FORT WORTH, TX — Fort Worth police say a man fatally shot his ex-wife in front of their 9-year-old son before killing himself.

On Sunday morning, 38-year-old Brian Kesner called 911 to say he had just shot his ex-wife, 28-year-old Krista Copeland, in the Southwest Regional Branch Library parking lot. He then fatally shot himself in the head.

Copeland was meeting Kesner at the library so he could visit with his 9-year-old son. A witness stated the two started arguing before Kesner shot Copeland in the head as she sat in the driver’s seat of her car.

Their 9-year-old was not in his mother’s car when she was shot, but had gotten out of his father’s trucks moments before the shooting. Kesner then got back into his truck and drove a short distance away before calling 911 and then killing himself.

Copeland was rushed to John Peter Smith Hospital where she died from gunshot wounds to her head. Kesner was pronounced dead in the library’s parking lot.
