Edward Burcham Swerves To Avoid Dog In Road, Kills Elderly Man Riding Lawnmower

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — Edward Burcham killed an elderly man riding on a lawnmower after swerving to avoid a dog in the road.
North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers said that on Tuesday, 50-year-old Burcham was driving when he swerved to miss a dog he says ran out in front of his truck. He ended up going off the road and striking 73-year-old Bobby Lambert, who was riding on a lawnmower in his yard.
Lambert was pronounced dead at the scene, and charges were pending against Burcham. He was reportedly doing 35 mph in a 45 mph zone, but troopers said he was “well off the road” when he hit Lambert.
I don’t know if Burcham’s dog story has been verified, but I cannot stress this enough; if an animal runs out in front of you vehicle, simply perform controlled braking, sound your horn, and hope the stupid thing gets out of the way. Unless it’s a dinosaur or some other large animal that could result in your death if you strike it, do not ever swerve to avoid it.…

Nashville, TN – Todd Harrell, the bassist for that horrible band responsible for the horrible song “Kryptonite,” has been charged with vehicular homicide after he drunkenly hit a pickup truck with his car, killing the driver.
The incident happened Friday night in Nashville, where police say Harrell was speeding in his car when he clipped a pickup truck driven by Paul Howard Shoulders. The truck was sent careening down an embankment and Shoulders was killed after being ejected from his truck. Harrell suffered minor injuries.
Police said 41-year-old Harrell showed signs of impairment at the scene and admitted he’d consumed hard cider along with some Lortab and Xanax. After being taken to jail, deputies found Harrell was hiding a bag in his sock that contained 8 Xanax pills, 24 oxycodone pills and 4 oxymorphone pills.
Todd Harrell is currently in jail on $100,000 bond on charges of vehicular homicide and bringing controlled substances into the jail.
harrell had gotten into similar trouble last year in D’Iberville, MI, after crashing his black Cadillac into the rear of a pickup truck while intoxicated.…

Milwaukee, WI – Police have arrested a 13-year-old girl who they say was behind the wheel of the stolen car that struck and killed a bicyclist earlier this month. If you are to believe some of the witness statements, this girl joins the gang of the more callous, apathetic juveniles we have featured on this site in the past.
The girl had been out with friends stealing cars throughout the night when, at around 6:35 a.m, she and another girl where in a stolen Dodge Neon drag racing with two males in a stolen Chrysler minivan. The girl ended up hitting and killing 57-year-old Ronald Forbes, who had been riding his bicycle to work as he did every day.
Witnesses say that after the crash, the two girls got of the Neon and jumped into the minivan with the two boys before fleeing the scene. Using fingerprints obtained from the Neon and the minivan later found abandoned, they were able to track down the 13-year-old driver who hit Forbes. She was with other girls in yet another stolen car.…

Nashville, TN - In the early hours of December 10, Erin Brown, 21, and her boyfriend – who had been out drinking – reportedly decided to call it a night. Believing that she was too drunk to drive, Brown handed the keys of her Toyota Scion over to her boyfriend, Trevor Bradshaw, 23.
They didn’t make it very far. Bradshaw, who police say was speeding, hit two pedestrians, crossed a median, and struck a taxi cab head on. According to witnesses, Bradshaw then loudly declared ’10-15 times’ that he was drunk before fleeing – only to be brought back to the scene by two witnesses. According to police, Bradshaw fled again before police arrived on the scene.
After being transported to a local hospital, Michael Brooksher, 22, died on Dec. 12. Booksher’s friend, Tommy Allen, 23, was in a coma for nearly two months after being struck. He died due to his injuries on Feb. 7. The taxi driver and Brown reportedly suffered only minor injuries. Brown remained on the scene.…

