Ryan WatenpaughREDDING, CA – Ryan Watenpaugh is facing charges of stalking and animal cruelty after being accused of killing his ex-girlfriend’s dog, cooking it and then feeding it to her.

Watenpaugh’s ex-girlfriend contacted police earlier this month to report she was being stalked by her physically abusive ex-boyfriend, 34-year-old Ryan Watenpaugh.

She informed them that she dated Watenpaugh for only a few months, but in that time he’d physically assaulted her numerous times. On two occasions, she’d been held against her will whenever she tried to get away from him.

In early August 4, the couple split up after she ran from her apartment during one of Watenpaugh’s episodes, only to return later to find he was not there, nor was her Pomeranian named Bear.

About a month later, they reconciled long enough for Watenpaugh to cook her a dinner. Days later, she says Watenpaugh sent her a text messages referencing the dinner he’d cooked for her and asking her how her dog tasted.

“How’s your dog taste? I thought it was better with BBQ and those Hawaiian buns.”

“I guess u could bury what u didn’t eat.”

“The smile on my face when you read this … priceless,” read some of the texts.

Watenpaugh allegedly continued to harass the woman with menacing text messages that included his promise to send her Bear’s paws. On Tuesday, the victim says Watenpaugh made good on his promise.

At around 1 a.m., the woman looked outside and saw Watenpaugh place a small bag near her front door and walk away. When she opened the bag she found it contained Bear’s paws and a note that read:

“Burn in hell. I hate you so much it hurts. Stay away from me. I want nothing to do with you. Fuck you.” At the bottom of the note: a smiley face.

The Shasta County Sheriff’s Department arrested Watenpaugh on charges of domestic violence, false imprisonment, stalking and animal cruelty. Additional charges will be sought regarding the Romanian variant AK-47 assault rifle found in his home.
