CARTER COUNTY, OK — From the “Headlines I Never Thought I’d Ever Write” department comes a story about a 52-year-old woman who was mauled to death by her neighbor’s seven dachshunds.

On Thursday evening, Tracy Garcia was attacked by the dogs near her home.

Police were called to the scene and ended up shooting one of the dogs as it charged at them.

Garcia, a mother of two, was treated at the scene and then taken to the hospital where she later died.

The remaining dogs were rounded up and put down at the request of the owner. While the predominant breed of the dogs was dachshund, they were also mixed with terrier and border collie.

“A predominant breed in these dogs is definitely standard dachshund,” said an animal shelter employee. “They have really noticeable characteristics like their knobby legs, knees, very short legged dogs and their coats.”

All of the dogs were 1 to 3 years old, weighed less than 40 pounds and were covered by ticks and fleas. According to police, the dogs apparently lived in the woods.

“This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation,” Sheriff Chris Bryant said. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims. This is just a bad deal all the way around.”

The district attorney’s office is reviewing the information provided by investigators and will decide if any charges will be filed against the neighbor who owned the dogs.

You can see the dogs in the below video (warning, they are dead) and I have no idea what breed some of the dogs are, but “pit” isn’t the first thing that comes to my mind. They are weird looking and, like the vet employee stated, long with stubby legs.
