Sarah Jo DeleonKANSAS CITY, KS – Police say they have identified a female suspect in the 1989 murder of 19-year-old Sarah Jo DeLeon and the 1994 murder of 26-year-old Diana Ault.

In December of 1989, DeLeon left her boyfriend’s house and was headed home. The next morning, a railroad crew found her dead body alongside the railroad tracks. The teen had suffered a head wound and had been stabbed multiple times.

In January 1994, Ault was found shot to death inside her home. She was found with her crying 4-year-old son and 6-month-old daughter next to her body. Her husband told police that that they had received threatening phone calls from a woman in the days before Ault’s murder.

Police identified the woman caller, but did not have enough evidence for any kind of prosecution. This same woman also knew DeLeon, police saying she was a romantic rival linked to the men in the murdered women’s lives.

“The investigation has revealed that the suspect and an accomplice have been involved in other incidents involving the harassment and intimidation of romantic rivals,” Detective Scott Howard said in a prepared statement.

What seems to be the catalyst for these latest announcements, aside from the advances that have been made in DNA collection, is an abduction that took place two years before DeLeon’s murder. In that case, the victim said she was tricked into leaving her home in a limousine and taken to the American Inn.

Police are asking that anyone who may have been at the American Inn at that time and saw anything unusual or suspicious to call the Kansas City homicide unit or the Tips Hotline at 816-474-8477.

“We believe that we can show a pattern of behavior that links this to the DeLeon homicide and other crimes,” Howard said. Investigators have not released the name of their suspect, but a lot of people know exactly who they are referring to so I’m sure her name will be released shortly.
