UNION, NJ — A 4-year-old boy was found starving inside an apartment with the body of his mother, who had been dead for about five days.
On Tuesday morning, a maintenance worker called police to report a foul odor coming from an apartment whose door was ajar but locked with a chain. When police arrived and entered the apartment, they found the emaciated 4-year-old inside with his mother, who was dead in her bedroom.
The boy told police he tried to heal his mother by rubbing lotion on her. He also told them he was unable to unlock the front door and had not eaten because he was unable to open the refrigerator.
“He made a statement to the officer that ‘There’s plenty of food in the refrigerator, but I couldn’t open the door,’” said Police Director Daniel Zieser. “So that’s kind of sad that nobody checked on him, no family members. It’s sad, very sad.”
Neighbors said they never heard any cries for help from the apartment, and police said there are no records of any 911 calls being made from the apartment.…

Las Cruces, NM — A 16-month-old girl was fatally attacked by a family pit bull Tuesday. Witnesses said the girl’s grandmother was accidentally shot by a neighbor trying to help the toddler. The witness accounts alleviated initial fears that a pit bull armed with a pistol and an opposable thumb was on the loose in New Mexico.
Around 11:30 a.m., Police were called by a neighbor reporting the girl’s attack and the grandmother, 52, crying for help. The 2-year-old pit bull reportedly attacked the girl in the backyard of her grandparents’ home. The grandmother was also attacked trying to help the girl.
The 69-year-old neighbor who called 911 then retrieved a .45-caliber handgun and went to help the grandmother and granddaughter. Police said the neighbor fired several shots at the dog, and one of them accidentally hit the grandmother’s leg.
“A lot of [the injuries were] to the top of her head and the side of her face,” neighbor Chris Wallard – who performed CPR – said. “I was really scared.…

HILLSBORO, Oreg. — A toddler in Oregon drowned after he fell into the family’s running washing machine.
According to the reports, the 21-month-old Oliver Hebb fell into the machine after he climbed on top of it while his mother, Tiffany Hebb, was in another room reading a magazine. Sadly, the machine was in a wash cycle.
Oliver’s mother found him partially submerged in the machine within minutes and pulled him out, but he wasn’t breathing. Her screams alerted neighbors who performed CPR on the boy. They were able to get Oliver breathing again but he never regained consciousness.
The family removed Oliver from life support on Sunday after it was determined that he was brain-dead. An autopsy report would reveal Oliver Hebb died of oxygen deprivation to his brain as a result of drowning and suffered physical trauma from the washer’s agitator.
Most washer’s are equipped with a safety mechanism that stops all mechanical functions if the lid is opened. That doesn’t always keep the machine from filling with water, or in this case, the agitator from working.…

Boston, MA – Dr. Colette Vieau and her family, a husband and two young daughters, had boarded a JetBlue flight back to Boston from the luxurious island of Turks and Caicos when they were told to get off. The reason? Their two-year-old, Natalie, was throwing a fit and refused to be seated.
In a courageous show of force, the girl’s parents finally managed to wrangle the beast and restrain her with a seat belt, holding her in place. Dr. Vieau, who states her family were never belligerent, angry or screaming, then said to a flight attendant, “We have them seated. Can we go now?”
It was at that point that the flight attendant informed them the pilot had already decided, for the safety of all customers and crewmembers on board, that the family be removed from the plane.
JetBlue released a statement explaining the pilot came to this decision because the family “did not comply with crewmember instructions for a prolonged time period.”
There were no more flights that night, and the family reports that they spent $2,000 for a hotel and new flights. I reckon they could have obtained a toddler-sized muzzle and straitjacket for less than half that.…

Hermitage, Mo. - Marlin Dallas Lane, 29, was caring for an 18-month-old girl in his home between August 15 to September 30, 2009 while her mother – with whom Lane had another child – was working. Any mistreatment of the toddler during that time went undetected, but only weeks later the toddler would be diagnosed with genital warts on both her vagina and anus. According to the Webster County Health Department, Lane had received the same diagnosis in 2007.
As you might expect, at that time, the child was unable to verbalize any account of sexual contact to which she may have been subjected. It wouldn’t be until February 2011 that – according to investigators – the victim was able to begin to communicate the details of a sexual assault to a children’s services employee.
During a follow-up interview with detectives, the child was able to further verbalize the abuse and use an anatomically correct drawing to show detectives what “Daddy Dallas” had done to her. For those inclined, you can view the charging documents as a Word document here.…

