Russell TaylorINDIANAPOLIS, IN – Former Jared Foundation director Russell Taylor, who was arrested on federal child porn charges last week, attempted suicide in his Marion County Jail cell Wednesday.

Up until his arrest, the 43-year-old was the executive director of the Jared Foundation, an organization named after Subway spokesperson Jared Fogle that works toward raising awareness about childhood obesity.

Taylor found himself in some trouble after investigators found more than 400 videos child pornography on his home office computers. Police also found videos taken by cameras hidden in Taylor’s homes during a period between 2012 and 2015.

The children in these particular videos, between the ages of 9 and 16, were not aware they were being filmed. Taylor told police that the cameras were setup to monitor whether things were being stolen, or if someone was having sex in his home.

Police are also investigating reports that Taylor’s sexual preference wasn’t limited to children. According to court documents, Taylor sent a text message to a female to websites dedicated to bestiality. In the conversation, he also informed the woman, “We do travel to Thailand on occasion.”

On Monday, Taylor was charged with seven counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. If convicted on all counts, Taylor is looking at a life behind bars.

Taylor must have decided that his future was looking pretty bleak so on Wednesday he tried killing himself in his jail cell. He was not successful and was taken to the hospital where he is currently on life support.

As for Jared, he distanced himself from Taylor pretty quickly in a statement released last week that stated:

“I was shocked to learn of the disturbing allegations against Mr. Taylor. Effective immediately, the Jared Foundation is severing all ties with Mr. Taylor.”
