A Long Island man tried to throw his elderly mother down their basement stairs, then bit and punched her several times before the battered woman was able to break free and call for help, police said Saturday.
Anil Khandpur is charged with attempted murder, assault, unlawful imprisonment and criminal obstruction of breathing for the Friday afternoon attack on his 82-year-old mother at their Hicksville home.
Police said Khandpur, 39, grabbed his mother when she came home around 3 p.m., dragged her to the top of the basement stairs and tried to chuck down the steps.
As the woman kicked herself free, Khandpur bit her on the cheek, then barricaded himself in a bedroom. Hours later, he emerged from the boudoir and punched his mother in the head several times. She managed to escape from the house and call 911, cops said.
