PLANO, TX – Police say nine people are dead after a man went on a shooting rampage during a cookout at his ex-wife’s home.

Meredith Hight, 27, was having friends over to cook out and watch football when her gathering of close friends was interrupted by her ex-husband, Spencer Hight.

Meredith and Spencer were married in 2011 but stopped living together this past March. According to court records, Meredith filed for divorce in July, citing “discord or conflict of personalities.”

Since then, Meredith has made numerous posts on social media regarding her new life, moving forward, and needing a roommate to help pay the bills at the house she and Spencer purchased in 2015.

Spencer, who was now living in an apartment, made several posts complaining about his ex-wife, and his pain medication making him feel like a zombie. It did not seem Spencer was dealing with the divorce too well, and it all came to a head when he showed up at Meredith’s cookout.

Crystal Sugg, a witness, told reporters that she saw Meredith and Spencer arguing around 7:45 p.m. outside of the home and that when Meredith tried going back inside the home, Spencer pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Within a few minutes, a police officer was at the scene and found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds in the backyard while shooting was still going on inside the home.

Deciding to not wait for backup, the officer entered the home where he encountered Spencer. The officer put an end to Spencer’s shooting rampage by dropping his pathetic ass then and there. In total, nine people are dead, including Spencer, with one person still in the hospital in critical condition.

Police haven’t released the names of all the victims (or possible survivors), stating they are waiting until they have notified the families of the victims.

What set Spencer off that day is anyone’s guess, but a friend saw him at a nearby bar before the shooting and said Spencer looked upset. Monday would have been the couple’s sixth wedding anniversary.
