AKRON, OH — Police are investigating after a two-year-old girl froze to death on the front porch of her home.

On Friday, a woman called 911 to report she had found her daughter frozen on the front porch outside where temperatures that day ranged between 12 and 19 degrees.

The 911 dispatcher instructed the woman how to perform CPR on the girl until paramedics arrived and rushed the girl to Akron Children’s Hospital where she died.

The Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office is determining exactly how the girl died.

Police have also started their investigation and have been questioning neighbors.

One neighbor told reporters the family mostly kept to themselves, and that the woman had two children, the two-year old-girl and a boy. She also said the woman’s kids were often seen playing outside unsupervised.

“I’ve had to take the baby home ’cause she’ll be outside playing. It was a few times that I had to take both of her kids home,” the neighbor said.

Police have not identified the girl or her mother.

While typing this up, I realized — off the top of my beautiful head — that I could not recall writing any past stories regarding small children freezing to death outside. Doing a quick search on the site, I confirmed that the majority of hypothermia articles we have reported on involved the elderly or teenagers.

Except for one I totally forgot about… the sad story of three-year-old Titus Tackett. For those of you who may not remember, he is the toddler that went missing and was found hours later, frozen to death in a van.

Evidence points to the boy wandering out of his mother’s boyfriend’s house as the couple ran an errand, then wandering for half a mile until finding refuge in the van he was found in.

I tried to find some updates on the case, but aside from the medical examiner confirming the boy froze to death, I couldn’t find anything else. Any of you guys and gals reading this know of anything?
