A West Rockhill Township mom and dad have been charged with seven felony counts of endangering the welfare of their children, according to reports.
Shane William Robertson, 47, and his wife, Crystal, 37, were arrested and later released after posting bond.
According to a report published by the Bucks County Courier Times, police became aware of the family's living conditions after responding to a theft report in April at a mobile home park. Police subsequently filed a report with ChildLine, the state's child abuse reporting system.
Police returned to the home several hours later after a Bucks County Children and Youth worker visited the home, said the newspaper. Six girls and one boy were taken to Grand View Hospital for an evaluation based on their physical appearance.
Two of the children tested positive for COVID-19, two had low kidney function and three had fevers and were diagnosed with acute viral syndrome. They were placed in foster care, according to the report. It was later discovered that all but one were clinically malnourished. One of the girls had maggots in her hair and another had ringworm, the report says.
It was also learned that none of the children had ever attended school.

Police photographed the trailer, documenting unwashed sheets, holes in the wall and floors strewn with dirty clothing and garbage, according to the report.
One bedroom, the report says, had one filthy mattress covered with a dirty blanket and feces on it. Rats were also kept in cages in the room.

According to the report, police said they found no food in the house except for the animals, which included two dogs, two turtles, two rabbits, snakes and toads.

Inside the mouth of the 6-year-old boy, doctors found 13 visible cavities, five teeth requiring immediate extraction, another six teeth that required crowns and a “dangerous” abscess needing immediate treatment.

His 8-year-old sister, authorities say, needed five teeth pulled and five others were fitted with crowns.
Maggots were living in their 12-year-old sister’s hair. The youngest sibling, just 4 years old, had ringworm. All but one of the seven children was also clinically malnourished, according to court documents.

None of the siblings, the oldest of which was 16, had ever attended school. All were found living in a three-bedroom mobile home in Sellersville with destroyed and disintegrating walls and floors, bugs and a locked refrigerator, according to authorities.
Some of the children did not know their birthdays. None of them liked being around people.

What was going inside a trailer at the Green Top Mobile Home Park was only discovered after a neighbor allegedly saw children removing items from an abandoned trailer and called police. All allegations were included in court documents.
Soon after the children were removed from their parents custody, the full extent of their neglect was revealed, authorities said.
Four of the children have speech impediments. Four were so underweight they were referred to a nutritionist at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. CHOP doctors diagnosed four of the children with poor eyesight requiring glasses.
Police also learned the 12-year-old whose hair was infested with maggots had bad sunburn on her scalp and neck last summer, which made it too painful to brush, police said. She eventually couldn’t brush or wash her hair because it became matted.

As a result, the girl had to have most of her hair shaved off. Another sister also had to have most of her hair shaved for similar matting, police said.

Not one iota of education. How will the older kids ever catch up?

I'm pretty sure they won't. The ones younger than 10 maybe, younger than 6 most likely will, if they haven't been completely stunted by their "parents".

The matted hair and no one cared enough to help her brush it. Grandmonkey's hair is so curly that her's gets tangled really bad in the back, cause she doesn't brush what she can't see, I get the tangles out, and she don't like it, but it has to be done if she don't won't her head shaved.

Just when you think nothing can get worse, it goes and does. :( Poor kids.

Authorities became aware of the family when Pennridge Regional Police Department responded to a theft report in the 600 block of Rosann Lane on April 23. There they found a 12-year-old girl in the front yard of a mobile home next door to where the theft was reported.
The girl began explaining to the officers that her parents told them not to go into the abandoned trailer, but she only took a blanket to keep her pet rats warm because her parents didn’t have much money left, according to a probable cause affidavit.

She also told police, “her parents should not be held responsible,” the affidavit said.
The girl was described as barefoot. The hood of her sweatshirt was over her head and she told the officers she has “social anxiety.”

Minutes later, her 14-year-old sister came out from the rear of the property. She was wearing dirty clothing and work boots that were too big for her feet, the affidavit said.
Both girls admitted to entering the trailer, and mentioned that they do not have very much money.