Franklin, NJ – Got some updates to a couple of our recent stories, including an arrest being made in the death of 23-year-old Tiffany Jantelle. She was the young woman who was struck and killed by a lifted truck while she was trying to help an injured dog.
Brian McCauslin, 38, was arrested Tuesday night on a count of knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death. The arrest came less than four days after Jantelle was struck and killed by his vehicle as she tended to a dog in the road who had been hit by a vehicle earlier.
Witnesses at the scene described the truck to police, a lifted, rolling penis extension with vertical exhaust pipes behind the cab, and also described how after hitting Jantelle, the driver stopped, got out to see what he’d done, got back in and proceeded to exit stage left.
After fielding a slew of tips from the community along with the hard work of detectives, the passenger of the truck was identified on Tuesday.…

Franklin, NJ – Franklin police would like some help trying to find the jackass driving a lifted Dodge truck as it was involved in a hit and run that claimed the life of a Good Samaritan early Saturday morning.
Tiffany Jantelle, 23, and several others were on Weston Canal Road assisting a dog that had been hit by a vehicle earlier when a lifted, black Dodge pickup struck Jantelle. She would die the next day from head injuries.
Hitting someone in the middle of the road is an accident and if that’s all that had happened, you’d probably never have read about Jantelle on this site. But witnesses at the scene said that the two white guys in the truck stopped briefly after hitting Jantelle, but then drove away.
Driving off may make the driver a jackass, but if laws in New Jersey are setup the way they are in a lot of states, it’s actually to his benefit to leave the scene if he was driving under the influence. That way he will probably receive a lighter punishment whenever he’s eventually found.…

Espanola, NM – A woman is facing charges after she tested positive for cocaine and methadone immediately following a crash that killed her 3 year-old son.
Devon Martinez, 28, was traveling with her two small children in an SUV Thursday when it plowed into the back of a tractor trailer that was stopped to make a turn. Espanola Police Chief Leo Montoya stated, “When I went to the scene there was no evidence she had the opportunity to brake or tried to brake.”
When mommy hit the truck, junior hit the windshield and died. The other child in the vehicle, a 19 month-old girl, was in a car seat, but it was unsecured, rendering it about as useful as a hamburger eaten rectally. She was airlifted to the hospital and is in serious condition.
Mom seemed a bit impaired and the police did not detect alcohol, so they checked her blood and found the aforementioned drugs. She faces vehicular homicide, child abuse and other charges.

Ogden, Utah — Prosecutors have charged a man who was found naked from the waist down behind the wheel of an SUV that had a dead man underneath it. Ogden Police say 45-year-old Daniel Bradshaw hit and killed 54-year-old Brent Bodily.
According to police documents, around 3:00 p.m. Monday, they received a call to the 700 block of Sullivan Road in Ogden. Officials say upon arrival, they found Bradshaw in the driver’s seat of a blue GMC SUV, and Bodily under the front end of the vehicle, dead. Police claim Bradshaw ran over Bodily as he pulled out of his driveway, dragging him about 14 feet. Police also said Bradshaw was naked from the waist down and fondling himself when they approached the vehicle.
Police have yet to determine the relationship between the two men.
Bradshaw was charged Tuesday with six counts, including including vehicular homicide, DUI, driving on a revoked license, alcohol for a restricted driver, lewdness, and open container violations.
Police are expected to amend the arrest warrant with an additional charge of ‘causing Bodily harm.’…

Phoenix, Arizona – Back in 2009, we reported on 50-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki, the Iraqi immigrant who was charged with running over his daughter because she had become too “Westernized.”
Yesterday, a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.
Defense attorneys tried to argue that Almaleki was simply trying to spit on his daughter, 20-year-old Noor Almaleki, when he accidentally swerved into her and her boyfriend’s mother in the Arizona Department of Economic Security parking lot.
Noor would remain in a coma for two weeks before dying from her injuries.
After striking his daughter, Almaleki abandoned his vehicle in Mexico, then flew to Britain. You know, all the things a father does when he accidentally hits his daughter with a Jeep. Luckily he was denied entry into the country and was sent back to the United States.
Authorities say the Almaleki was enraged at that Noor had refused an arranged marriage, went to college, and had a boyfriend he did not approve.
The mother of Noor’s boyfriend, Amal Khalaf, testified that Almaleki made no attempt to stop when she and Noor were struck by his Jeep Cherokee.…

