WICHITA, KS – A convicted sex offender has been accused of breaking into a neighbor’s home and raping a 7-year-old girl just six weeks after being released from prison.

Corbin Breitenbach was released from jail in April after being convicted of raping, sodomizing and strangling a 22-year-old woman.

The 23-year-old has now been accused of breaking into a home on June 11 and took a 7-year-old girl from her bedroom. Court documents say he then “strangled her to unconsciousness, and then took her to an outdoor balcony where he assaulted her.”

The second-floor condo where the girl was attacked was directly across from the second-floor unit where Breitenbach was staying with his girlfriend. The two balconies are about 30 feet apart.

Breitenbach was arrested last week at his place of employment and has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated sodomy, and rape of a child under the age of 13.

The charging papers in this case also notes a “special allegation and notice of penalty,” and argue that “the defendant’s conduct during the commission of the offense manifested excessive brutality to the victim in a manner not normally present in that offense.”

“With the allegation is that he strangled her unconscious, removed her to another room, there’s the kidnapping, intercourse, there’s the rape and it’s all taking place within the context of the intent to kill,” said Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett.

Breitenbach is currently in jail on a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 5. The girl is reportedly doing well and is with her family.
