ANDERSON, SC — A teen went all Matthew 5:29 the other day after she pulled out both of her eyeballs in front of the church she sometimes attended.

Elizabeth Hiott said she was working at the South Main Chapel and Mercy Center when she heard screams coming from outside and someone yelling for her to call 911.

“It was across the street, and I could see blood, and could hear her screaming, and I realized something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong,” Hiott said.

The “her” Hiott was talking about was a 19-year-old woman that sometimes attended the church but was not considered a regular member.

The “terribly wrong” part was the fact that the woman was holding one of her eyeballs she had pulled out of its socket.

“I immediately called 911 and it almost felt like the 911 dispatcher didn’t even believe me,” said Hiott. “That’s how crazy it was.”

By the time paramedics arrived, the teen had pulled out her second eyeball.

According to Anderson County Sheriff Chad McBride, the teen was fighting anyone who came near her. It took several deputies and two emergency medical workers to subdue her.

The woman was eventually secured to a stretcher and airlifted to the hospital. Her current condition is unknown.
