SPRING, TX – A woman has been charged after being caught shoplifting inside a Texas Walmart and not mentioning her child was baking in her car in the parking lot.

On Wednesday, Dimitric Knight got caught shoplifting inside a Walmart. Police were called to the location after she tried leaving the store with more than $70 worth of makeup hidden in her purse.

It wasn’t until 40 minutes later, after Knight was arrested, that officers were alerted to the fact that Knight’s 7-year-old son was sitting in the car in the parking lot.

“At some point it came out ‘did you drive here?’..we determined she had a vehicle when we went out, we found a child in the vehicle,” said Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman.

The boy was found in the backseat of the vehicle that was not running with only one window down about four inches. The temperatures outside were above 90 degrees.

Deputies said the child was either not conscious or sleeping and they had to press on his legs for him to regain consciousness.

The child was treated at the location before being released to a family member.

Knight was arrested and charged with child endangerment. She was booked into the Harris County Jail on a $15,000 bond.

“This could have had a very bad turnout. First of all, you should never leave a child in a vehicle by themselves, whether it’s summer, winter, whenever. It’s just not good to do that and there are so many things that could happen.” said Herman.
