On April 4, emergency crews responded to a home after getting a call that Peighton had stopped breathing, The boy was rushed to the hospital where he would be pronounced dead.
At the time, Det. Sgt. Michael Warren of the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations would not comment on how the baby died, pending an autopsy report, only stating they treat every child death as suspicious when there’s no pre-existing conditions.
That didn’t stop others from commenting on the story, people who claimed DCF was already involved with the boy and his mother, 28-year-old Nytosha LaForce. They say she and her new boyfriend were drug users, and that Peighton had been admitted to the emergency room once before.
Two weeks after his death, Nytosha was placed behind bars on a parole violation. She’s now serving 2-10 years for a 2006 aggravated assault and smuggling drugs and alcohol into a correctional facility.…Continue Reading
BURLINGTON, Vt. - A woman is dead after she purchased $5 worth of gas at a Vermont gas station, then used it to set herself on fire.
According to a clerk at the Champlain Farms Shell gas station, the woman came into the store and prepaid for the gas. She also placed her I.D. on the counter and said she didn’t need it any longer. When she went back out to the pumps where her gold Subaru Forester was sitting, the store employees watched as the woman removed the hose from the gas pump and began dousing herself with gasoline.
Probably because women do this all the time, the store manager immediately shut off the pump from inside the store. But the employees quickly realized this wasn’t another case of a woman not knowing how to put the doohickey into the whatchamacallit when the woman struck a match and set herself on fire.
The store manager and some customers ran out and tried to put the woman out with fire extinguishers, but the woman had already achieved her goal of self-immolation.…Continue Reading
White River Junction, VT – A 19-year-old girl has been accused of faking her own abduction in an effort to extort money from her grandmother so she could pay off a drug dealer.
Monday night, 73-year-old Patricia Swanson received a call at her home from a man demanding she bring him $600 as her granddaughter, Megan, could be heard crying in the background. If she did not bring him the money, the man told her, he was going to kill her.
When Swanson told the unknown man that she didn’t have that kind of cash, he threatened her as well. Fearing for her life and her granddaughter’s, Swanson complied and agreed to drop the money off wherever he instructed.
When Swanson dropped off the cash at the drop off spot, Megan’s kidnappers were unaware that they had been set up. Patricia had called police beforehand and they were there watching in unmarked cruisers. They say 20-year-old Joshua Rice was the one who arrived at the location and grabbed the cash.
Police pulled a car over as it was leaving the scene and found 21-year-old Kevin Emery and the alleged hostage, Megan.…Continue Reading
Readsboro, VT - Investigators say Timothy Bolognani, 49, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound moments after discovering that he had accidentally shot and killed his friend and hunting partner, Benjamin Birch, 39.
Bolognani, Birch, and a third friend, Mark Colford, had been hunting Saturday when the incident occurred. Police investigators said that the three men were tracking a deer Birch had shot. While separated, Bolognani fired his rifle reportedly causing Birch to cry out.
State police investigators said that Bolognani and Colford found Birch lying on the ground where he died. Investigators added that Bolognani then used his rifle to immediately take his own life.
“These guys were best friends and professional hunters,” Birch’s mother told news reporters.
The deceased hunters were taken to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy. According to police, no foul play is suspected.
I can certainly imagine the grief that he felt… but people need to count to ten or breathe or something. Suicide-on-impulse is just a really bad idea.…Continue Reading
According to police, a friend of 43-year-old Michael Weisler called 911 Sunday afternoon to report Weisler had threatened to commit suicide and was on his way to the barracks. Just moments later, as troopers stood by, Weisler entered the parking lot, exited his vehicle and shouted, “I’m the one you’re looking for.” He then pulled out a handgun and shot himself dead before the officers could intervene. Case closed.
The alleged molestation of the girl, which police say occurred back in ’08, was reported to Vermont State Police on Friday. An investigation by state police and the Department of Children and Families ultimately led to Weisler’s arrest on Saturday. He posted $10,000 bail Sunday morning and was to appear in Vermont Superior Court sometime today.
