Halle MerrillIDAHO FALLS, ID – Here’s a nightmare story for those of you with young children. A 2-year-old girl died last week after being buried alive by snow that fell from the roof of a ski cabin.

Authorities say 2-year-old Halle Merrill was near her grandfather’s cabin with her seven-year-old sister and seven-year-old cousin, when a massive amount of snow slid off the cabin’s roof.

In a matter of seconds, the three children ended up being buried under several feet of snow and large chunks of ice.

Family members immediately began digging and first responders where there within minutes to join their efforts to save the three girls.

It took 25 minutes of digging before they found one of the older girls who had to be dragged out from under a 300 to 400 pound ice sheet. She was breathing, but in extreme pain.

Five minutes later, the other seven-year-old was found with no pulse and not breathing. Rescue workers began CPR and, a short time later, she began breathing on her own.…

Quasarano familyFENTON TWP, MI – Investigators say that the family of six that died from carbon monoxide poisoning “dropped in their spots” in different parts of the home.

On Friday night, the Quasarano family returned home from family movie night at Faith Baptist Church of Linden to find the high winds had knocked out power to their home.

So Leonard Quasarano ran out to Home Depot to pick up a 10,000 Watt generator that is attached to a 40-pound propane tank. The generator was cranked up after being set up in the home’s walk-out basement.

That night, or possibly the following morning, all six members of the family would die from carbon monoxide poisoning due to a lack of ventilation that caused the gas to build up inside. There were no carbon monoxide detectors in the home.

Their bodies would not be found until Sunday, after concerned family members stopped by the home to check on them. According to Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell, the family didn’t know what hit them and “dropped in their spots” throughout the home.…

wood chipperLEABURG, OR – I rarely post stories with happy endings, but I could not resist telling you all about a man in Oregon who survived being pulled head first into a wood chipper.

We have a slew of wood chipper related deaths reported on this site. Each one of them were horrific and one contained a term made by a medical examiner that I will never forget: total morselization.

But a man trimming trees last Friday beat the odds after he survived being pulled head first into a wood chipper. The man was feeding limbs into the machine when a harness he was wearing became entangled.

Before he was able to untangle himself, he was dragged head first into the wood chipper. However, the lucky son-of-a-bitch was saved from certain death when his leg tripped the safety bar that turned off the machine just as his helmeted head hit the blades.

The unidentified man, described only as being in his 20s, was taken to the hospital to treat a broken leg and a head injury, but he is expected to make a full recovery.…

Carmen 'Jackie' LindhardtSALT LAKE, UT – A 45-year-old employee at a Reams Food Store was killed yesterday morning after she was pulled into an industrial mixer.

Investigators say Carmen “Jackie” Lindhardt was using an industrial-sized bakery mixing machine inside the store when she was “caught up in the machinery, the augers,” said Sandy Police Sgt. Dean Carriger.

“It was possibly some loose clothing, or she might have reached into the machine for an unknown reason and gotten caught,” said Carriger. “We’re trying to determine the exact cause at this point.”

Regardless of how she was pulled into the machine, a co-worker heard her screams and immediately shut off the mixer. Unfortunately, it was too late for Lindhardt and the mother of one was pronounced dead at the scene.

We have reported on a slew of horrific ways people have died while doing their job, including getting pulled into a wood chipper; suffocating inside a cryochamber; cooked inside an industrial tuna steamer; drowning in cow shitpinto beans or chocolate; being chewed up inside meat grinders; getting stuck inside industrial dryers; flattened by paper rolling machines; and dying from exploding beer kegs.…

Andrea DebruhlCOVINGTON, GA – Police say that 5-year-old Andrea Debruhl died from accidental asphyxiation while playing on the monkey bars at her elementary school.

Debruhl was playing on the monkey bars during recess at Newton County Theme School when she slipped and her body became wedged  between the bars.

Although there were other children playing nearby, along with teachers monitoring the playground, Debruhl was left with her feet dangling until she slowly asphyxiated herself.

When she was found, school officials and responding officers performed CPR on Debruhl, but it was too late. She was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.

Her death was ruled accidental on Wednesday, but the investigation is ongoing. Police say they don’t anticipate any criminal charges to be filed, but that decision will be up to the district attorney.

The Newton County School District released the following statement on Wednesday:

We are struggling to comprehend the heartbreaking accident that occurred Monday afternoon and are grieving over the loss of such a beautiful little girl.

J.D. ByramGREENBRIER, TN – Two teens have died after authorities say they drank a mixture of Mountain Dew and racing fuel called “dewshine”.

Last Thursday morning, police were called to the home of 16-year-old Logan Stephenson after his family found him dead in his bed.

At around the same time, police were called to the home of Logan’s best friend, J.D. Byram, after the teen started having seizures. Byram was taken to the hospital where he would die Monday night.

The following day, the Greenbrier police chief said they had received information that the two boys were with a group of teenagers that had been drinking Mountain Dew mixed with racing fuel.

“We have certainly seen methanol infections, but nothing like this. I mean, this was a product that was almost 100 percent methanol, which is quite unusual,” said Dr. Donna Seger, the Director of the Tennessee Poison Center.

She added that drinking racing fuel can make someone feel drunk, along with blurred vision, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. But it can also cause seizures, permanent blindness, coma and, as these two boys found out, death.…

clifford jonesDETROIT, MI – A motorist wearing no pants died while masturbating in his car after he crashed and was partially ejected through his sunroof.

According to reports, 58-year-old Clifford Jones was driving a 1996 Toyota on the Lodge ramp to Interstate 75 early Sunday morning while watching porn on his cellphone.

Since he did not have both hands on the steering wheel, Jones lost control of the car, causing him to crash and roll the vehicle. Jones was killed instantly after he was partially ejected through his sunroof.

Police believe his ejection was partially due to the fact that aside from not wearing any pants, Jones was also not wearing his seat belt.

Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police stated that while this is one of the strangest incidents he has investigated in his career, distracted driving has become more and more common.

“We see people putting on makeup, we see people doing different things as far as hygiene, as far as reading books, it’s almost to the fact there’s so much technology out there a lot of people are more paying attention to what they’re doing other than driving their car,” said Lt.…

Roy RiffeEATONTON, GA – Here’s a sad one. A 74-year-old woman froze to death after trying to help her husband who had fallen out of his wheelchair.

Last Wednesday afternoon, 86-year-old Roy Riffe was in his motorized wheelchair headed to a building located next to his home. On the way there, Roy ran off a concrete walkway and toppled out of his wheelchair.

Roy yelled for his wife, 74-year-old Maria Riffe, who came out of the house to help her husband. Maria, who relies on a walker, ended up falling before she reached her husband.

Now here’s the horrific part: Neither of them were able to help the other and the two remained on the ground, 20 yards apart, until 10:30 the next morning.

Roy Riffe was still alive when he was found, possibly because he was wearing a jacket and fleece pants. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. Unfortunately, Maria did not make it. The poor lady was only wearing a housecoat when she fell and froze to death in front of her helpless husband.…

Elizabeth LuebkeMILWAUKEE, WI – Officials say that 21-year-old Elizabeth Luebke stormed out of a party over the weekend and was found froze to death in front of a home nearby.

According to reports, Luebke had attended a concert Saturday night before showing up at a house party.

According to witnesses, she was very drunk when she got into an argument with her friend and stormed out of the house.

The temperature outside was around -5.8 degrees with a wind chill of -27.5 degrees, and Luebke was wearing nothing but stockings, shorts and a tank-top.

When Luebke didn’t return to the home, someone called her mom, who drove to Milwaukee to look for her daughter.

At around 9 a.m. Sunday morning, a passerby found Luebke’s frozen body in the front yard of a home around the corner from the party she had left.

Police say that a surveillance camera in the neighborhood captured Luebke collapse to the ground just before 4:30 a.m. at the address her body was located.

Luebke’s mother told investigators her daughter was hospitalized last October with a blood alcohol content of 0.40 after she was found unresponsive at a bar.…

Elgie BedfordBOZEMAN, MT – A woman is suing a trucking company after she found the face of a dead man on the floor of a car wash.

I’ll get to the lawsuit details, but first here’s how the face of an 81-year-old man from Alaska ended up on the floor of a Montana car wash.

Back in 2013, Elgie Bedford was on his way to Texas from Alaska to visit his children and grandchildren. In the early morning hours, Bedford’s car went off the road near Big Timber, Montana.

Bedford got out of his vehicle and started walking down Interstate 90, presumably to get help. Unfortunately, the old man was struck by a CRST Expedited semi-truck being driven by 45-year-old David Welk.

Welk turned around to check the spot of impact but didn’t tell his coworkers he saw Bedford’s body in the road, only that he saw clothing and a duffle bag. After leaving the scene, Bedford’s body was struck by multiple vehicles before police found him at around 7:30 a.m.

One of those drivers was 31-year-old Wryan Young, who was with her father when she ran over Bedford’s body.…

Courtney CampbellEVERETT, WA – Courtney Campbell, the 25-year-old bikini barista who was caught in a fire inside her coffee stand last Thursday, has died from her injuries.

Campbell was closing up her coffee stand, Saints and Sinners, when a broke out in the coffee kiosk.

The exact reason for the explosion is still under investigation, but investigators believe a propane tank and a portable heater were involved.

The resulting flames engulfed the stand and a car parked beside it, trapping Campbell inside. She managed to get out of the flames and walk to the arriving ambulance, but not before suffering extensive burns to 80 percent of her body.

After being rushed to the hospital, Campbell was placed in a medically-induced coma. According to her friends, things were looking optimistic.

“There was hope,” said Ben Scott. “The nurses were optimistic. Her boyfriend said she looked better than she had since the accident happened. We were all making plans,” he said.

That was until Monday afternoon when her condition took a turn for the worse and she died from her injuries. …

shootingEAST PRICE HILL, OH – Police say a man shot and killed his 14-year-old son after mistaking him for an intruder in his home.

Investigators say a man watched his son, Georta Mack, walk to the bus stop Tuesday morning, but was unaware that his son had returned home shortly after.

The teen had decided to skip school and hide in the basement until his father left for work – a tactic I am sure many of us used back in the day.

Unfortunately for everyone involved with this incident, the man heard the teen in the basement, but thought it was an intruder. Armed with a handgun, the man went into the basement to investigate.

Police say the teen startled his father, resulting in the man firing off a shot that hit his son in the neck. The boy was rushed to the hospital in “extreme critical condition” but would die shortly after.

Captain Terri Theetge said after interviewing the father, his department feels the death was the result of a tragic accident but they would be reviewing the investigation with the Hamilton Prosecutor’s Office.…
