Minneapolis, MN — Police have identified a woman who they say intentionally laid down on Interstate 94 Thursday morning and died after being hit by multiple cars.
According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, 38-year-old Melissa Lewis walked onto eastbound I-94 at about 6:40 Thursday morning and stood there for a moment before lying down. Within minutes, she was roadkill.
Dispatchers with the state patrol received several 911 calls from commuters concerned about the woman just moments before she was hit. And though a couple of troopers and an ambulance had been dispatched, it was apparently too late.
Minnesota State Patrol Lt. Chris Edstrom said the woman’s intention was clear.
“Well, the people that hit her, the dispatchers that watched it…I mean, there’s a lot of additional victims in this and it’s too bad that it happened and it’s too bad that somebody got to that point.”
A couple of the drivers who hit the woman apparently left the scene, but it is quite possible that they had no idea they had actually ran over a human being on their morning commute. Authorities are searching for two drivers they believe were involved in the incident.…

CHADBOURN, N.C. — Two days after we reported on a 10-year-old girl in Illinois hanging herself in her bedroom because of bullying, we are now reporting on a 10-year-old girl in North Carolina who hanged herself as well.
The mother of 10-year-old Jasmine McClain found her dead in her bedroom Monday night where she had hanged herself from a metal rack. Chadbourn Police Chief Steven Shaw said it was an obvious suicide and was about to close the case when he started reading posts on Facebook about Jasmine.
“Children started coming forward and making accusations that she was bullied in school,” Shaw said. Immediately, news reports were stating that the little girl had killed herself because of bullying. However, after checking into these comments, police say they have not found any solid evidence that this was the case.
“People are struggling to make it a bullying story,” Shaw said. “We haven’t made it that, yet. What we’ve found is the people who have posted the comments are telling us that this is what a friend said. We haven’t found any evidence of bullying yet.…
Plainville, Connecticut – According to officials, a 17-year-old Plainville High School student hanged himself on school grounds Tuesday morning.
Police say just before 6:30 a.m., someone walking their dog on the school’s track found the teen hanging under the bleachers. The Office of the Chief State Medical Examiner confirmed the boy’s death was a suicide after conducting an autopsy that afternoon.
No official word on what drove this young man to hang himself but someone claiming to be a relative of the boy, and I do stress claiming, said that “Christopher” was picked on constantly for being odd and his girlfriend had just recently broken up with him.
The school superintendent told reporters that at this point, with the information they have now, bullying didn’t have anything to do with this. But whatever the reason — depression, heartbreak, bullying, all of the above — it’s always a shame when young people go this route.…

Illinois – Last Friday, 10-year-old Ashlynn Conner was found dead inside her closet where she had hanged herself with a scarf. Her family says bullying is to blame.
Her mother told reporters that Ashlynn, an honor roll student at Ridgefarm Elementary, had been bullied relentlessly at school and by kids in the neighborhood. Nothing physical, just emotional bullying consisting mostly of name calling.
“Ashlynn’s ugly, look Ashlynn’s ugly. She’s fat. They’d call her a slut,” her mother said.
Last Thursday Ashlynn told her mother she’d been picked on all day at school by three girls and asked if she could be home-schooled. Her mother told her ‘no’ and that she would speak to the principal about it on Monday. The next day, while most kids were enjoying a day off for Veteran’s Day, Ashlynn went inside her hanging in her closet.
Her older sister found her after the family realized they had not seen or heard from Ashlynn since her mother had overheard her talking with a classmate on the phone a half-hour before, detailing the girls at school picking on her and the fact that her mother would not let her be home-schooled.…

Houston, TX – Police say that an 18-year-old girl made 144 tweets within six hours, the final one made moments before killing herself.
Instead of going to school on Tuesday, Ashley Billasano took to her Twitter page and made a series of tweets to her 500 followers detailing her feelings of despair, being a victim of sexual abuse and injustice. Her last tweet was made at 2:97 p.m. and read: “Take two. I hope I get this right.”
She did.
Police are not releasing too many details on exactly how she committed suicide for fear of copycats, but they say Billasano suffocated herself using a method she learned on the Internet.
The majority of her tweets that day detailed claims of sexual abuse and being forced into prostitution at a young age. Some of this is backed up by her mother and the fact that her stepfather, Allan Leskinen, is currently finishing up an 11-year-stint in prison after being convicted of sexually abusing Billasano when she was only 7-years-old.
Years later, at 14-years-old, she claims she was sexually abused by another family member as well as other adults.…

