Two Girls Killed After Tara Lewman Ignores Train Track Warning SignalsBATAVIA, IA – Two children were killed on Monday after their mother, Tara Lewman, drove her minivan around lowered track arms and was struck by a train.

Verdae Blom, who works for Vision Ag, which is located by the tracks where the accident occurred, said he heard a loud noise around 4 p.m. Monday, and then saw a large plume of dust.

“It was a mess,” said Blom, describing the aftermath as being like nothing he’d ever seen before. When he went to the crossing to get a better look, he saw that two young children had been
thrown from a Dodge Caravan, which landed nose-down in a ditch.

“It was a tangled-up mess,” said Blom. “The whole back of it, on the passenger side from the front seat, the whole thing was wiped out. It was terrible.”

According to Iowa State Patrol’s initial crash report, Tara Lewman, the childrens’ mother, allegedly drove around a lowered railroad crossing gate at around 4 p.m. when her vehicle was hit by a westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train.…

Visual Arts Teacher Killed While Taking Pictures Of An Approaching TrainSACRAMENTO, CA — A popular visual arts teacher at St Francis High School was killed while taking pictures of an oncoming train.

Police said 52-year-old Kathy Carlisle was on train tracks near the campus of St Francis, taking pictures of an approaching train, when she was struck from behind by a train travelling in the opposite direction. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The president of St. Francis said the school canceled classes on Monday and organized a memorial service for Carlisle. They’re also providing grief counselors and allowing students to set up a memorial and posting a bulletin board for students who want to share memories or express their grief.

“We’re taking this opportunity to really reflect on the tremendous gift that she was to our community,” said Reid Brown. “She was so skilled and passionate in her work, and really had a gift. The girls understood that she had a gift to share with them.”

Carlisle, a married mother of three, taught 600 students at the all girl Catholic school since 2008.…

Four Veterans Killed When Train Hits Parade Float Carrying Wounded ServicemenMidland, TX – A town in Texas is mourning the loss of four veterans during a parade accident in which a train struck a Show of Support parade float.

Yesterday evening, the ninth annual Show of Support parade was taking 24 veterans and their spouses and girlfriends from the DoubleTree by Hilton to the Horseshoe in south Midland where the Hunt for Heroes banquet was to be held. Afterwards, the veterans were being treated to an all-expenses paid weekend hunting trip, while their spouses would be treated to a variety of activities in Midland.

The parade float transporting the veterans consisted of two separate flatbed tractor trailer trucks. Each were adorned with American flags with two dozen veterans and their spouses sitting in chairs set up on the back of each flatbed tractor-trailer.

At one point during their route to the Horeshoe, the trucks had to cross over a set of railroad track. Police were reportedly directing traffic as the first truck made it over the tracks but then had to stop. This left the second trailer stuck on the tracks with nowhere to go.…

Bullied Teen Jumped Into Path Of Train In Front Of ClassmatesSTATEN ISLAND, NY – I’m just getting back from vacation and behind on the news, so I’m just going to post some stories I found interesting, starting with the 15-year-old high school freshman who jumped in front of a train last week because she was tired of being bullied by members of her high school’s football team.

Felicia Garcia, a 15-year-old student at Tottenville High School, was being picked on because of rumors that she slept with multiple members of the football team at a party held after a game. After school administrators heard about the rumors, they met with Garcia and the 17-year-old boy who was singled out as the main instigator.

Reports are that the meeting ended with Garcia running out while shouting at the boy. Her friends say that Garcia normally didn’t let the bullying bother her. She’d already had a tough life with her parents dying when she was young and being bounced between foster homes after running away from her aunt’s home to be with an older man.…

Two Girls Killed By Amtrak Train While Investigating Ghost TrainPOPLAR BLUFF, MO – Two years ago we reported on someone in North Carolina who was killed by a train while investigating a ghost train. Now we have two teenage girls in Missouri who were also trying to catch a glimpse of a ghost train, and were killed when a very real train smashed into the vehicle they were sitting in.

“They were playing a stupid game called ‘Ghost Train,’ and the object is to get scared, kind of like telling stories on Halloween,” Butler County Coroner Jim Akers said. “The game was to park on the tracks, let the windows fog up inside and let your mind play tricks on you.”

As Aikers stated, and as detailed in a post at strangeusa.com, the game consists of stopping your vehicle on a particular stretch of tracks on Wilcox Road and turning it off. As you sit there with the rolled up windows becoming increasingly foggy, legend says you may see the lights of a train that crashed in the 1900s.…

Train Passes Over Drunk Man Passed Out On TracksElko, B.C. – An intoxicated man in his 20s is very lucky to be alive after passing out on a railway near Elko, British Columbia, and then being run over by a train.

It was a long weekend here in Canada and this guy was doing what we Canadians do best, drink beer and camp out. The Alberta resident had apparently wandered to the tracks after imbibing heavily. The man’s choice in bedding, however, was ill-advised to say the least.

A Canadian Pacific Railway engineer noticed the man laying between the rails ahead of the train, sounded the whistle, and attempted to stop. But by the time the heavily loaded train was finally came to rest, the locomotive and 26 cars had already passed over the man laying on the tracks.

