It happened Saturday afternoon at Whittier’s Penn Park as a bridal party had gathered near a 100-foot eucalyptus tree to take a group photo.
For reasons currently being investigated, the tree fell over and trapped up to 20 people. One person, currently being reported as the mother of the bride, was killed.
Gilbert Duran posted on Facebook that he helped pull the woman from under the tree, saying he was pretty sure she was already dead.
“They’re taking pictures under this tree and all of a sudden it jut collapsed,” Duran said. “We just watched some little kids go flat underneath that tree.”
Five other people suffered minor and moderate injuries, including a 4-year-old girl who was reportedly in critical condition due to a head injury.
Why the tree fell is unknown at this time, but officials said it probably the California drought could have weakened the 50-year-old tree.…
CHEVY CHASE, MD – The body of Joshua Davis, a 15-year-old boy reported missing when he did not return home Monday night, was found by his father on Tuesday. Looks like the kid was riding his bike in a wooded trail when a dead tree fell on top of him.
When Davis had not returned home by 10 p.m. Monday night, his father contacted police. A search for the teen proved unsuccessful until the following day when Davis’ father found his son in some woods near his home. The boy had apparently been riding his bike when an old, dead tree fell on him and killed him. Police say that there were several storms active Monday that may have been a factor in Davis’ death. No foul play is suspected.
The Director of Montgomery County Department of Parks said in a statement, “We are deeply saddened by last night’s tragic accident in Rock Creek Park Stream Valley #2 claiming the life of a young boy riding his bicycle in the park.…
LEAVENWORTH, KS — It’s like FINAL DESTINATION day today. First we get a chick killed in a freak towing accident and now a woman cleaning her yard is lucky to be alive after a freak accident with a tree branch.
Sara Warren was clearing a yard of tree limbs on Friday after severe storms made their way through the area. I still don’t understand exactly what happened next, even after reading a couple articles, but somehow Sarah was attacked by a stick.
“They were down to the last branch that they were clearing away. As they were clearing it away, Sara was back away from the tree quite a bit and another branch popped out of basically nowhere,” said Sara’s son-in-law Carl Johnson.
I have absolutely no idea what “branch popped out of basically nowhere” even means as it sounds like black magick, but the conjured branch made its way through Sarah’s nose, through her eye socket, into her sinus cavity and then touched her brain.
Surprisingly, Sarah is expected to make a full recovery.…
