BELLEVUE, WA – A former student and employee at Bellevue College has filed a lawsuit that claims a former assistant dean at the school raped her, assaulted her and stalked her for nearly six years.

Robert Hare, in a 2007 article entitled ‘Snakes in Suits: When Psychopaths Go to Work,’ claimed that psychopaths are three to four times as prevalent in senior management positions in the business world as in the population at large.

I’ve always thought that a similar study of the world of academia would make for interesting reading.

If the allegations in a quite explosive lawsuit prove true, 54-year-old Faisal Jaswal could well be the star of that study, as the behaviors and actions attributed to him are a shockingly pure expression of sexual sociopathy.

The lawsuit was filed a couple of weeks ago. It accuses Bellevue College in Bellevue, Washington, as well as the state of Washington, of fostering a hostile work environment by failing to protect an employee, identified only as S.R., from Jaswal.

The specific accusations seem almost fictionally malevolent.

S.R., who has intellectual delays and the mental capacity of a 14-year-old, began working at Bellevue in 2009 as a receptionist for the office of the Assistant Dean for Student Programs, said assistant dean being Jaswal.

What followed was a flurry of grooming: presents, rides to work, sex talk, dinners, and quick promotions up to Personal Assistant to the Assistant Dean- and the concomitant overnight “work trips.”

Then the sexual assaults began, accompanied, of course, with threats to the woman’s job if she told anyone. She was also threatened with forced prostitution and the death of family members. Classics, every last one.

Degradation was part of the game as well; it has been alleged that Jaswal made her wear a dog collar and leash and subjected her to unspecified punishments when she did “something he doesn’t like.”

Nor was control left out. Jaswal is accused of monitoring S.R.’s social media and whereabouts and stalking her as well, going so far as to move into an apartment above hers, the better to watch her and rape her multiple times a day.

Even before S.R. finally overcame her fear of Jaswal and reported the abuse in August of 2016, co-workers had gotten together in 2014 or 2015 and reported their concerns about what they knew of Jaswal’s behavior towards her.

There were apparently several other separate complaints about Jaswal around this time period as well, and there would be at least two more after S.R. came forward. One of the latter resulted in a Bellevue Police Department case that remains open. And last year S.R. successfully applied for a domestic violence protection order against Jaswal.

Bellevue College has declined to comment on the lawsuit. They have made it clear, though, that Jaswal no longer works for them.

Neither does S.R. The experience has left her “emotionally fragile” and fearful of men. She has attempted suicide twice.