Expecting to find a gory mess, the CP Rail engineers investigated and got an even bigger shock when they found the man still intact — and still sleeping. After one of the engineers grabbed the man’s arm, he woke up.

Still intoxicated and a bit confused, the man got to his feet, grabbed his beer, and then just walked away, according to RCMP Sgt.…

Pit Bull Hit By Train After Dragging Owner Off The TracksShirley, Mass. – Someone emailed us this story about a pit bull named Lily that was hit by a train after dragging an unconscious woman off some railroad tracks. They asked that we post about it to show not all pit bulls are murderous baby rapers.

So here goes.

A pit bull’s attempts to push a woman in front of a moving train were unsuccessful and the dog ended up getting hit by the train instead.

According to one website owner, the dog probably crept up behind the woman as she walked along the tracks in an attempt to push her into the path of an oncoming train.

“Blood lust must have clouded the pit bull’s calculations, causing the pushed woman to fall away from the tracks and was knocked unconscious,” said the man who tracks pit bull incidents in hopes of thwarting their attempts to take over the world in the name of Satan. ”The dog was probably so enraged at its failure to remove another human from the planet, that it was unable to get out of the train’s path in time and was struck.”

Because of powers only bestowed upon the Devil’s minions, the pit bull only suffered a  fractured pelvis and a leg that will have to be amputated.…

Woman Hit By Teens Flying Body Parts Sues Teens Family Chicago, IL - During a rainstorm in 2008, Hiroyuki Joho, 18, (pictured) was trying to catch a train. While hurrying towards the platform with an umbrella shielding him from the rain, he made the literally fatal mistake of stepping into the path of an oncoming Amtrak express train.

The teen’s mother Jeung-Hee Park, had reportedly left Joho, a high school student, at the station that morning. It is believed that he thought that the approaching train was his local train and that he expected it to slow down. Joho crossed over the tracks using the pedestrian crossing which put him in the path of the train.

Joho’s train, in fact, had been delayed by the bad weather and overtaken by the Amtrak express. That train, traveling at close to 70mph, did not slow down. Joho was reportedly ‘shredded’ on impact.

Gayane Zokhrabov, 58, a commuter waiting on the platform was hit by a ‘sizeable portion of Joho’s body.’ The impact – which occured after a portion of Joho’s torso had traveled almost 100 feet through the air – was reported to have knocked her to the ground, breaking her leg and wrist and injuring her shoulder.…

Mother Killed Pushing Daughter Out Train’s Path

October 11, 2011 at 8:13 am by

Mother Killed Pushing Daughter Out Trains PathRiverside, California – The news is reporting on a woman who sacrificed her life in order to save the life of her child who was in the path of an oncoming Metrolink train.

Susan Dibene, 33, was pushing her 2-year-old daughter in a stroller on Saturday when she approached some railroad tracks whose safety arms had already began to lower. Dibene made the ill-fated decision to save 5 minutes and crossed the tracks with her daughter anyway.

The conductor of the train stated he blew the train’s horn and tried to brake but could only watch Dibene wrestle the stroller across the tracks.

The first time the stroller got stuck Dibene was able to successfully free it, only to have it get stuck a second time. Once again, Dibene was able to free the stroller and pushed it off the tracks and out of the train’s path.

Unfortunately, Dibene wasn’t able to do the same for herself and was struck by the train. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

While some, including Dibene’s mother, are calling this woman a hero for saving her daughter’s life, the girl should have never been in danger to begin with. I don’t mean to talk ill of Dibene, as she’s already paid the ultimate price for her decision, but why would she risk her and her kid’s life like that in the first place? It’s a friggin’ train.…

Los Angeles, CA – Mary and Betty Sugiyama, both in their 80s, had planned to spend Sunday doing what they love most — shopping. They had planned to pick up items at Walmart and Nordstrom Rack in Long Beach  and didn’t want to miss their train that had just arrived into the Little Tokyo station.  As they were rushing to board the train, the sisters noticed a woman sitting alone on a bench near the tracks. As they went passed her, she suddenly jumped up and shouted something before pushing Betty off the platform and onto the tracks. Mary said she heard her sister’s skull crack and then watched as the woman, dressed in all black, sit back down without uttering a word. Betty would be rushed to the hospital, but died from her injuries on Sunday night. When police arrived at the scene, they found Jackkqueline Pogue, 44, still on the platform. She was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder. As I type this out there is still no motive in the attack, but I am guessing Pogue ain’t right in the head.…

Woman Loses Arm Dancing In Front Of Train

July 29, 2010 at 9:15 am by

MELBOURNE, Fla. - More news involving someone getting a bit too close to a train. Fortunately this person survived, though they are a bit lighter. Witnesses say a 27-year-old woman was dancing on some train tracks before her arm was ripped off by an oncoming train. Lucky for her an unidentified policeman who arrived on the scene applied a tourniquet to her stump as she laid conscious and bleeding to death, probably saving her life. She was rushed to the hospital where she was listed in critical condition. Police say she and another man, possibly her boyfriend, where walking near the train crossing at around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday when they got into an argument. The woman then jumped on the tracks, but was unable to get clear of the train when she tried to jump back off of them.…

Man Killed Trying To Slap A Moving Train

July 22, 2010 at 2:09 pm by

SUMMERVILLE, SC - Justin Helton was at  the Ice House Bar & Grill celebrating his 23rd birthday but got upset after getting into a few arguments with his ex and other patrons. The highly intoxicated Helton left the bar with his ex-girlfriend in tow, telling everyone he was going to slap a train that was passing nearby. But as Helton drunkenly stuck his hand out, he learned why it is not generally a good idea to slap a moving train as he was sucked into it. Helton suffered multiple fractures and massive blunt force trauma and like the majority of people who get hit by a moving train, was pronounced dead at the scene. The conductor was totally unaware anything had happened and was stopped further down the tracks. His ex stated that she witnessed the accident and that Helton did not appear to jump in front of the train, he was just really drunk.…

NORWOOD, Pa – Who’d have thought that in one week, we would have FIVE teenaged girls die by train. Three girls died when they were unable to outrun a train on a trestle in Florida. But the deaths of Gina Gentile, 16, and Vanessa Dorwart, 15, may not have been an accident at all. Police say their deaths were the result of a suicide pact made between them and some other girls. They were all supposed to meet at the Norwood train station Thursday morning and end their lives. How many girls were a part of this pact is not known, but what is known is that Gentile, Dorwart and Kelly Cashwell left school that morning and were seen arguing on the train platform, one of them talking on a cell phone moments before their deaths. At around 10:30 a.m., a train traveling from Boston to Washington, D.C. hit the two 10th-graders killing them both as they stood on the tracks. Both of their cell phones were found on the scene intact and are currently in the hands of forensics.…

Melbourne, Florida - Four teenagers made the mistake of taking a shortcut to the beach Saturday evening that left three of them dead. The shortcut was a train trestle that spanned 650 ft across Crane Creek in Melbourne. One boy made it to the other side safely, but his girlfriend and two other teenage girls were still on the track taking pictures when the southbound train showed up. The boy, as well as other onlookers, began shouting at the girls to run or jump. The girls ran, but never jumped, and the train struck all three, killing them. “When they heard the train coming, they started running toward the other side,” Charlie Foust said. “It’s sad. They were just kids. They probably got scared and didn’t know what to do.” Confirmed dead are 14-year-old Ciara Malia Lemn and 15-year-old Jennifer Reichert. One witness described hearing the train hitting its emergency brakes then after stopping, hearing the sound of a girl crying and screaming. A lot of people are wondering why the girls just didn’t jump in the water as they were only 20-ft above the slow moving creek.…

Girl Is Crushed To Death After Slipping Under Train

November 25, 2009 at 9:07 am by

UK – We’ve all seen it before in movies or television. The loved one running alongside a departing train blowing kisses or waving at someone inside staring back at them through a window. How nice. But in the case of 16-year-old Megan Moore, this innocent act turned horrific. She had gotten off the train, and as it was leaving, she began running beside it tapping on the window waving goodbye to her friends. She was wearing high-heels and slipped into the gap between the train and the platform. The train stopped immediately, but it was too late. Her friends have set up a memorial Facebook Page for her.…

Four Die After Driver Attempts To Beat Amtrak Train

November 18, 2009 at 8:52 am by

Hardeeville, SC – A car attempted to get around the gate arms of a S.C. railroad track. Making a fatal miscalculation, the driver was plowed by an Amtrak train en route from Charleston, South Carolina, to Savannah. The car became wedged on to the front of the train and dragged the car for about a mile before stopping. Killed were Jason Scott, 33, Nancy Ratliff, 27, Melissa Thomas, 35, and Taylor Arnsdorf, 12 – no one on the train was injured. There is video of the crash, not yet released to media. People, don’t do this. Especially if you can actually see\hear the train. Even if you are by yourself and didn’t kill your passengers because of your stupidity, you still snarl traffic for the rest of us trying to go buy weed in a vehicle low on gas. Thanks. …

Train Kills Man Trying to Kill Woman with Train

Los Angeles – Talk about karma! Brandon Julius Funches, 21, was arguing with is 23-year-old girlfriend while stopped at a rail crossing on San Fernando Road. Witnesses state that at some point, Funches drove his Dodge Magnum around the two cars in front of him, around the crossing arm and parked directly on the tracks in an attempt to kill his girlfriend by letting the oncoming train hit the passenger sid of the car.

At the last minute before the Metrolink commuter train, traveling at 79mph, hit the car, Funches jumped out of the vehicle. The flying debris from the impact killed Funches as he attempted to run away, the girlfriend, while seriously injured, is expected to survive.

Authorities are saying that Funches was ejected from his vehicle, but witnesses say he was running from the vehicle just before impact. Witnesses are also saying that the “debris” that killed Funches was the car itself, although metal was sent flying as far as a block away and some even disabled a truck when it sliced through the engine.…