About 25 minutes later, police spoke to Shane Robertson on the phone and he and his wife returned to the property. The officers advised the couple they had concerns about the health of their daughters based on their appearances and asked to look inside of the trailer.
Shane Robertson let the officers in where police described the interior as in “obvious disrepair and disarray.” They also found the refrigerator door secured with a bicycle lock.
Crystal Robertson explained that the children had been going through so much food they had to lock the refrigerator “because they were stealing everything,” the affidavit said.

“Garbage disposals with legs,” is how she described the children to police.

When the refrigerator was opened, police found “very little” food inside.

One of the officers asked Shane Robertson how many children were living in the home. He called for his 16-year-old daughter who was in a back bedroom.

Police described her appearance as unkempt. She told the officers she heard them outside, but was watching the youngest child.

After the officers left the home, they filed a report with ChildLine, the state’s child abuse reporting system.

Several hours later, Pennridge police were asked to return to the home, after a Bucks County Children and Youth worker visited the home and found more children hiding in a rear bedroom, police said.

This time, Shane Robertson allegedly told police he didn’t tell them he had seven children because he didn’t want to get in trouble. The six girls and one boy were taken to Grand View Hospital for evaluation based on their physical appearance.

Around 7 that evening, police met with Crystal Roberterson and photographed the entire trailer. They found the lower half of the bathroom door missing. The Robertsons slept on a bed surrounded by animal cages. The sheets did not appear to be washed for weeks or months. There was garbage in the room and holes in the wall.

A second bedroom did not have a door and it was blocked off with a broken washing machine. The floor was cluttered with dirty clothing and garbage and missing sheetrock on the wall, which needed repair, police said.

The third bedroom had only a “filthy” mattress in the middle of the room covered with a “dirty” blanket with feces on it. There was also feces in the entrance to the room. Two dozen rats in cages were also housed in the room.

In addition to the rats, police also found the family had two dogs, two turtles, two rabbits, snakes, toads and a four-foot Tegu reptile also living in the trailer. Police stated the only “notable food” found in the trailer was for the animals.

Feces really should be used as a fertility drug .

ing an abandoned trailer and taking items. What police allegedly discovered afterwards at that trailer park home in Sellersville is the stuff of nightmares.

After the Pennridge Regional Police Department responded to the scene, they said that their first move was ensuring the seven children found living in filthy conditions surrounded by animals were placed in protective custody.

“April 23rd 2023 at approximately 130 pm officers responded to the 800 block of Roseann Lane for a report of two juveniles entering an abandon trailer,” the Pennridge Regional Police Department said. “Upon further investigation it was determined that the children resided in a home nearby. Bucks County Children and Youth responded to address concerns of the officers on scene, resulting in seven children being taken into protective custody.”

Crystal Roberston, 37, and Shane Robertson, 47, have since been accused of keeping their seven children in isolation and filth at their Green Top Trailer Park home — without formally educating any of the victims.

Any human being who would say that about their own children, even in jest, is undeserving of looking after any children at all.

REMINDER: Many people who express such criticisms out loud about others are oftentimes projecting what they know about themselves to be fact, but are too afraid to admit or do anything about. So, who is the real "garbage disposal with legs" here?

@thuumpr. Did you get the impression these parents were intellectually disabled?
Those kids are loyal to their parents. And they seem like good kids.

Police contact with a barefoot child:

"“JV3 continued by stating she was only taking a blanket to keep her rats warm because her family does not have much money left.”"

". The girl’s father allegedly told police that the teen was the last daughter he had, when in fact he had three more daughters and a son."

JV6 and JV7 were “clinically underweight” and JV6, the 6-year-old boy, had a “dangerous abscess in his mouth” and “13 visible cavities.”

“The only notable food located in the home was for the animals,” investigators said.

" JV1, JV2, JV3, and JV5 were deemed to have “poor eyesight” and in need of glasses, and JV3 had maggots in her hair, cops said."

