A pedestrian was killed and three other people injured – two seriously — when a massive construction crane collapsed in Lower Manhattan on Friday morning while it was being lowered as a precaution due to the wind, officials said.

David Wichs, 38, of West 81st Street, had been standing on the street when the crane crashed down on him, killing him, authorities said.

Damn, there's death every where you go, no matter what you're doing. There's no escaping the shit.
This site makes me paranoid as hell some times. Right now I'm looking around the office, trying to figure out what things can kill me...

Beware the stapler!

This damned cranes make me nervous. I don't know what the stats are but I've heard about a lot of accidents just like this one over the years. Yep, Rod, you just never know.

A bride-to-be getting her hair done down the block from the Friday morning crane collapse was escorted through the chaos by an FDNY chaplain, who then married the woman and her groom on the spot.

The impromptu wedding took place on the steps of the nearby Tweed Courthouse — the Department of Education headquarters — where Nesh Pillay, 25, and Aaron Vanderhoff, 27, had originally planned to take their wedding photos before tying the knot at City Hall at 10 a.m.

Some things are best watched from a nice, safe distance. It's weird how some people don't intuitively know this.

DIsgusting to see these people celebrating and prancing through the streets so close (in proximity and time) to where a horrible tragedy occurred. Weddings are bullshit.

After the media dragged the operator's name through the mud by dragging out and publishing the fact the guy had a DUI 30 years ago, now he's a hero!

Tribeca crane likely collapsed by 40-mph wind gust

A 40-mph Tribeca wind gust is the likely cause in the deadly toppling of a 330-ton crane, with investigators crediting its operator for saving lives in the wreck, sources said.

Construction worker Kevin Reilly was hailed for his efforts to steer the falling crane into the street rather than let the 565-foot piece of equipment slam into nearby buildings, said sources familiar with the ongoing investigation

Yep. They go whichever way the wind blows to generate the most attention to make money. They not-so-subtly implied the guy was probably drunk and irresponsible on the job. Just enough to avoid a libel suit. :meh:
