Crestview, FL — Imagine going in to have some routine surgery performed, only to end up in a burn unit in another state because somehow your face had caught on fire during the procedure. That’s exactly what happened to a woman in Florida who is currently recovering from second-degree burns to her face and neck.

Kim Grice, 29, was a patient at the Crestview Surgery Center having three cysts removed from her head. For some reason that has yet to be explained, a flash fire erupted during the surgery and Grice’s face caught on fire.

The mother of three was rushed to an emergency room and then transferred to the University of South Alabama Medical Center. Fox News states the woman suffered horrific burns, and they weren’t exaggerating. Click here to see a pic of Grice as she was being transferred to the emergency room.

The North Okaloosa Medical Center said they were investigating how the fire started, but Crestview fire officials say that surgery fires can flare up when electric or heat-generating tools, like lasers, mix with alcohol, oxygen and surgical coverings.…

Dog Shoots Hunter In The Ass With Shotgun

December 1, 2011 at 9:52 am by

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A hunter in Utah is lucky to be alive after a dog accidentally shot him with a shotgun, leaving the hunter with an assful of birdshot.

Police say 46-year-old Robert Cottingham was duck hunting Sunday with his son and brother-in-law when the accident happened. While Cottingham retrieved a duck from the water, an excited Labrador named Piper jumped into the boat they were using and hit a shotgun that had been left laying in the boat.

Piper hit the loaded shotgun in such a way that it fired, hitting Cottingham in the lower back and buttocks from a distance of about 6-feet. A medical helicopter was dispatched but later recalled after medics treated Cottingham at the scene, and then took him to the hospital where 27 birdshot pellets were removed from his ass.

Cottingham is expected to make a full recovery, even though several pellets could not be removed, and says things could have turned out a lot worse. Turns out a duck decoy absorbed a substantial amount of the blast and probably saved his life.…

Readsboro, VT – Investigators say Timothy Bolognani, 49, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound moments after discovering that he had accidentally shot and killed his friend and hunting partner, Benjamin Birch, 39.

Bolognani, Birch, and a third friend, Mark Colford, had been hunting Saturday when the incident occurred. Police investigators said that the three men were tracking a deer Birch had shot. While separated, Bolognani fired his rifle reportedly causing Birch to cry out.

State police investigators said that Bolognani and Colford found Birch lying on the ground where he died. Investigators added that Bolognani then used his rifle to immediately take his own life.

“These guys were best friends and professional hunters,” Birch’s mother told news reporters.

The deceased hunters were taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy. According to police, no foul play is suspected.

I can certainly imagine the grief that he felt…  but people need to count to ten or breathe or something.  Suicide-on-impulse is just a really bad idea.…

SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — A man sitting in a vehicle with his children died after he accidentally shot himself with his own gun.

Police say the 45-year-old man was sitting in a minivan with his two children while his wife returned a movie to a Redbox. Reports are the man went to unbuckle his seatbelt when he accidentally pulled the trigger of his .40-caliber Glock, shooting himself in the hip.

His wife ran back to the vehicle after she heard a popping noise, and her husband told her he thought he had shot himself. He was right, and possible shredded his femoral artery as by time a Sheriff’s Deputy arrived on the scene a few minutes later, the man had already suffered significant blood loss and was unconscious. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

I couldn’t find any details regarding exactly where the man was carrying his firearm, but just going by where he was shot and how it happened, it definitely wasn’t in a holster.…

Haunted House Worker Accidentally Hanged Herself

October 31, 2011 at 2:57 pm by

FENTON, Mo. — A teenager is lucky to be alive today and became more urban legend debunking material after she accidentally hanged herself with a noose while working inside a Halloween attraction.

The 17-year-old girl somehow got herself entangled in the prop while working at Creepyworld Thursday night. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after a co-worker making rounds found the girl unconscious.

She has since been moved out of the intensive-care unit and her condition is improving.

Creepyworld is a haunted attraction designed to look like a small, haunted town. They claim to be St Louis’ largest haunted attraction with seven haunted houses in one location, with over 100 employees.

This girl is not the first teenager to hang themselves at a haunted attraction. Back in 1990, Brian Jewell accidentally hanged himself while scaring people at a haunted hayride.  Many patrons who were driven by the dead teen were unaware that it was a stunt that had gone wrong.

Another teen suffered a similar fate at a haunted hayride in 2001.…

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — I am still recuperating from a weekend full of pulled pork and Evan Williams, so bear with me as I fumble through a few stories on my favorite day of the year. Starting with one out of Louisville in which another Cintas worker suffered a horrible fate after getting stuck inside an industrial dryer.

Reports are that 55-year-old Kevin Burgess arrived to work early Friday morning and began working on an industrial dryer before any of the other employees arrived. Investigator are not sure how, but Burgess fell through the top of the dryer while it was running. They believe the machinery may have jumped started, knocking him in. He was in there for almost 30 minutes until a co-worker came into work and found him. Sadly, Burgess died from multiple blunt force injuries.

Burgess would have not been able to free himself on his own, due in part to the doors closing automatically once the dryer is started and the fact that are no safety mechanisms to stop the dryer in this particular circumstance. …

Woman Sues After Sex Toy Wrecked Her Vagina

October 13, 2011 at 8:19 am by

Dunsmuir, CA — A woman in California is suing a sex toy manufacturer claiming that she had to go to the hospital after one of their products turned her vagina into mush.

April Bonjour claims that she and her boyfriend were using a dildo from Pipedream Products during foreplay when she felt an “intense sharp” pain in her vagina. When her boyfriend withdrew the sex toy, it was covered in blood.

She initially thought she had started her period, but a box of sanitary pads and a few blood clots later, she realized it was something serious. When the bleeding would not stop, her boyfriend called 911. By the time paramedics arrived, Bonjour claims she was slipping in and out of consciousness and was given several pints of blood once at the hospital.

She filed a claim against the company after she contacted them about her experience with their product and wanted monetary compensation. Pipedream Products denied her claim. I can’t say I blame them as it sounds less like Bonjour was using one of their products and more like Bonjour had a miscarriage or her boyfriend was stabbing her vagina with a serrated knife.…

Mother Killed Pushing Daughter Out Train’s Path

October 11, 2011 at 8:13 am by

Riverside, California — The news is reporting on a woman who sacrificed her life in order to save the life of her child who was in the path of an oncoming Metrolink train.

Susan Dibene, 33, was pushing her 2-year-old daughter in a stroller on Saturday when she approached some railroad tracks whose safety arms had already began to lower. Dibene made the ill-fated decision to save 5 minutes and crossed the tracks with her daughter anyway.

The conductor of the train stated he blew the train’s horn and tried to brake but could only watch Dibene wrestle the stroller across the tracks.

The first time the stroller got stuck Dibene was able to successfully free it, only to have it get stuck a second time. Once again, Dibene was able to free the stroller and pushed it off the tracks and out of the train’s path.

Unfortunately, Dibene wasn’t able to do the same for herself and was struck by the train. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

While some, including Dibene’s mother, are calling this woman a hero for saving her daughter’s life, the girl should have never been in danger to begin with. …

Sante Fe, NM — Derrick Manuel, the bloody guy to the left, was brutally beaten by three men earlier this week after he accidentally hit a 5-year-old girl that darted in front of his vehicle in a grocery store parking lot.

As is apparent in the attached surveillance video, the car in which the child was riding stops in the middle of the parking lot. The girl jumps out, runs behind the vehicle and straight into the path of Manuel’s truck. When Manuel attempted to climb out of his truck to check on the child, three of the kiddos relatives jumped him.

“At one point, I was going to pass out,” said 49-year-old Manuel. “They were hitting my face, they were hitting me, hitting me.”

Both Manuel and the child were taken to the hospital for treatment and later released. No word on the girl’s injuries, but authorities said they were minor. Manuel suffered cuts, swelling and contusions to his face during the rumble, which police say had to be broken up by witnesses.…

Holland, MI – Chad Bradbury, 24, was supposed to marry his fiancée, Samantha Stille, 23, today. The wedding is understandably off due to the fact that he – and the bride’s brother – died in a car crash Thursday night. The crash was as spectacular as it was tragic.

Bradbury, Michael Stille, 22, and best man, Jeffrey Hinds, 25, were reportedly on their way to the tuxedo shop when the vehicle they were in left the roadway, went airborne, and landed on a house. Stille died in the crash. Hinds, who was driving, is in fair condition at a local hospital – but is expected to be okay.

News reports said that speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

On Thursday Bradbury left work at Vandenberg Stereo, telling the guys he’d ‘be back soon.’

“That’s what’s so haunting,” said Ron Vandenberg, Bradbury’s boss, “when he left we had no idea that was the last time I was going to say goodbye to him. So devastating.”…

BILLINGS, Montana — Investigators say the man who was attacked by a wounded grizzly bear did not die from the mauling, but rather a gunshot from the friend who was trying to save him.

The hunting trip from hell happened on Sept 16 along the Montana-Idaho border where four people had gotten together to hunt some black bear. After splitting into groups of two, 20-year-old Ty Bell shot what he thought was a black bear.

He and his hunting partner, 39-year-old Steve Stevenson, waited around for 15 minutes and began tracking the bear they figured was now dead. They eventually found the bear but unfortunately for the men, the bear was very much alive and wasn’t a black bear at all.

There are only about 45 grizzly bears in the entire 2.4-million acre Cabinet-Yaak Ecosystem, and Bell happened to shoot one of them.

The grizzly, being pretty pissed off about getting shot, turned on both men and started for Bell. Stevenson, in a heroic attempt to save his friend, began making noise to distract the bear.…

Pooler, GA – A woman found unconscious in a McDonald’s bathroom last Wednesday died shortly thereafter from asphyxiation due to carbon dioxide leaking through the walls from a faulty gas line leading to a soda fountain.

Firefighters were called when two women were found in the restroom completely out. Initial investigations pointed to Knoxxxious noxious fumes released by cleaning chemicals, however that was ruled out after the autopsy of  80 year-old Anne Felton from Ponte Vedra, Florida showed death by suffocation. Imagine drowning on dry land…

Carbon dioxide (not to be confused with the super-deadly carbon monoxide) is generally harmless. We produce it as a product of oxygen consumption, and it is then used by plants who produce oxygen. This is called ‘The Circle of Life’ and has nothing to do with this story other than to tell you that carbon dioxide usually doesn’t kill people and to reference The Lion King.

Carbon dioxide is so harmless we use it to make bubbles in our soda, which is exactly what the carbon dioxide in this McDonald’s would’ve been doing if it weren’t for a leaky line.…