"Investigators found “two dogs, two turtles, two rabbits, snakes, toads, and a four-foot reptile known as a Tegu inside the home, along with the approximately two dozen rats,” documents said."

God in heaven, this is a Tegu:

I disagree. I have said this, kind of proudly. I'm glad they have healthy appetites and enjoy a wide variety of good foods.
I've also called them raging hormones on legs.
If you haven't had tweenagers and teenagers you might not get it.
Not all of us use politically correct terminology, that does not make us unfit to raise kids.

Okay, she's got seven kids she probably gets both state money and perhaps child support for...apparently she's not investing in the kids or the home. WTF is she doing with the money? Drugs? Alcohol?
Judging from the article, the two oldest children are 16 and 14. How is it possible that they and the others were declared to the State to receive welfare benefits but not registered at any school? If this is indeed the case, there's a glaring lack of communication between government agencies and schools.

This isn't the first time I've heard parents accuse their children of "stealing" food and it probably won't be the last. Clearly, these children were nothing more than intruders in their own home. :(

Understandable. I'm not into "going too far" with someone disparaging one's own children, but I can understand that coarse jokes and grating dialogue can be a part of raising kids. If I had kids, I wouldn't say the things mentioned in the article, especially referring to them in any capacity as "trash" (that's the important part to me, the "trash" part, not necessarily the [insert here] on legs, which is fine), but as long as any attitudes or statements expressed from parent to child do not come from household conditions such as what is described in this article and its source.

You do you, and I appreciate the opinion you posted.

Is it just me or do mom and dad look incredibly alike?

I also have called my daughter a walking disposal system. That girl can eat like a maniac during a growth spurt. She will also come in the kitchen and say "I'm a hungry hungry hippo, what can we do about it?" But we are kidding.

These people's children were definitely hungry and while poverty is sad, she shouldve shut her legs a few kids back and skipped having any pets at all. The fact the pets had food and kids didn't tells the real story.

I hope the kids are getting to see each other. I doubt they found a foster family that could take all of them together and that's extra traumatic for children.

When my boys were being little shits, I would tell them that I was going to throw them out the window and lock it behind them, they'd just yell back, I'll just run around the house and come in the front door. But the one that got me in trouble was "if you don't quit I"m going to lock you in the closet to get you out from under my feet". Someone outside my family heard that one and she was clutching her pearls so hard that she broke them. But it wasn't a serious threat and the kids knew it. When threats like that are made the reaction of the kids should be taken into account, are the kids scared or they like "whatever mom"?

In this case "garbage disposals with legs" we really need more context to actually know if mom was teasing or if she was being serious.

I have to chime in on this one: my Mom, God love her, used to “joke” that she never wanted a daughter, she wanted three red-headed boys instead. Every time I heard that I was crushed, and years later when I told her how badly that comment had hurt me she seemed a little surprised, as if I would have somehow known at the age of five or six, that she was joking.
I still don’t find it particularly funny, but maybe being called a garbage disposal on legs is meant in a good way.

My Mom was firmly in your camp when we were teens. Sarcastic and fully fluid in flippancy that one was/is, still! ;)

My Mom used to say "Girls are such so emotional, it would have been a lot easier to have had four boys instead of two and two!" And my sister and I would look at each other and just die a little bit inside. Finally, when we were teens I asked my Mom if she had any idea how hateful that sounded to Kate and me. That was in 1986, she's still crushed by that question. She didn't mean to insult us, she was stating what, to her, was obvious. BTW, when her boys hit adulthood and she learned what real drama is...

What I don’t understand, wouldn’t you know by baby #2 that you’re a useless, lazy piece of cr*p, so you should maybe stop popping more out? Buy a condom, you don’t have to feed a condom for 18 years.

I wish she said it in a playful way. The filthy conditions make me think she was overwhelmed and serious.
This, pretty much.

