force your bowels to loosen involuntarily, these guys are untouchable when it comes to Southern doom. Their plodding music hits like fists of anvil and while the southern vibe is there, it is not a predominant one.

It was just recently announced in April that the band was signed to the awesome Southern Lord Records, and their new album called Good Speed and God Luck has been recorded and will be released sometime this summer. Until then, check out their 2001 debut album, And Justice for Y’all or their 2002 followup, Sixteen Tons, produced by legendary Billy Anderson.…

Artist Spotlight: Hazard County Girls

May 10, 2007 at 5:31 pm by

Hazard County Girls
Best described as Southern Stoner Gothic, Hazard County Girls started with drummer Sharon Heather and guitarist/singer Christy Kane. Friend and White Zombie bass player, Sean Yseult, stood in on bass until they could find a permanent member. Sean ended up contributed bass lines for a few of the songs Christy and Sharon had written, and eventually recorded their first demo. Jennifer K. joined the band as the permanent bass player in 2002 and their first album “Never No More” was recorded and produced by Daniel Rey (Ramones, Misfits, White Zombie).

Their follow-up album, “Divine Armor“, was recorded in 2005. Initially self-released, Hazard County Girls signed up with Crustacean Records who in turn re-released the album with better distribution.

A couple reviews…

“The day of the heavy metal trio returns with Hazard County Girls, the guitar-bass-drums ensemble from New Orleans. Taking as their inspiration Blue Cheer and Black Sabbath, singer/guitarist Christy Kane, bassist Jennifer K., and drummer Sharon Heather play heavy rock with loud, distorted riffs and pummeling beats.

I was a HUGE fan of the old PC game “Interstate ’76”. Sadly, this game is not an extension of that franchise, but it involves driving, guns, and takes place in the year 1976. Good enough for me.

The gameplay is similar to previous Driver games, but there is more of a GTA feel to them this time around. I loved the original Driver on the PS1, to this day it is the best action driving game I ever played. The follow-ups were hollow for me and GTA eventually took over my playtime. What GTA games never did right, though, is the driving. And this is where Driver ’76 fills a desperate need for me.

If it weren’t for the PSP analog nub, this game would be ideal. I hope it sells well enough that the big consoles get a port. Or whoever owns the Interstate ’76 IP sees this game selling well and makes a proper sequel to that old favorite of mine. Until then, I’m going to put my ‘fro back on and go shoot some jive turkeys.…
