LONG ISLAND – An elderly couple have been arrested and charged with tampering with packages of Jello pudding in some Suffolk and Nassau county stores. Christine Clement, 64, and Alexander Clement, 68, would buy the Jello pudding, empty out the contents and then replace the pudding with aquarium sand. After resealing the packages, they would return the boxes to the store for a monetary refund. Police do not feel the couple were doing this with the hopes of harming anyone, they were simply using this technique to steal the product. Christine Clement was charged with five counts of Petit Larceny and five counts of Tampering With A Consumer Product 2nd Degree. Alexander Clement was charged with five counts of Petit Larceny and five counts of Tampering With A Consumer Product 2nd Degree. Police pinpointed the couple after watching hours of store surveillance footage.

Isn’t a bag of aquarium sand a hell of a lot more expensive than a box of Jello pudding powder? I thought that stuff was about 8-cents or something. I mean, unless the couple were also replacing the aquarium sand with the pudding powder…which would be kinda funny…I don’t get the logic here.
