Defendant Not Guilty In Dungeon Rape Case

April 23, 2007 at 2:19 pm by

“The verdict says it all.” stated Kenneth Hinson after he was escorted from the courtroom. Kenneth Hinson, 48 was facing a mandatory life sentence after being charged with the kidnapping, assault with the intent to kill, and the rape of two teenagers he was supposedly holding captive in an underground dungeon he had built in the back of his residence. Kenneth had also been convicted of raping a 12 year old girl in 1991.

During the six day trial, Kenneth took the stand and explained that there was no kidnappings and that the sex between him and the two females was consensual. He also stated that the reason why the two girls were making up the story was all a rouse to get to the stash of marijuana he kept in the underground room they were supposedly being held captive in.

She Awoke to Find Feces in Her Vagina

April 19, 2007 at 9:23 am by

Jefferson County, TX — That sentence alone could almost turn the strongest of stomachs and the lawyers defending Dr. Donald Long, a doctor accused of performing a botched episiotomy, thought so too and decided to settle with Sara Wallace rather than let a jury hear it.

According to the Wallace’s, on Aug. 16, 2003, Sara Wallace was a patient at Mid-Jefferson Hospital in Nederland. Her physician was out of town when she went into early labor. The on-call doctor, Dr. Donald Long, was called in and delivered the baby in which he performed a third-degree episiotomy, a common medical procedure involving making cuts to the tissue between the anus and the vagina to aid in child birth.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, Mike McGown, states that after the procedure, Dr. Long stitched the wound but neglected to check for a rectovaginal fistula, a hole between the anus and vagina that is often the result of an episiotomy. He also neglected to inform the Wallaces that such a wound could form after procedure.

So you can imagine Sara’s surprise when she started having constant pain in her uterus region and eventually started passing stool through her vagina. …

Another professor in the Engineering, Science and Math Department who died in the recent tragedy at Virginia Tech. If you travel to the website for the ESM Department, they have a textual memoriam to both of these professors which lingers for 10 seconds before you enter the site. I think this is a lovely touch, very respectful, a way of generating silent contemplation without undue hysterics.

Seeing some faces and getting some names really puts this tragedy into perspective for me. I try to put myself in the place of these kids and faculty during the final moments of their lives, and it makes me feel hollow inside. The only weakness that a free society has is its ability to offer easy mayhem to those who wish it.

Go here to see the Memoriam that flashes up.

VT Update: 33 Dead, Another 20+ Injured

April 16, 2007 at 2:32 pm by

32 are now confirmed dead in this, the worst shooting in United States history. This is all taking place about an hour from my house, and police cars and ambulances have been seen rushing to Blacksburg to fill the void created by this horrible circumstance.

I have heard one report of a student who was in one of the classrooms the gunman entered. He claims that everyone in the room was shot and he fell to the ground and played possum among his dead and horrible wounded classmates. This type of story will be undoubtedly repeated many times over in the following weeks.

The only thing I have heard about the shooter is that he was a 20-something Asian student. It sounds like he was using two 9mm semi-automatic handguns, had a protective vest on, and lots of ammo. The crime was obviously pre-meditated as he also had chains and locks with him that he used to lock the main entrances from within the building. He then went room-to-room trying to get inside and shoot as many people as possible.…

CNN is reporting that three days before this incident, a bomb threat forced the cancellation of classes in three buildings on Friday. Also, the 100,000-square-foot Torgersen Hall was evacuated April 2 after police received a written bomb threat, The Roanoke Times reported.…

Chemical On Playground Equipment Burns Toddler

April 15, 2007 at 5:12 pm by

Maryland — Peyton Duschl, 2, was severely burned after he went down the slide at an elementary school playground. Seems as if someone had previously broken into the school, stole several bottles of industrial-strength drain cleaner and then proceeded to splash it all over the playground equipment.

Peyton suffered second and third-degree burns, mostly on his legs, from the cleaner which contains a strong concentration of sulfuric acid. He was with is grandmother who heard him screaming immediately after coming down the slide. He was rushed to the pediatric burn unit at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and was scheduled for surgery Sunday morning.

He will likely will be hospitalized for several weeks, said Carol Duschl, the boy’s mother.

Whoever is responsible probably also suffered burns, and could face charges of first-degree assault, burglary and destruction of property, said Sgt. Vickie Warehime, a county police spokeswoman. A hazardous materials team cleaned up the playground, using tens of thousands of gallons of water.

Update: Two unidentified 16-year-old boys were charged with reckless endangerment and second-degree burglary and released to their parents.…

Empire State Building Suicide Jump

April 14, 2007 at 2:34 am by

New York, NY — Moshe Kanovsky, 31, a lawyer, leaped to his death from a 69th-floor office at New York’s Empire State Building, severing a leg that crashed to the sidewalk in front of horrified onlookers. Mr. Kanovsky worked for the law firm Ashok Karmaker. It is being reported that Kanovsky met with a client in one room and jumped from another.

“He was interviewing a client,” said a man who works in the suite. “He just got up, opened the window and jumped.”

Several witnesses called 911 to report that a leg, severed below the knee, was on the ground by the building, bare except for a gray and black sock. The rest of Kanovsky’s body was found intact on a 30th-floor landing.

It wasn’t immediately clear what prompted Kanovsky’s suicide.

At least 30 people have jumped from the Empire State Building since it opened in 1931. Before Kanovsky, Dovid Abramowitz, 21, was the last to die. He leaped from the 66th floor on February 2, 2006, after buying a ticket to the 86th-floor observation deck.…

Panel Rules Homicide In Fetus Slaying

April 12, 2007 at 12:58 pm by

Illinois – More details are being released in regards to the murder of Jimella Tunstall and her three children.

Friend of the family, Tiffany Hall, clubbed the pregnant Tunstall in the head repeatedly with a table leg, dragged her into a bathtub and then cut her fetus from the womb. Mrs. Hall then drowned all three of Mrs. Tunstall’s children in the same bathtub, 2-year-old Ivan Tunstall-Collins, 1-year-old Jinela Tunstall and 7-year-old, DeMond Tunstall.

The grisly details in the September slayings were revealed at a hearing where a coroner’s jury concluded that the deaths were homicides.

Hall admitted to investigators that she “had been thinking about taking the baby for some time” before actually going through with it. Hall confessed to her boyfriend who then notified police, who then found Tunstall’s body in a plastic container behind the residence. The 3 children were later discovered in the washer and dryer of Tunstall’s apartment. Investigators had searched the apartment before, but had not looked in those locations for the missing children.…
