Kathryn StalbaumWAUKESHA, WI – I usually hold off on posting missing kid stories because they always seem to be found, alive or dead, before I even get them typed up. But Waukesha officials are asking for the public’s help in finding 15-year-old Kathryn Stalbaum, a freshman at Kettle Moraine High School who was last seen early Tuesday morning.

Stalbaum was last seen around 6:15 a.m. at her home in Town of Genesee. She missed the bus to school that morning and texted a friend to let them know she would ride her bike to school. She never made it there, and she hasn’t been seen or heard from since.

“Kathryn has not an individual that has a history of running away. Her family has a good, close relationship with her, where she maintains contact, so the fact that she’s been gone for the time frame that she has is unusual,” Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department Inspector Eric Severson said.

Stalbaum is about 5’7”, 120 pounds, has long brown hair, blue eyes, has braces and wears contacts. She may be wearing jeans, a sweatshirt and bright pink Nike tennis shoes. She may have been riding a teal female-style Schwinn mountain bike and carrying a teal backpack.

Officials completed their first round of door-to-door search this morning and are focusing on the route Stalbaum would have taken to school a route that includes going through Wales Community Park.

A dive team scheduled to train on Thursday has decided to search a small retention pond near her school. They say there’s no evidence indicating Stalbaum is in the pond but decided to check it out since they were already going to be out training.

If anyone sees Stalbaum, or has any information regarding her whereabouts, they are asked to contact the Waukesha County Communication Center at 262-446-5090.
