Craig BonelloHERNANDO, FL – If my stories don’t already have you afraid to take your eyes of your chirrun, here’s one where a man tried to drag a 13-year-old girl out of a Dollar Store but was stopped by the girl’s mother and an off-duty deputy who happened to be in the parking lot.

It happened on Tuesday morning when 30-year-old Craig Bonello decided to kidnap the girl from inside a Dollar General while she shopped with her mother.

As seen in the following surveillance video, the greasey bastard scopes out the pair for a bit before walking up and grabbing the girl by the arm. What follows is a terrifying tug-of-war between Bonello and the victim’s mother as he tries dragging the girl out of the store in full view of other shoppers.

The mother never gives up and manages to get Bonello to let go of her daughter. Bonello runs out of the store and into his car at the same time Deputy Jonathan Behnen pulled into the parking lot.

The store manager yelled at Behnen to stop Bonello, so the off-duty officer pulled his patrol car in front of Bonello’s and ordered him out of his vehicle at gunpoint. Bonello intiailly hesitated, but eventually complied and was taken into custody.

“In my 10 years on the road I have never seen anything like this,” said Sgt. Craig Callahan who added that the mother probably saved her daughter’s life. “I don’t exactly know a motive, but I know it wasn’t a good one.”

Police say they have arrested Bonello several times before on charges of trespassing and other misdemeanors, as well as a 2009 charge of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. They say Bonellos is not a registered sex offender.