And, this.

do they got some of that Roman Catholic going up in there, or just, dumb woman + a shitty man who wants to roll down the Irresponsible Interstate and thinks he's too good to put on a jimmy hat?

It's okay to have a million kids (maybe even a good thing), but, not like THAT, it ain't. Make a real family with that shit, not a maggot-infested horror show.

You're welcome for the earworm :D

So many stories I read where the parents keep having kids and then keep them in conditions not fit for maggots. I just don't understand it. Meanwhile there are healthy, happy couples/singles desperate for children and would be ecstatic to raise these children in loving and nurturing homes.

Pennsylvania parents of seven children were already facing serious child endangerment charges following the discovery of their house of horrors months ago, but now the suspects have to contend with new assault charges filed by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office.
The new charges filed on Sept. 25 stem from interviews of children JV1 (a 16-year-old girl), JV2 (a 14-year-old girl), JV3 (a 12-year-old girl), JV4 (a 10-year-old girl), JV5 (an 8-year-old girl), JV6 (a 6-year-old boy), and JV7 (a 4-year-old girl), in the aftermath of their April 23 rescue from the Sellersville trailer park home.

JV1, the eldest child, allegedly told authorities that her father punched her in the face back in February, bloodying her nose. When the victim tried to run away, Shane Robertson chased after her and dragged her back to the home by her hair in front of her siblings, the affidavit said.
JV2 said both Shane and Crystal Robertson “beat us up,” according to cops.
“She reported that Shane Robertson, her father, was more physically abusive than Crystal Robertson, her mom, but that both would hit and injure the children,” the affidavit said. The victim said that her mother beat her with her dad’s belt.

JV2 also said that her father once threatened to “suffocate” her.
“JV2 reported that Shane and Crystal were arguing, and Crystal told Shane, ‘do whatever you want, kill them if you want,'” court documents say. “Shane then took a ‘brown, fluffy’ blanket and held it tightly over JV2’s face, impeding JV2’s ability to breathe.”

Cops said that other siblings, including JV5, remembered hearing her sister gasping for breath.
JV2 further told cops that her father once gave her a knife and told her to go in the bathroom and stab herself. On another occasion, the child said, her father told her to kill herself behind a shed on the property.

The victim allegedly said her parents punched the children in the face and left them with black eyes.

“JV2 described one incident where Shane struck her, leaving her eye ‘fluffy, black, and blue,” the affidavit said.

JV3 allegedly told cops that her parents abused her JV1, JV2, and JV6 more frequently and harder than the other children.

“JV3 described one incident in or around September of 2022 where JV2 and JV3 took one of the family dogs outside, and the dog was ultimately struck by a car,” the affidavit continued. “Shane and Crystal hit both JV2 and JV3, leaving welts.”
The girl also revealed that her mother would threaten to kill the children’s pet rats and that her father abused the siblings “basically our whole lives,” cops said.

“There would be times where Crystal would leave while Shane was beating the children, and Crystal would tell Shane to ‘have at it,'” JV3 told police, adding that JV6, the couple’s only son, was “beaten the worst.”
JV3 alleged that both parents used cords “or anything within their reach to strike the children,” including the suspects’ own hands.

JV4 recalled the starving children being beaten with cords, a belt, and hands when they took food from a refrigerator or their mother’s purse.

“As a result of the children ‘stealing’ the food, Shane would beat the children,” the affidavit said. “JV4 reported that these beatings would leave read marks, and JV6 would get welts.”
The girl said that her father hit both her and her younger brother in the face.

JV5 said “we got beat by daddy and mommy a lot,” but she said her siblings were hit harder than she was.
“JV5 described Shane leaving big red marks on JV6 after beating him. JV5 also described Shane striking JV2 with a cord and leaving a red mark,” the affidavit ended.

Investigators concluded that there was probable cause to charge Crystal Robertson with simple assault and conspiracy to commit simple assault, and probable cause to charge Shane Robertson with strangulation, simple assault and conspiracy to commit simple assault.
