GRAND FORKS, ND – A woman in North Dakota reportedly shot her three young children to death before turning the gun on herself.

Police were the ones who found the bodies after the school the children attended asked them to perform a welfare check at their home.

When the officers arrived, they found the dead bodies of  35-year-old Astra Volk and her children, 14-year-old Tyler Talmage, 10-year-old Aidan Talmage and 6-year-old Arianna Talmage.

According to police, the children were shot to death by Volk before she turned the gun on herself. No motive has been given at this point, but Volta recently posted a fundraiser on GoFundMe looking for financial help.

The campaign, which has been removed, stated the following:

“Myself and my boys suffer from mental illness, bi polar, manic depression, autism, etc. we have all been hospitalized for this 🙁 I work full time but my wages have recently been garnished for medical bills. I’m looking for help with 1 months bills to help get on our feet and look for a second job. I am trying to stay positive so I do not end up back in the hospital. We are utilizing food shelf’s to help with funds. Thank you.”

Neighbors say the family was renting the home and had only moved in two months ago. They say the family was rarely seen as Volt worked odd hours and the kids mainly stayed indoors.

Communications Coordinator Tracy Jentz with Grand Forks Public Schools sent out the following statement:

“This morning, the administration at Lewis and Clark Elementary asked the Grand Forks Police Department to conduct a welfare check at a private residence. Grand Forks Public Schools was informed that a parent and three students were found deceased in the residence. Families have been notified, and the district is working with the schools involved to provide support and counseling to students and staff. The Grand Forks Police Department has asked that we share no additional information as this is an ongoing investigation.”