LaPorte, IN — Tonya Torres, 20, is in custody after orchestrating a rooftop playdate for her two toddlers and a dog. It did not go so smoothly.
On November 25, police reported that a witness saw a 2-year-old girl, her 3-year-old brother and a dog on the roof of a house in town. The witness then saw the girl fall from the roof and land on concrete steps below. A man reportedly rushed to the child’s aid, scooping her up. According to court documents, Torres came out on the roof and, after seeing that the girl had fallen to the ground, asked the man holding her to ‘throw her back up.’
Oddly, the man refused – reportedly necessitating that Torres hump her ass down the stairs to retrieve the girl. The girl was reportedly taken to the hospital where she, thankfully, was found to have no injuries.
The lack of injuries may seem miraculous. Perhaps a bit of background is in order…
Police were called early last year when, according to court documents, the boy showed up at the hospital having ingested an oxycodone pill.…

Toledo, OH - Here’s one of those stories that just messes with your brain a bit. Police in Lucas County have arrested a 13-year-old accusing him of raping a 3-year-old boy.
They are not releasing many details surrounding the crime aside from charging him with two counts of rape for two separate incidents.
Further reports state the boy will not have to register as a sex offender because of his age, and that he’ll likely go into the court’s sex offender treatment program. “It’s about an 18-month curriculum that they have that juveniles have to go through and when they are done with that SOT program, they’re usually still on probation,” says Prosecutor Olender.

Memphis TN – A woman has been arrested and charged with aggrivated child abuse after after she called 911 to report injuries to a 3 year old after claiming he fell after a bathroom accident. At the hospital, doctors took notice of injuries, including bruises over most of his body and face. The boy was also suffering from cuts on his legs, a fractured right thigh, and a cigarette burn on his shoulder. Upon questioning, however, Daniella Ramirez confessed to abusing the child. According to an Affidavit, Ramirez told police she was angry when he had a bowel movement after she gave him a bath. Ramirez told investigators she hit the boy, and that he was unable to brace himself because of handicaps that are not described in the affidavit. Monday, Ramirez remained in jail on $100,000 bond, charged with aggravated child abuse and neglect. Ramirez is scheduled to appear again in court on November 4th. She does not have a criminal record. The affidavit does not explain the relationship between Ramirez and the boy.…

MEDINA, Ohio — A teenage babysitter lost track of two toddlers on Thursday and now one is dead and her sister is fighting for her life. Police say 2-year-old Justina McCormick and 3-year-old Mary were being cared for by their grandfather, a cousin and a friend when the sisters slipped outside and climbed into a car parked in the driveway of their neighbor up the street. It was 40 minutes before anyone realized the two children were missing but once they did, the grandfather called 911 after not being able to locate them. The neighbor noticed her car door was open and found the two girls unconscious inside. The car had been parked in direct sunlight with the windows closed, temperatures outside had reached the 80s. Justina would die on the way to the hospital, Mary is still listed in critical condition. Police have sated they believe that the girls got into the car on their own accord and do not believe this is anything more than a tragic accident. Even so, Chief Deputy Kenneth Baca says authorities have yet to decide whether to pursue charges.…

Kenosha, WI- On Saturday, officers in Wisconsin were alarmed to discover what they are calling one of the most disturbing abuse cases they had ever encountered. Inside a residence in Kenosha, police found a 2 1/2 year old child strapped in a car seat in a small, dark room. His face was covered, his diaper loaded, and his hair infested with lice. But that was not the worst of it. In the dining room of the home, a 38-year old woman was found lying on the floor covered in urine and feces with her left ankle was chained to a weight bench. The frail woman appeared to weigh no more than 70 pounds and, after the chain was cut, she could not straighten her legs, stand or walk. What kind of monsters would do something so cruel and callous?