ZANESVILLE, Ohio - Ohio police were forced to hunt grizzly bears, lions and tigers after some whack job purposely released over 50 exotic animals he kept on his property before committing suicide.
Terry Thompson, 62, operated the Muskingum County Animal Farm, a 40-acre farm that housed about 50 big-game animals, including Bengal tigers, lions, cheetahs, wolves, giraffes, camels and grizzly bears. Officials have been on the property many times in the past investigating complaints of animals running loose or being abused.
“We’ve handled numerous complaints here, we’ve done numerous inspections here. So this has been a huge problem for us for a number of years,” said Muskingum County Sheriff Matt Lutz.
But the animal farm, and Thompson, will no longer be a problem for anyone ever again after Thompson purposely released the animals and then killed himself on Tuesday. No official reason on why he did this, but he’d just gotten out of prison last month after serving a year on weapons charges and his wife left him. That would explain the suicide.…

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. — Stories regarding someone killing their family before killing themselves often have people remarking that they wish the person would’ve done things in reverse order. That seems to have been the case for a man in California, who intentionally drove off a cliff after threatening to kill his wife and kids.
Police say a husband and wife got into a fight Sunday that had the woman leaving the home. When she returned the following morning, her husband was drunk and threatening to kill her, their kids and even his fellow employees. Being one of the smarter women we have reported on, she left the house again and used the phone at a nearby gas station to call police.
While on the phone with police, her husband drove by her slowly while yelling at her, telling the police who had showed up they’d better follow him into the canyon. Police began following the man as he drove down the highway at 70 mph, but pulled back at a safe speed after learning the driver had called police headquarters informing them he was planning on driving off a cliff.…

Williston, VT — A man arrested Saturday on suspicion of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child shot and killed himself Sunday outside the Vermont State Police barracks.
According to police, a friend of 43-year-old Michael Weisler called 911 Sunday afternoon to report Weisler had threatened to commit suicide and was on his way to the barracks. Just moments later, as troopers stood by, Weisler entered the parking lot, exited his vehicle and shouted, “I’m the one you’re looking for.” He then pulled out a handgun and shot himself dead before the officers could intervene. Case closed.
The alleged molestation of the girl, which police say occurred back in ’08, was reported to Vermont State Police on Friday. An investigation by state police and the Department of Children and Families ultimately led to Weisler’s arrest on Saturday. He posted $10,000 bail Sunday morning and was to appear in Vermont Superior Court sometime today.
Police are investigating the incident and trying to piece together Weisler’s final hours, Police Lt. Detective Brian Miller said.…

GULFPORT, MS – I’ve got two stories this morning involving a mentally disturbed elderly man shooting innocent people. The first out of Mississippi where a 70-year-old man killed a mother and her disabled son before killing himself.
It all happened on Monday when a 5-year-old boy ran from his home and told neighbors a bad man was hurting his mommy. Two women went with the boy back to his home and pushed open the door. Inside they found Paul Buckman covered in blood holding a gun to the head of 45-year old Karen Denise Ferguson.
Buckman turned the gun on the two women as Ferguson screamed at them to please save her baby. The women scooped up the boy and got the hell out of there. Police arrived shortly after and would find both Karen Ferguson and her 21-year-old disabled son, Trevor Cole Ferguson, dead from gunshot wounds.
Buckman was quickly identified by someone who recognized him as he left the home. When police entered Buckman’s home a couple hours later, they would find him in the bathtub dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.…

Lawrence, NY - A man has been charged with attempted murder after he and his 2 year-old daughter were found in his car, sick from being poisoned by chemicals.
Ammonium chloride, as it turns out, isn’t actually all that poisonous. Despite this, police believe 45-year-old Khemchan Sulaiman mixed the chemical with baby formula and gave his daughter the concoction in a bottle. The chemical was also found on the girl, along with a powder believed to be a household pesticide. Allegedly both Sulaiman and his daughter ingested the chemical.
The pair were found semi-conscious in Sulaiman’s car Monday morning, parked behind a block of stores, after someone heard the man honking the car’s horn and yelling for help. Police believe this to be an attempted murder-suicide and that it may have stemmed from some bad blood between Sulaiman and his ex-wife, who is also the girl’s mother. Both were taken to the hospital in critical condition, but as of Tuesday the girl is listed as stable and Sulaiman is expected to make it to court, where he could get up to 25 years.…

