The GalCiv Diaries

May 20, 2007 at 8:07 am by

This is mandatory reading for all of our members. So many laugh-out-loud moments and so much excitement, it will have you looking for a copy of this wonderful game as soon as you finish reading.

A sample:

Who would have thought repeatedly angering and insulting the most powerful race in the galaxy while completely defenceless could have consequences? Who could have known that refusing to end a war with a military over a hundred times the size of your own might lead to tactically tricky situations? Did any among us guess that attacking the heart of their empire with my only craft while the most populous planets in the galaxy lay unguarded might ultimately lead to my downfall?

I paced the war room in my underpants, puzzled.

Tennessee – While the news has been populated by what Britney Spears is doing with her hair, or whether Paris Hilton will see jail time for driving without a license – all newsworthy items, for sure – have you read about the case that is about to go to trial regarding a couple by the name of Channon Christian, a 21-year-old University of Tennessee student, and her 23-year-old boyfriend Christopher Newsom?

It’s amazing if you haven’t as it involves two young people being abducted, raped, tortured and murdered by another group of people in house in a Tennessee neighborhood. The investigation into their deaths led to the arrest of Lemaricus Davidson, 25; his brother, Letalvis Cobbins, 24; George Thomas, 24; and Cobbins’ former girlfriend, Vanessa Coleman, 18, and Eric Boyd, 34.

Even more details have been trickling out in the manner of Channon and Christopher’s death. Christopher was gang-raped, possibly had his genitals cut off, shot and burned. Blizzard to Announce Starcraft 2?

May 17, 2007 at 1:00 pm by

Well, it looks as if we may be seeing a Starcraft 2. Rumors are flying on the eve of Blizzard making some sort of “secret game” announcement in front of a large group of South Korean gamers at their Worldwide Invitational. Another MMORPG is probably not in the cards as WoW is doing exceptional already. Also, some have pointed out the newly registered is now up. Also, last year, Blizzard Chief Operation Officer Paul Sams stated that there will be a “major project announcement in 2007” as well as

“StarCraft is my absolutely favorite game of all time. As you probably already know, there is no doubt that we will continue the StarCraft and Diablo franchise, and trust me, I will be the happiest person in the world when we announce StarCraft 2.”

Now obviously none of this truly means anything definite, as Blizzard has stayed quiet on the subject aside from letting everyone know about the announcement in general, but what do you think? Are all these Starcraft fanatics finally getting their wish after all these years?…

It’s been seven years since the Smashing Pumpkins played a live show, but that’s all about to change as the group debuts their comeback album, Zeitgeist.

The album hits the shelves on July 10th, but what remains unclear is exactly who is in the band. James Iha, D’arcy Wretzky and Melissa Auf der Maur (who replaced Wretzky), three of the original members, have stated they are not a part of this reunion. This leaves Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin. Both key members, for sure, but is this really a reunion? It seems more like Billy couldn’t make it solo, or with his last band, so is he just cashing in?

As a Smashing Pumpkins fan, I will be checking out the CD, just out of curiousity, but with Wretzky and James Iha out of the picture, I am having a hard time beleiving this will be anything but a Billy Corgan album.…

This outstanding young man is 17-year-old Anthony Miranda. He has been accused of biting his 5-week-old daughter, Salyne Miranda, multiple times on her back. Doctors also found she had a fractured skull, broken collar bone and a fractured arm. Anthony only admits to biting her. The reason? Aside from being mad at the girl’s 15-year-old mother,

“I was frustrated,” Miranda said. “I had a lot going on in my mind, and she was crying when I bit her.”

Anthony has now been charged with serious bodily injury to a child and the infant is now in foster care. When asked if he would try to get custody back, Anthony stated

“Of course, with all my heart,” he said. “That’s my first child.”

World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War (Hardcover)

Author: Max Brooks (Author)
Hardcover: 352 pages
Paperback: Yes
Publisher: Crown (September 12, 2006)

From Publishers Weekly:
Brooks, the author of the determinedly straight-faced parody The Zombie Survival Guide (2003), returns in all seriousness to the zombie theme for his second outing, a future history in the style of Theodore Judson’s Fitzpatrick’s War. Brooks tells the story of the world’s desperate battle against the zombie threat with a series of first-person accounts “as told to the author” by various characters around the world. A Chinese doctor encounters one of the earliest zombie cases at a time when the Chinese government is ruthlessly suppressing any information about the outbreak that will soon spread across the globe. The tale then follows the outbreak via testimony of smugglers, intelligence officials, military personnel and many others who struggle to defeat the zombie menace. Despite its implausible premise and choppy delivery, the novel is surprisingly hard to put down. The subtle, and not so subtle, jabs at various contemporary politicians and policies are an added bonus.

Motive Unclear in Infant Mutilation

May 15, 2007 at 12:24 pm by

Katherine Nadal, the mother accused of completely severing off her infants sons genitals, was in court today. After a $100,000 bail was set she informed District Judge Denise Collins that “I don’t have the means. My family doesn’t have the means” when asked if she could post bail. She was appointed an attorney, Allen Isbell, but no motive has been given for the attack.

The father stated that the baby had colic for a few days and had been crying a lot, and Katharine tested positive for cocaine, methadone and a mild tranquilizer the day after the attack. The father has also terminated his relationship with Katherine and is attempting to get sole custody of the boy, who is currently in the custody of an Aunt. He was released to this family member after multiple surgeries. The severed parts were never found.