Charlotte, NC – A teen driver has been charged after accidentally hitting and killing a father and daughter who were out walking with a 1-year-old boy who was seriously injured.
Police say 18-year-old Sharai Marie Bauer was driving when she reached to grab something she had dropped. In doing so, she swerved and struck a 66-year-old man and his 27-year-old daughter from behind. They had been walking in the road with traffic, close to the curb, pushing the woman’s 1-year-old son in a stroller.
Tragically, the man was died at the scene. The woman was airlifted with life-threatening injuries but would die in the hospital later that evening. The boy was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
Currently, Bauer has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor death by vehicle and was described as visibly distraught as she sat in the back of a police car. Those charges may change as police are still investigating the accident and are trying to determine how fast Bauer was going when she struck the pedestrians.…

ANTIOCH, Calif. — A man suspected of dragging a woman to death in a California parking lot admitted to intentionally hitting the homeless woman with his truck after an argument. Surveillance video from a nearby gas station shows 51-year-old Lucio Rivera Avila and 47-year-old Shelly Baker sitting in a truck in a produce store parking lot early Tuesday morning. The two get out of the vehicle and get into a heated argument witnesses described as brief but passionate. Avila is seen re-entering the truck as Baker bends down to pick up her belongings. Avila is then shown backing up, and speeding forward into Baker. Video footage shows Baker fly through the air before Avila continues moving forward, dragging her as far as 70 feet down the street. A nearby policeman arrived on the scene to find Baker suffering from “extremely significant injuries.” She would die later in the hospital. Avila would be taken into custody later that day after his truck is spotted in a Rite Aid parking lot and admitted to hitting the woman.…

Philadelphia -- Towing companies in Philly don’s mess around it seems, with multiple stories in the news about competing companies fighting over territory and with each other. The latest involving a man who killed a rival towing employee by running him over with his tow-truck. Police said that 25-year-old Glen McDaniel, who worked for Straight Up Towing, and 30-year-old Ray Santiago, who worked for Siani’s towing, both ended filling up their tow trucks at the same gas station at the same time. Reportedly the two got into an argument over towing territories, and Santiago ended up leaving the gas station, pulling into O’Reilly’s Pub across the street. McDaniel followed him and for some senseless reason, he ran over Santiago. No quite satisfied, he put his truck in reverse and ran over him again, killing him. McDaniels was caught moments later after driving off and charged with murder, homicide by vehicle, and DUI. This isn’t McDaniels first run-in with the law over his temper — he was still on probation for a December charge of simple assault where he had been ordered to take anger management classes.…