Carterville, IL – On the same day members of an Illinois community were mourning the loss of one of their teachers, another hanged herself in her own classroom.
A co-worker found 45-year-old Linda Elaine Walker in her kindergarten classroom late Monday afternoon where she had hanged herself. CPR was performed on Walker before emergency crews arrived but she would be pronounced dead at the hospital.
Walker, a teacher for 17 years, was found hanging in her classroom on the same day funeral services were held for another longtime Carterville kindergarten teacher, 72-year-old Lynn Byrnes, who died last week after complications from surgery.
“These things are so awful. Sometimes we don’t know the best thing to do. Fortunately, our kids, staff and community is a tight, resilient group,” Carterville school district Superintendent Robert Prusator said. “This is a day where everyone digs down and does a lot of work.”
As many as 30 counselors were available at area schools to help the community cope with the losses.…

Miami, FL — Here’s a sad one. A 911 call has been released regarding a 5-year-old girl who witnessed her stepfather kill her mother, her grandmother, and then himself.
On Sunday, Marcus Trotman shot and killed his wife, 30-year-old Danielle Lorenzo, and his mother-in-law, 56-year-old Linda Scudera, before turning the gun on himself. The asshole did this inside their home in front of Danielle’s 5-year-old daughter, Angelique.
The little girl ran next door to Allison, a woman who lived in an adjoining town home, who called 911. The uncut recording (listen to it here) has been released and I gotta admit that listening to Angelique asking Allison if she could live with her since her family was dead tugged at the heart strings a bit — and I don’t even have one.
A judge is now deciding where to place the girl who is currently in the care of a paternal grandfather. On Tuesday a man attended a court hearing claiming to be the girl’s father and consented to a DNA test.…

CONCORD, N.C. – Some patrons inside a North Carolina Lowe’s were treated to a gruesome spectacle yesterday afternoon when a man shot his wife, a Lowe’s employee, then turned the gun on himself.
Witnesses state 31-year-old Por Ye Lor came into the store and got into an argument with his wife, 25-year-old Vivian Xiong, who worked as a cashier.
Lor eventually pulled out a gun and shot Xiong to death before using it to commit suicide.
Police say there were dozens of employees and customers inside the store at the time, but that no one else was injured.
Lor’s brother told reporters he last talked to his brother earlier that day and nothing seemed wrong. He also said both his brother and sister-in-law were from Laos and had three children.
Grief counselors are expected to be at the store today for any employees who need help dealing with what happened to Xiong, a six-year employee of the store.

Yorktown, VA — An unidentified 46-year-old man is quite dead after decapitating himself following a domestic dispute with his ex-wife and a brief standoff with police.
Shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday, deputies arrived at the ex-wife’s home in response to a report of a domestic dispute. The man, however, had already vacated the premises.
As one officer was taking a statement from the woman, another officer in the area noticed a utility trailer in flames. When firefighters arrived to douse the flames, they found the man in question sitting inside the Ford Explorer that had been towing the trailer. Police say he ignored repeated commands to exit the vehicle.
At some point during the standoff, firefighters noticed the man had a cable attached to his neck…the other end was attached to a nearby tree. As officers approached to speak to the man, he hit the gas. He was pulled from the vehicle and decapitated, putting an abrupt end to any future arguments with the ex.
York-Poquoson Sheriff Danny Diggs said the man and his ex had apparently been arguing about his living arrangements.…

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Back in April we reported on LaShanda Armstrong, the 25-year-old mother who killed herself and three of her children when she intentionally drove her minivan off a boat ramp and into the Hudson River.
Now the father of those three kids, 26-year-old Jean Pierre, is suing for $80 million.
Armstrong packed up her four kids into a minivan and then drove into the 45-degree water of the Hudson after getting into an argument with Pierre. She would drown along with Landon Pierre, 5; Lance Pierre, 2; and 11-month-old Laianna Pierre.
“If I’m going to die, you’re going to die with me,” Armstrong told the children before the vehicle went into the water.
But Armstrong’s 10-year-old son, Lashaun, decided this sucked and crawled out the window as the van was sinking. As he did, Armstrong grabbed his leg. “I made a mistake,” she told him before letting him go.
Armstrong’s decision to kill herself and her children came minutes after witnesses described Pierre cursing and banging on Armstrong’s apartment for 30 minutes.…

