LAKE COUNTY, FL – Police have accused a Florida man of drowning his 17-month-old daughter in a bathtub.

According to reports, Ocala police received a call Monday morning from the child’s mother who said that her husband had called her at work claiming to have drowned their daughter.

When police arrived at the home they had to force their way inside. They did not find the woman’s husband, 38-year-old Jeremy Main, inside the home but did find the couple’s daughter dead in a bathtub.

Main would end up turning himself in at a police substation. He was reportedly covered in blood from trying to harm himself in some way. Main was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

According to the arrest affidavit, Main killed his baby because his wife was divorcing him. He also reportedly told deputies that he has “ruined his life”.

“For someone to be able to do something like that is just mind-boggling,” said Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Fred Jones. “Twenty years in this job, and it’s hard to believe a person can lose their humanity and do something like this.”

Two teen children also live in the home, but were at school at the time of the incident.