Police are investigating the incident and trying to piece together Weisler’s final hours, Police Lt. Detective Brian Miller said.…Continue Reading
West Ruthland, VT – A Vermont woman has been accused of trying to season the brains of her step-father with a pair of heavy-duty salt and pepper shakers.
Police responding to a domestic call found a man in a home bleeding from his head. He told them his step-daughter, 31-year-old Darcy Sanderson-Day, had assaulted him after he denied her entry into her deceased mothers’ house.
After she ignored him and walked in to swipe some smokes off a table, he escorted her out and locked the door behind her. He told police she was able to get back inside after she threw an ashtray through the glass kitchen door.
Once back inside the home she allegedly began kicking his ass, hitting him in the head with her fists and a set of salt and pepper shakers. These weren’t cutesy salt and pepper shakers, but rather the large ones made out of wood with metal tops.
Sanderson-Day was arrested at her home and charged with unlawful trespassing in an occupied residence and a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault and unlawful mischief.…Continue Reading
Manchester, VT — Police say 24-year-old Jeffrey Charbonneau was shot and killed in his sleep on Thursday after an apparent prank went way wrong. According to authorities, Charbonneau and his friend, 23-year-old Nicholas Bell, had stayed over at a mutual friend’s home Wednesday night. At around 8:00 Thursday morning, police say Bell, perhaps hoping to scare the piss out of his friend first thing in the a.m. by rousing him from his slumber in a somewhat untraditional manner, armed himself with what he thought was an air rifle and entered the room where Charbonneau was sleeping. He took aim and fired. Imagine his surprise when blood started spurting out of his buddy’s chest! What Bell initially thought was an air rifle was actually a .22-caliber rifle. Oopsie! Charbonneau was pronounced dead at the scene. Bennington County State’s Attorney Erica Marthage requested that Bell be charged with manslaughter. Though there is no evidence to suggest that Charbonneau’s death was anything but an accident, Bell did deliberately pull the trigger. “It was reckless behavior and he meant to shoot the gun,” Marthage said.…Continue Reading
St. Albans, VT – Misty Smith, 34, is being held on $1 million bail for allegedly drugging, kidnapping and sexually assaulting three of her 11-year-old son’s friends. Smith was arrested on Wednesday after one of the alleged victims was reported missing by his parents. The 11-year-old boy was seen heading to Smith’s home after school Tuesday afternoon, and when he failed to show up at home, his parents and police canvassed the neighborhood. The boy’s parents visited Smith’s home and asked her three separate times if she had seen the boy – each time, Smith denied having any knowledge of his whereabouts. When an officer questioned Smith about the missing boy that evening, she played stupid once again. Hearing noises coming from an upstairs bedroom, the officer asked if he could take a look. In the bedroom, he found the missing boy and two other 11-year-old boys.
