SMITHFIELD, UT – Police arrested a man after he allegedly doused an infant with sulfuric acid.

Police arrested 32-year-old Jason Keith Summers after he walked onto a neighbor’s property and threw a substance on an infant.

According to a Cache County Jail booking affidavit, Summers was asked numerous times what substance was. Each time he claimed it was just dirt.

It was later determined the substance was actually sulfuric acid.

The infant was rushed to the hospital but the condition of the child has not been reported.

Police say Summers “has a history of drug use and extreme violence” and tried fleeing police when they tried to take him into custody.

He was quickly taken to the ground and placed into custody, only to try escaping again after being placed in a patrol car.

After claiming he was going to be sick, the officers rolled down the car’s back window. That’s when Summers jumped out the open window and into traffic.

He was detained again and placed in jail without bond after being checked out at the hospital.

Summers is facing two second-degree felony counts of child abuse inflicting serious physical intentional injury, one felony count of escape from official custody, and one felony count of obstruction of justice.

In 2016, Summers was convicted of discharge of a firearm and drug possession.