For those of you who do not feel like clicking, Kristina Hensley, 35, arrived at the residence of Jae Cho, 31, after he called Naughty Bodies requesting a private show. She alleged that Cho got a bit too hands-on so she ran outside to her SUV where Cho followed and threatened to slash her tires. When he jumped in front of the vehicle, Hensley ran over him and dragged his ass all the way to a gas station where he would die from his injuries. Yesterday a grand jury returned indictments against Hensley, charging her with two counts of murder, aggravated robbery, failure to stop after an accident and theft. Those robbery and theft charges allude to a much different scenario than the one Hensley described. Yesterday we posted a story about a husband and wife getting into a fight that ended with the wife breaking the husband’s nose before breaking into a school naked. Today we have a story about a husband and wife getting into an argument that ended with the wife using her car to run over her husband. You guys just have to get the last word, huh? Witnesses say that on Monday night, April Holmes backed over her estranged husband with her Bonneville then drove forward hitting him again, pinning him underneath. Neighbors reported that 29-year-old Donald Holmes “was screaming and crying for help. He then threw his cell phone out to one of the witnesses to call the police,” said Donna Hawkins of the Harris Co. District Attorney’s Office. Police placed April into custody after finding her at the scene, still sitting behind the wheel of the car. MONROE, OH – The worst thing I ever experienced from a stripper was a venereal disease and a missing wallet, but some poor sap in Ohio got a death I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. He was dragged underneath a dancer’s SUV finally dying after she stopped at a gas station several miles away. Police say that Kristina Hensley, 35, arrived at the residence of Jae Cho, 31, after he called Naughty Bodies requesting a private show. At this time it is not clear what happened in the residence, but police say that whatever did happen had Hensley leaving in a big hurry, running over Cho as he tried to stop her. She drove for a few miles before stopping at a gas station where she realized that Cho was stuck underneath her vehicle. Paramedics were called as Cho was still alive, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. For now, Hensley is only being charged with leaving the scene of an accident. SOMERVILLE, N.J. -An actress I do not remember who starred in films I did not watch and a show I hated back in the ’90s has been charged with vehicular homicide. Police say that Amy Locane-Bovenizer, 38, was driving her 2007 Chevy Tahoe drunk Sunday evening when she rear-ended another vehicle. She sped off when the driver got out of his car. He then followed her while calling police reporting Locane-Bovenizer was running over mailboxes. Her drunken antics ended when she broadsided the passenger side of a Mercury Milan driven by Fred Seeman. Taking the brunt of the impact was his 60-year-old wife, noted historian Helene Seeman. Helen was pronounced dead at the scene while Fred was transported to the hospital by helicopter with serious injuries. Responding officers found Locane-Bovenizer at the scene stinking of alcohol suffering from a scratch on her foot. She was arrested and taken for a blood alcohol test. While in custody she admitted to having several glasses of wine prior to killing Helen. She has now been charged with vehicular homicide and third-degree assault by auto.…

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Lewis Weilenman, 46, has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted second degree murder, and two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon after he intentionally ran over two women at a wedding reception. Guests say that the more Weilenman drank, the angrier he got . It got so bad that he was asked to leave the party. He returned later with a knife and threatened to slice his wrists. The knife was taken from him and he was asked to leave again. He returned 30-minutes later but Debra Van Buren, 52, the bride’s mother and Gambino-Ferola, 42, yelled at him to leave. Witnesses say that Wielenman got into his Ford Taurus stating “I’m going to kill you guys,” and drove in reverse toward the two women, striking Van Buren. He then put the car into drive and ran over Gambino-Ferola, backed up and ran over her again. Gambino-ferola was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital, suffering from a damaged liver and heart, broken ribs, a broken left arm and bruises to her head.…

MESA, Ariz – Nicole M. Brock, 16, had just dropped off her brother, 17-year-old Dwight J. Brock Jr., at the Superstition Springs Mall. While still in the parking lot, the siblings began goofing around with Dwight jumping in front of the car and Nicole slamming on the brakes. But the fun and games turned into horror as Nicole’s brother jumped in front of the car and she was unable to slam on the brakes in time and ran him over. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but later died. As an old fart, I read stories like this and realize just how lucky me and my friends were with our vehicles. We performed some really, really stupid stunts with them. Hell, even my Mom would pull that stop-go-stop-go routine whenever I would try to get into the car. MARIETTA, Georgia – On Wednesday, Gloria Valazquez was watching as her daughter, 5-year-old Karla Campos, was getting off her school bus after attending a day at Mountain View Elementary. Without warning, 82-year-old Edith M. Anderson passed the stopped bus on the right, ran up onto the curb and into the grass stricking Karla. Anderson kept on going. Karla was rushed to Scottish Rite Hospital, where she later died. Anderson, who is free on bond, now faces vehicular homicide charges. Houston, Texas – Portia Thompson, 20, is fighting for her life in a Memorial Hermann Hospital after being run over in a Walmart parking lot on the day before Thanksgiving. Police are looking for the driver of a Dodge Durango who was fighting with Thompson over a parking space before the driver of the SUV ran over her. Her brother, who was in the car with her at the time, states that, “He tells my little sister to get out of the car. She didn’t get out of the car, so they get out with blades. They’re waving their knives.” After she eventually got out of the car, “the SUV pulls around and rams her,” said her brother.