Philadelphia, PA – A Chestnut Hill College professor committed suicide Wednesday afternoon by jumping off a second-story balcony inside the school.
On Wednesday afternoon, 71-year-old Rudolf Alexandrov was to teach Mathematics for Business as he did every Monday and Wednesday. But instead of walking into his classroom inside St. Joseph’s Hall, he stepped over the hall’s second-floor railing overlooking the veranda.
Staff and security were alerted when he was seen standing inside the railing and tried to talk him out of doing anything drastic, but he wouldn’t respond to them. He then killed himself by diving headfirst off the balcony, falling approximately 30-feet to the marble floor below.
Alexandrov had a history of depression and had talked about harming himself before. The previous Friday his wife, who also teaches at the college, filed a missing person report on he husband who was found later walking around the neighborhood.
The college released a statement on its website that attempted to clarify some earlier, incorrect reports.
“The College continues to mourn the loss of Rudolf Alexandrov, an adjunct professor of mathematics, who committed suicide inside the Rotunda on Wednesday, August 3rd,” the statement read.…

Deerfield Township, Ohio - As 17-year-old Amanda Borsos stood outside of Four Paws Pet Care where she worked, her ex-boyfriend, 18-year-old Troy Penn, leveled a shotgun at her chest and pulled the trigger.
Her co-workers ran out to find Amanda laying wounded in the grass and called 911. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly, did not make it. It was her 17th birthday.
Shortly after the shooting, Penn was seen by a neighbor running through yards with a shotgun. He also called his mother and father, informing them both of what he had done before barricading himself in the family’s home.
When police arrived at Penn’s home, they tried to communicate with Troy through his two siblings who were also inside with him. But before contact could be made, Penn used a hanger to pull the shotgun’s trigger, shooting himself in the chest, killing him.
The 911 transcript notes that Penn also had the shotgun, “rigged to the curtains so if the curtain moved, the gun will fire.”
Friends say all of this came as a surprise as the teens had only been dating a few months, and just broke up a week ago.…

MARION, Ohio — Here’s an interesting lawsuit out of Ohio. Two men who saved a woman from a burning vehicle back in 2009 are now suing her for the injuries they suffered while rescuing her.
David Kelley and Mark Kinkaid where driving down Rt. 23 when they saw Theresa Tanner’s Hummer down an embankment. The vehicle was on fire and Tanner was trapped inside screaming for help.
Kinkaid used a tire iron to bust out a window and both men endured heavy smoke and heat as they searched inside the burning vehicle for any other occupants. Kelly was able to get Tanner out of the Hummer, but was so overcome by smoke that Kinkaid had to carry her up the embankment.
It was a very heroic move on both men’s part, one that was recognized by the State Highway Patrol who held a ceremony honoring the bravery of the two men.
Tanner would be admitted to the hospital in critical condition and remain hospitalized for several months while her rescuers suffered injuries of their own that were both physical as well as mental. Kelley said the smoke and fire damaged to his lungs were so severe that he can no longer carry a laundry basket upstairs in his home.…

Switzerland – “Are you home mum? I’m just about to drop in,” 47-year-old Konrad Schmidt allegedly said before he flew a twin engine plane through his mother’s bedroom window.
Schmidt was battling depression and had been involved in a long-running feud with his mother ever since she divorced his father who would later die of cancer.
“Schmidt felt very bitter and blamed his mother. He had also suffered depression and financial problems over the past few years,” said a police spokesperson.
On Saturday, neighbors reported seeing Schmidt flying over the houses a few times before he called his mother from the cockpit and then kamikazed into her home. Schmidt would die in the crash, crush the two story home and ignite a giant fireball.
But Schmidt couldn’t even do this right. Although he skillfully navigated a twin-engine plane through a bedroom window, his mother was physically unharmed. She had been in the basement at the time of the crash.…