During an interview with the boys, detectives learned they routinely visited Smith’s home after school and were given cigarettes, marijuana, alcohol, pills that “made them hyper” and cocaine.…Continue Reading
St. Johnsbury, VT – Details on this one are a bit sketchy, but it seems as though Laurie Davenport has been putting her adopted daughter through pure hell for the past couple of years. In 2008, Davenport pleaded guilty to charges she left a 9-year-old child locked in a bedroom while she went to work. She spent 2 months in jail and the child was later returned to her. That same child reportedly ran away in December of ’09 and was once again returned to Davenport after the child reported she wasn’t being abused. Fast forward to March – Davenport’s parenting skills are once again being questioned. This time, the allegations of abuse include sexual assault and torture. Prosecutors are accusing Davenport of beating the 11-year-old with a hammer, a shovel and firewood. She allegedly forced the child to bathe in boiling hot water. She is accused of cutting the child’s legs and the area around her “private parts” with a knife, burning her with a curling iron and cookie sheets, and using pliers to pull out the kid’s teeth.…Continue Reading
Beebe Plain, VT – From Alfred Duckless’ Myspace profile: “I am 25 i have a four year old son witch i am raising by my self but we will make it.” Yeah, barely. According to authorities, Duckless rushed his toddler son to the emergency room back in December because the child was unresponsive. At the hospital, it was determined that the boy was near death, suffering from severe hypothermia – his body temperature was just 80.6 degrees. When questioned, Dickless told doctors and police that the child had played outside in the cold for an extended period of time. The child recovered and was later placed in a foster home. Not satisfied with the initial explanation of the boy’s injuries, investigators recently questioned Dickless again. This time, his story was way different. Turns out the kid pissed in his pants and as punishment, he was submerged in cold water up to his neck and forced to remain there for at least 3 hours. When he struggled to get out, Dickless pushed him back in, bruising the child’s head in the process.…Continue Reading
Burlington, Vermont How many of you dreamt of flying when you were younger? Even better, how many of you actually tried to fly? I think the fantasy was always fueled by cartoons (in my day) and stuntmen with my children. Hollywood always makes things look so easy and always manage to trick the mind. Unless you’ve seen the making of a movie, you never see the landing platforms below. You just see some idiot jumping from the top of a building, landing smoothly, and walking away as though it were as natural as breathing in and out. It’s not, I can tell you that for sure. Even with a belly full of booze, jumping out of a high window is never really a cool idea – I tried it in college. But the alcohol and the fit of laughter kind of made our legs a bit unstable so it was nothing for them to revolt mid air and say “fuck you” as we were plummeting to the ground. But what happens when you’re all tense and you “need” to get away from say…the police?…Continue Reading
SWANTON, Vermont -Raising a kid can be tough, especially if you are doing it by yourself. One of the biggest hurdles a single parent faces with a young child is day care. It can be expensive as hell. I wouldn’t know as my son was raised by a myriad of young girls I would hook up with who had nowhere to go. Sure it got aggravating when they didn’t know who Sid and Marty Krofft were, but hey, the sex was good (for me) and they were cheap dates. Anyway, I imagine the father of a 2-month-old baby girl was relieved to hear that his father, 46-year-old Thomas West, offered to care for her full-time. Besides, Thomas had moved in with his son and the girl in August so it just made sense. What didn’t make sense was the hospital they took her to found that she was suffering from two skull fractures. Initially playing dumb, Thomas eventually admitted to dropping her on the floor and then punching her in the head when he got frustrated with her crying.…Continue Reading
Williston, Vermont–Robert Kolibas’ daughter was hosting a sleep-over last month. Being the kind and generous father that he is, Robert took it upon himself to whip up a couple of Smoothie’s for the kiddos and get them settled in front of the television to watch a flick. Awww…what a very gracious host! Shortly after consuming the Smoothie’s, both girls fell asleep in front of the TV. Sounds like a successful slumber party, no? No. Robert’s 13-year-old house guest was rudely awakened by the skeevy, nasty, old perv feeling her up and attempting to remove her clothes. …Continue Reading
Grand Isle County, VT–I can’t believe I’m even writing this story, I mean, look at that guy. Would you hire him on as a nanny? Call me sexist, call me close-minded, call me tomorrow, whatever. After looking at those moogly eyes, there is no way in hell I would allow Douglas Shepherd to care for my rabbit, let alone my children. However, he advertised his services as a nanny on eNannysource.com, and they matched him up with a family with two young boys, one of them autistic. Now what do you think he did to end up here? I’ll give you three guesses……Continue Reading
Tyler Hines (Myspace)
St. Albans, VT–Tyler Hines, 20, raped a 3-year-old girl. The rape, he says, was the result of a ‘sick idea.’ Can you say, understatement? Hines alleges that the the child stepped into the shower while he was using it and he sexually assaulted her…but only ‘briefly.’
